Oct 31 2007, 10:02 PM
oh yea he does.
Elliot is facing two different worlds that he must keep an eye out on.
Between his job and his family. Well i guess we can say 3 different worlds..the last being olivia, since he already said that she and the job are two different things. Keeping the relationship he already has with her, and now getting back the relationship with his pregnant wife. Which is another issue he faces. This will be his fifth child with Kathy. Another reason why he should consider his role in his job. This job is a very scary and dangerous job, what would happen if he got killed on the job? How could he leave his family like that? and also Olivia, as we seen in "Fault". This man is very VERY busy and has too many problems with basically everyone. He tries soooo hard to please everyone he cares about. And in my opinon, i think he has been doing a good job on taking care of both his family and Olivia.

Elliot's disposition is not really a positive, but I do enjoy that Liv is the only person who can "handle" him.
Elliot does not need anger management courses, but I don't think he handles the SVU cases as well as he believes he does. He said that Dani could not handle it, but what makes Elliot so sure he can?
Anywhoo, I hope to see him rolling up his sleeves real soon...

HGFM, to continue our discussion of Elliot's age, I am going to assume that Elliot entered the military at 18 after he graduated from high school. Training in the Marine Corp takes about 8 to 10 weeks but Maureen was born before he entered the Marine Corp. He did say he was '18 and in the service' when he got his tattoo so Maureen had to have been born when Elliot was 17. The reason I think Elliot and Kathy are really close in age is because they had to have been both in the same grade. After all, Kathy graduated from high school the same time Elliot did. So...if Elliot was 17 when Maureen was born then that would make him 41 because the show says that Maureen is about 23 and so Kathy has to be 40 or 41. I am going to go with 40 for Kathy's age. But that would mean that Elliot and Kathy waited 6 years to have Kathleen because she is only 18 on the show. The twins are 13 or 14 so that would mean that they waited another 4 to 5 years to have the twins. Then 13 to 14 years later this new Stabler is born. I think I got the time line right but please correct me if I may be wrong.

The writers really made a big mess with Kathleen's age. From seasons 1-6, Kathleen was right on track- supposed to be about 2-3 years younger then Maureen but then in seasons 6-8 the writers have made Kathleen remain 17 years old.

Stabler is between the ages of 41 and 43. I say this because as I watched "Perfect", El told the mad scientist that he was in his late 30s. Late 30s are 37, 38, or 39. He made this statement in 2003. I'm guessing that he is approaching 44.

Yes, Elliot was 18 when he entered the Marines. But we know he didn't join until after Maureen was born. In Stolen he told the mother of the missing baby he worked the late shift while Kathy worked the day shift after his first child was born. That statement doesn't fit Elliot was already in the Marines. But it does make sense if he joined after Maureen was born when he realized he and Kathy couldn't afford to live on their own even with both of them working. He would still have been 18.
Next, we know Maureen was 15 in Pixies which was set in January 2001. But in Pique, set in May 2001, Elliot tells Jason Mayberry he has been married for 16 years. Then in Tangled, Olivia says Elliot has been married for 17 years. That episode ran in October 2001.The banners say April, but I am treating the banner as the goof. So Kathy and Elliot were married in the summer of 1984, after graduating from high school. That fits with Maureen being born in the beginning of 1985 which would fit with Neal Baer's statement that she would be 24 in season 9.
So Elliot graduated high school when he was 17 in 1984. We know he had 12 years of Catholic school. He must have been allowed to start at age 4 and turned 5 in October. That gives him a birth date of October 20, 1966.
We do not know that Kathy graduated from high school. It is entirely possible that she dropped out of school because she was pregnant. But if we assume she did graduate, it would have to be the same year as Elliot. Which puts them within a year of each other agewise unless Kathy skipped a grade.
Kathleen's age was given as 12 in Hysteria set in October 1999 and 17 in Blood set in January 2005. Which gives her a birth date in 1988 before October. Kathleen's age in Responsible was incorrectly given. It should have been 19. The question remains whether the writers will ignore their mistake or reset Kathleen's age.
The twins were born 2/21/93 according to Countdown.

However it's not unusual for someone to play a character younger/older then the actor. Ron Howard has played a teenager on Happy Days when really he was only in his 20s.

Kathy could've been in the same grade as Elliot and could be possible that she graduated alongside Elliot while pregnant before they got married over the summer.
As for her birthday, it could be right after Elliot's- October 21- December 31 if possible.

Perfect took place in the spring of 2003. Given the rest of the information we have on his age, he would have been 36 at that time. He may have been thinking ahead to his 37th birthday in October when he said he was in his late thirties.

As I mentioned in the other thread, schools in the 60s allowed children to turn 5 during the school year. Especially the girls. The cutoff date for doing so in the public school system I went to was in March.
Kathy couldn't have been pregnant for very long if she graduated with Elliot. She would have been made to leave as soon as anybody realized her condition.

I think he handles his cases very well. Dealing with the things he sees on the job, who wouldn't have anger issues. It is an evil, uncontrolable thing that happens to people and he does his best to help and to solve the cases and get the sickos off the streets. If he has to get in peoples faces to get the job done, so be it. Besides gives aus a chance to see his muscles, lol.
Olivia is the one who can handle him cause she has been there through the same cases. She has to know how he feels and can relate to his anger. Maybe that is why they get along so well on the job, the understand each other because their heads are in the same places. Olivia knows first hand how these crimes can hurt and Elliot has girls to protect. How could he help not seeing some of the victims as his own children. Very scary thought.
The new epi, coming out Tuesday looks good. Looks like Olivia gets hurt, bummer! Hope she doesn't leave again. Elliot would be lost without her I think.
PS Chris is JUST the right age, 40 something is cool, speaking from someone who is!

That isn't necessarilly true...I am the same age as Elliot (maybe a year or two younger) but we had pregnant teenagers in my school (and I went to Catholic school)...they didn't always have to leave the school...it may have been suggested, but in the 80's (when Elliot and Kathy were in school) this wasn't required...and the youngest person in my graduating class turned 17 in January of the year we graduated...which made him start kindergarden at age 4...

I graduated in 1984 also. I just turned 41. The cut off for kindegarden here has been Oct. 31st as long as I can remember. I can remember maybe a handful of girls who had babies when I was in high school, and only two chose not to graduate.
I have given up trying to figure how old everyone is, etc, because it is so darn confusing.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read the comment that Kathy would have been asked to leave high school if she were preggers in the '80's! Your school systems were more generous than the one I went to. My sister-in-law teaches there. They didn't let pregnant students stay in school until someone threatened to sue in the 90s.

I was born December 29th and so I had to wait a year. I was 5 when I went to Kindergarden. I ended up graduating high school at 19. My dad was in the military and so schools would accept some classes but not others. I had to re-due 3rd grade otherwise I would have graduated at the age of 18.

Different schools used different criteria for when to admit students. Age was only one thing they considered. But most schools now seem to require a minimum of age 5 for both boys and girls.
But back to Elliot. Grief is on now and Maureen is in Hudson in April 2003. So she should have graduated by now.

In Sophmore Jinx, Elliot grounded Maureen for sneaking in late without any explaination and Kathy didn't agree with the punishment and asked him what her parents would've done as Elliot punished Maureen and he said "then we wouldn't have had Maureen"; in Execution, Brodus asked both Haung and Elliot about their first times and Elliot said it was painful, for her as he thought he was doing something wrong and Brodus said that he knocked her up.
Kathy could have been in the early stages of her pregnancy when she graduated from high school and could have successfully hid her belly with loose clothing although Elliot would have probably have known as well about the pregnancy.

But season 6 isn't 2003;It's 2004. So that means that Maureen would have waited or taken a year off. It should have taken that long for them to have gotten back together. Elliot should have taken steps to talk to Kathy right after Ripped and continued until they worked things out. That would have been character development instead of what the writers did.
Elliot is not stuck between Kathy and Olivia. He loves Kathy and she is the woman in his life. Olivia is his partner and he works with her. Elliot tries to keep his personal life and professional life separate so there is no place for him to be stuck.
Look at Elliot in Blinded in the scene at the house with Casey. He's been away from work due to a serious injury. But that's the most relaxed we have seen him since Home in season 5. He is happy being at home with his wife and kids. It didn't sound like he missed work or Olivia.
