broke this week. If gas prices went lower, then i'd probably chip in. But right now, $5 gets me pizza on study sessions.

Why not make a very small sarifice and skip your slice for just one day? Think about what it could mean in the life a very poor child. Isn't that worth it?

Okay despite my potential differences in approaches to fundraising to those of Ms Sweden's I will say that I am glad she started this thread and put in my (hopefully welcome) 2 cents.

I know times are financially hard and it is difficult for some of you to part with even the minimum $5 Rene has requested. If however you want to show your support in another way for Room To Read, they are definitely looking for volunteers to help them out. It doesn't matter if you're a poor college student (been there done that), down on your luck economically speaking (I've also been there) or a senior citizen on a fixed income. If there's a Room To Read chapter in your area, chances are they need your help. The volunteers do everything from hosting fundraisers in their homes to envelope stuffing to manning the events to cooking food for their events...chances are you have a useful talent you can volunteer to them. It might be something as simple as someone you may know in your network of family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, local businesses, schools, places of worship that you can introduce to the people at Room To Read to help Room To Read with their mission.

Room To Read's 'showrunner', Erin Ganju is open to any ideas you have, to contributions of ideas, things money or perhaps that most precious of resources we all have, time. If you can give the organization any of these things and want an introduction to some of the people who work in it, I'd be happy to give you the email addresses of who I've met there. The organization has a lot of basically amateur but enthusiastic people who have a willingness to try things out and amazingly have a track record that is so impressive that companies like Google Scholastic and Goldman Sachs have partnered with them (and wish that their businesses were growing as fast as Room To Read is!). But they appreciate everything that is done for them, small, big or in between. So another way you can honor Rene, the folks at CI and the library project is to volunteer with Room To Read or put someone you know who can help them in contact with them.

Money is nice if you can spare it, time is also good too, as is sharing valuable contact information and facilitating introductions (perhaps you know someone that can take Room To Read to the next level).

If none of these options fit where you are now though, no hard feelings. It is my sincerest hope that you get to a place where you are secure enough that you can make a contribution of any kind as soon as you possibly can and that when you do you will consider favoring Room To Read with it first.
