I think that CI fans might be the most pathetic group of people on the face of the earth. The hardcore SVUers might have us beaten, but not by much. (I'm a fan of SVU, also, but I can't get enough CI).

Any thoughts on this matter?

I quickly jumped ship to CI.

In the Bobby ? game, I mentioned that I was pathetic....Here I am a happily married, 50 year old woman going completely gagootz over a fictional character.....and the man who portrays him.... But, as a Toby Keith fan, I am much more pathetic because I travel all over the country to see him many times a year....All this fan club/chat room stuff started when I turned 45, so I suppose I can say Robert O. Goren and Toby Keith Covel are my mid-life crises!!!

So my spanish teacher mentiond Salvador Dhali this morning. And I thought about sharing that one of his paintings is hanging at Rikers Island. I decided not to, as I would probably be the only person to understand this reference.

I love it! We used to play a game on The West Wing board....The thread was comprised of TWW references we used throughout the day...and how the person responded.

Maybe we should play that game here!

I don't think it's pathetic. Everyone has something they love. There are people who can spend hours a day talking about their favorite sports team and they're not considered pathetic at all. Now perhaps it's my dim view of pro-sports talking here, but I think being fans of a show that doesn't pander to the lowest common denomator shows that we're WAY less pathetic than those people.

We're all civil, nice and open minded people here. When we become insular, backbiting, and rigid is when we can be called pathetic. Until then, it's nice to share our interests and loves with each other.

ha, i might have agreed if Civil wasn't there, i've been known for being uncivil. Maybe a better word for pathetic is...obsessed? Takes away the negatives for the most part.

If by pathetic you mean a fan of CI.

Then guilty as charged.

That was mention in the epi. Art.
But found this info

Robert Goren: Did you know that there's an original Salvador Dali hanging at Rikers Island? He donated it in the '60s.

This painting was donated by Salvador Dali in 1965. In 2003 it was stolen by a group of prison officers, and later destroyed in a panic by the former superintendent who masterminded the theft

It's all relative...to some whacked out sports fan, I might seem geeky and pathetic, but just you wait till I introduce that dude to some of the people I used to meet at sci-fi conventions...the ones who insisted that they belonged to some alien race which was not a part of any known scifi genre, who spoke their own little language unknown to anyone but themselves, and came in costumes that usually involved a heck of a lot of tinfoil blink.gif

That there my friends is textbook pathetic (and scary!)

What's pathetic or obsessive to some is loyal and dedicated to others. I'd rather not get into pigeon-holing, labeling, or bad-mouthing anyone's hobbies, interests or fandom activities, as long as they don't go overboard and start stalking, lol! laugh.gif

Pathetic is the person who can't distinguish between character and actor, show and life.
The "L&O" series have the benefit of being educational in the tricky ways of crime, capture, denial and justice. I'm not pathetic for respecting great writing/acting/directing/editing.

LOL! Let me see if I have this right.....PLAOCIUSAMB members, instead of having a secret handshake, will have a ritual greeting as follows:

I have one client I serve who is almost as rabid a CI fan as I am. She's my last client on Wednesdays, and I'm dead tired and muscle-sore when I get to her home. When I "crack" the kinks out of my neck, she always laughs and asks me if that's a Goren thing. :-))

Hey Spook, This is wierd, but I have those kinks in my neck. I thought it was from a bad car accident last year, my M.D. says it's nerve damage, but maybe it's a Bobby thing? Hmm....Bobby working the kinks out--I think I'm having a hot flash!
Its funny that this thread is about being pathetic. You have no idea how often I hear that word from my daughter when I am talking about CI. That's why I started coming here. When Brother's Keeper came on one day, as soon as I saw the match being lit in the opening sequence I said, "Oh this is a good one." My daughter told me it was pathetic that I knew which episode it was just from that match. HOWEVER--she and I were big time Gilmore Girls fans. Tuesdays were always "Gilmore Girls night" at our house and we had pizza and junk to eat while we watched (what else would you eat during Gilmore Girls?). We have watched the DVDs so many times that we can almost quote entire scenes verbatim. But I don't hear her calling that pathetic! Well, I miss our Gilmore Girls nights--but at least I still have CI!

Noooo, another European here smile.gif

Each decade I have ONE TVshow I follow religiously. Apart from that I don't really watch tv so that's okay smile.gif smile.gif I just love CI, even though I've seen all the eps in English a dozen times I still watch the reruns on German TV each Monday (season 2) and Wednesday (season 6) AND watch a season 1 eppi in French (for "improving my language skills" of course!) occasionally.

I love being a fan of something and I've always loved meeting other fans. Hey, I flew all the way to LA when I was only 18 to go to a Lois&Clark convention smile.gif

shouldn't we also say: "No, see..." in our ritual greeting? (sounds better than: "XY, you're under arrest - for MURDER!") Eames is so predictable smile.gif

"No, see..." I LOVE when she says that. I try to imitate her, but I can't get it right. All I get is another "You're pathetic" (or "You're sorry" or "LOSER!") from my daughter.

I guess that I'm missing that Eames says it the same way every time. I guess I fail to see the quirkyness of it. I would think that it was quirky if she said it differently every time.
