I think this episode is terrific--Neil Patrick Harris is amazing. And watch Mr. D'Onofrio's performance--there's a lot of subtle elements that are just right.
It is an episode that seems to divide LOCI fans--some love it, some hate it.

I totally LOVE the "Want" episode-- it has so many emotions-- goren- eames/carver-heck even deakins all weigh in on that guy and goren is sooooooo sure of the fact that he thinks he is right about the guy and what should happen to him-- i know some fans hate it becuase it is one of the few where eames clearly was NOT on bobby's side-- but hey they don't have to agree on every issue to be great partners- in fact they should be allowed to express their opinions-- that's why i like the 3rd horseman eppy in S1-- they talk about their opinion on abortion-- and clearly bobby did not know what or how much to say at first-- but they talked and really connected

That is the official Criminal Intent forum, I think its official, either which way, its a good sight and quite insightful.
On to the episode. This episode really is one of my faves. I still am unsure as to why Goren was so much on Tagmns side, it was obvious the dude has some issues and it doesnt matter if he didnt intend on killing the girl, he killed her and with the matter it was done he should have recieved the death penalty. When you chose to drill holes in someones skull and pour hot water in those holes, causing death or permanent brain damage he should die too.
I understand that Goren felt for the guy, but he shouldnt have allowed himself to get so close to the guy, creating the sympathy. He's a cop, he should no better than to allow himself to become emotionally attached to a dude who obviously is evil, eventhough he said he knew he wasnt and that there was a good person in him. I call [censored] on that one.
Right after Carver said "Got him" they should have ended it and even if it meant physically pulling Goren out of there, they should have finished it there. Allowing Goren to keep up the conversation led to the admission, leaving Carver with no choice at that point but to plea him out.
Goren should have been repramanded for that.
Overall, the episode gets high marks because of the intensity of everyone involved. Plus it shows that partners dont always agree.

Did anyone see this last night? What did y'all think?
I actually really liked this episode. I think it shows promise.
Barek was actually showing a lot more personality, but I just think her character is supposed to be more subdued. But was fun to see her getting really flirty and getting up into the kid's face and trying to get a reaction out of him. You could see the cool distance in her eyes while she was trying to gauge his reaction to her advances, while Logan was poking around the apartment tring to see if this was the guy they needed to arrest.
I think the parents in this episode could have been erased out of the entire show and we wouldn't have missed anything.
So far, this is the first Logan/Barek episode that I enjoyed from start to finish. Lets hope they keep it up.
Was happy to see Ethan Embry on this show. I used to think he was so cute but now he kinda looks old. His eyes are still amazing though. Very expressive and he's a good actor which I think helped this show a lot.

I actually have to say that this was the best of the Barek/Logan episodes, not that that states alot, cuz they really havent been much to write home about, but it was a good episode and it was the first one that I didnt complain about as soon as I saw her walk in frame.
Definately shows promise for her in terms of showing emotion and not sounding so damned monotone. I was pleased and truly hope that this will be how their episodes are for the remainder. She was still a lil blah at times, but it wasnt nearly that bad.
The story itself was a good one as well. Brad Renfro looked much older than his 25 years, I remember him being the cute kid in Tom & Huck and the John Grisham film with Susan Serandon. Getting old sucks. LoL
Need to see the episode again cuz I missed parts in the middle due to a couple phone calls, so I wont comment much til then.

man.. it's hard.. I like different episodes for different reasons.. but I'll narrow it down this way:
without Eames: it has to be F.P.S. I think this is the first time we actually see how much Eames means to Goren. When he is interrogating the computer game dude.. he stops himself because Eames rational interpretation of a previous interrogation acts as a little voice in his head..*Croyden*.. he wants to share his revelation .. but his temp partner doesn't understand...He looks over his desk at Eames' chair and throws that wad of paper out of frustration..and then he gives a little smirk.. realization arrives.. not only the case... but his own feelings about his partner are clear.. he misses her.
with Eames: ITWSH.. I love this two parter.. I loved the interaction with the other detectives. *there they go.. oceans two* one of my all time favorite lines. how Goren used his distress over the fact the judge had infiltrated his mothers sanctity as a tool to bring that very judge down was terrific.. and that scene in the judges chambers was classic. Eames on the stand.. well what can you say.. in this scene Eames true feelings about her partner are manifested..and how she came to this point of respect and admiration.. one of the best acted scenes of the whole series.
so there it is.

Favorite? What a painful choice that is...I love so many of the episodes
*Least* favorite I can easily do though..."Bombshell"...it's not because it's a Logan episode (I like Logan fine)...but damn is that episode a mess. I know it's supposed to be about celebrity and be Anna Nicole Smith-like but that's what places like TMZ are for. I'm sure it was NBC convincing the powers that be that they needed to do an episode that was like what was in the TV news but did it need to be a rip on a wacky celebrity tabloid drug induced haze? As it is I don't understand all the people who are behind the tabloids most followed stories (the 4 Bimbos of The Apocalypse or whoever) but the real life stories are dumb enough thanks. And CI isn't for dumb people.
There was one mildly funny scene in "Bombshell", the scene in which Logan and Wheeler are questioning the two wealthy prudish old lady spinsters and their 40,000 cats are climbing all over Logan and just not leaving him alone (cats have a sixth sense about people who generally don't like them and will go up to them, thinking they're playing hard to get and bug them until they've won them over on the idea that cats are wonderful...if you want an unfamiliar cat to go away but not hurt it, head straight for it ready to fawn all over it, calling out to it with loud baby talk and watch it run away...usually works like a charm). I couldn't stop laughing at that scene but quite possibly for all the wrong reasons. I sure hope Noth isn't allergic to cats.
But geez watching the rest of that episode was so painful and not worth it. I felt sorry for Peter Bogdanovich (who is also apparently a good sport as well as a good director) playing his Hugh Heffner like role in the middle of such chaos. He's good in that part but how could you tell given how bad everything else was about "Bombshell"?
TMZ is generally not a good source for CI story ideas.

I like the G/E interaction and the "acquired taste" scene outside the courtoom in ITWSH. I don't think Goren was at his "hottest" in this ep, ("physicality"-speaking, intentional typo) but that isn't always my prime consideration. ;-) And "Oceans Two" - I LOVE it!

I have alot of favorites, but I am not very good at matching up the title with the eppy...pls give brief synopsis of your fave if you could along with the title.
Mine is the one with Michael York and his harem of blonde women, and Nicole Wallace ends up being his ex wife? I think it's called "Slither"??. It's just such a well done story with lots of interesting twists and turns and interactions with the characters. When Goren wants him to say that word in Cantonese...
I just watched the one where Goren and Eames find the "secret prisoners" at that state prison after one of the prison guards is killed. That one was also very well done...haunting to think about that going on right under our noses.
Also the one where Deakins has to arrest his buddy who was running for police commissioner, that one is a trip!!
Sorry I don't know the eppy titles!!!

5:
ITWSH duh.

Season 1 favorites:
Poison - One of Goren's most uncomfortable moments in this episode speaking in front of the brass! (That's who he was speaking to, right?

) I loved it!
Phantom - Ooh! Michael Emerson is soooooo creepy is this episode! My FAVORITE scene in this episode is when Goren finds him in the hotel room, about to shoot his kids!!!!! Goren positions himself in front of the gun, and the look on his face when he sees the gun right in front of his face is PRICELESS!!!!!!
Badge - I love it when Goren puts the dead man's bloody shirt on himself! I also love when Goren mimics the way the security officer talks, and he gets in her face a lot in the episode!
Faith - GREAT EPISODE about a sick little girl -- who did not exist!
Season 2 favorites:
Chinoiserie - I loved the whole scene where Goren says, "You've loosened your tie, you got a drink on your desk; you got three phone lines blinkin'; and you're chewin' the inside of your cheeks like some kind of frantic chipmunk! Are you under a lot of stress?!!!"
Tomorrow - This is the must-see episode about the nannies! Goren's attention to detail about the peas!!!! WOW! Awesome episode, that's all I can say…..
Suite Sorrow - Oh, the set up! Goren's heart-breaking frustration as revealed in the last scene was just heart-wrenching! "I know that anger; I should have seen it coming!"
Probability - This was a SAD episode. The suspect had no clue what disorder he had; he had no clue whatsoever why he was doing things in patterns…. The line in the end spoken by Eames about being a pen pal with Goren was PRICELESS! (I am so excited to see that he really did write to him! See Endgame, Season 6.)
A Person of Interest - (Nicole Wallace episode) Goren suspected the WRONG guy of murder! Favorite scene: Goren (frustrated): "She got me good." Eames (comfortingly): "Then let's get her back."
Season 3 favorites:
A Murderer Among Us - I LOVE the scene when Goren pretends to hit the man in the knee! (That's what the man did to people.) It was tragic that the woman killed herself to prove that her husband killed all those people…
Pas de Deux- Goren dances in this episode!

That's all I can say!
Consumed - WOW! The woman was willing to sit in diapers during her stake out!

She framed her police officer neighbor for 3 murders just so she could get the bank account numbers and burn them so her husband would know what it felt like to lose everything he had. (I LOVE the scene where Goren tries on the glasses!

)
Season 4 favorites:
Semi-Detached - Nelda, Nelda, Nelda…. "I thought you cared about me… I know you do. I saw it." Goren replies, "I didn't mean for you to see it." Aaaahhh! THAT is a heart-stopper! WOW!!! I nearly fell over!!!!!
The Posthumous Collection - I love how Goren stares at the photos and realizes they are all dead… (It's just something about the way Goren stares at things…)
In The Dark - Awesome episode!!! I think that's the episode when Goren says, "Cat got your tongue? Cuz there's an extra one here." Also, the way Goren figures it out in the end, that the woman still had the baby inside her!!! Wow!!!
Silver Lining - I LOVE this episode! (I think mainly because it shows a map of Pennsylvania for like 5 seconds on the screen when Goren/Eames are looking for them… and I can see where I am in Pennsylvania… No, you can't ask me where... I don't want any stalkers…)
I just love the whole episode…
Season 5 favorites:
Prisoner - I love the dancing Bobby (as a mailman)! (Which reminds me, why doesn't USA Network sell a Bobby Goren bobblehead????) I also love it when Goren slips out a piece of paper with the pyramid on it and it catches the guy's attention...
In The Wee Small Hours - WOW!!! What can I say? When Eames was on the stand having to read her letter, oh wow! That was so sad to see Goren's reaction at hearing that for the first time, and then after court is over, he says, "You're right; I AM an acquired taste. I'm lucky you withdrew your letter." What a hyperventilating moment!
Scared Crazy - Aw, that poor kid! All that torture! This is yet another episode that showcases Goren's intellect in getting suspects to confess. He made the woman think the kid was being tortured, so she admitted what she did to him… I love to watch that episode again and again!
Season 6 favorites:
Blind Spot - Goren and the arm scene! (His arm sticks out of the elevator when he gets the text message that Eames is kidnapped.) AND when Goren gets emotional in the end finding out who kidnapped Eames and who killed the other women.
Siren Call - when Goren has a gun pointed at him and gets it out of Ray's hand, and Goren says, "STOP, JUST STOP!"
Privilege - when Lady Harrington is clearly dehydrated, Goren says to her son & daughter-in-law, "Sit down and shut up!"
End Game - The WHOLE EPISODE WAS AWESOME!!!!! In the beginning, we are briefly reunited with Goren's PENPAL from season 2 (episode, Probability)!!!!! I was hyperventilating when I discovered who Goren's father is… WOW!!!! And when Goren got up and started choking him!!!!! Oh, and that was so sad to see him in the last scene, in that chair, after his mother passed away.
Season 7 favorites:
Amends… (so far…) I'm very happy Ross FINALLY stuck up for Goren when he let the suspect go. It was sooooo exciting when Goren said that he would "tear this place apart because I'm the whack job." It was a great episode and an excellent start for the move from NBC to USA.
Okay, so when it comes down to it, if I have to narrow it down, my favorites of my favorites would be:
Badge, Faith, Tomorrow, Probability, A Person Of Interest, A Murderer Among Us, Semi-Detached, In The Dark, In The Wee Small Hours, Scared Crazy, Blind Spot, Siren Call, Endgame, Amends.
Whew! Okay, I got it down to 14 favorites. (Technically it is 15 episodes if you count ITWSH as 2 episodes!) Let's see, if I have to narrow it down even further, I would have to say… Shall I go further? I'm sorry to obsess over this, but that's what I do!
Badge, Faith, Tomorrow, Probability, A Person of Interest, Semi-Detached, Blind Spot, Siren Call, Endgame, Amends.
Yea! I FINALLY got it down to my top 10 favorite episodes!

I am so exhausted. My favorite episode was on last night at midnight on some random cable channel. It is "Tomorrow". The episode where the two sisters Sarah and Hannah that are the nannies. VDO was at his best in this episode. I love when he prepares the little girl her lunch of tofu bologna and corn. You just have to watch him during the whole scene. Poor Eames only opens a juice box.
Plus this is the episode where he wears the BTSOH. He is so animated and happy. I think he smiled more in this episode than in all others.

Geez...i can only pick one? I don't know if that's possible...maybe one from each season???
1. Homo Humni Lupus -- This was the first episode that really grabbed me and set the tone that they weren't afraid of going to those dark places. I love the interaction between Goren and Maggie and later Goren and Simon. The way he coaxes her into talking to them is so perfect and brillant because on one he is being sympathetic, but he's not coddling her.
2. Person of Interest -- All of the interactions between VDO and Olivia D'Abo are brillant, but what i really like about this episode is how we start to see the chinks in Goren's armour and we really see him crack for the first time with a suspect (Croyden). We were introduced to some of his past/issued before but this really was on a different level from what we had been shown prior. Favorite line: "My how you hate to be contradicted!" The reason i love it is because it's true and it is a flaw of his. I love flawed heroes that have dark back stories.
3. A Murderer Amoung Us -- The last seen between Goren and the suspect -- that's all i really have to say about that.
4. Magnificant -- I tend to be drawn to the dark stories and stories that have alot of grey areas. This one always interested me because the actually killer is really a victim in her own right, and i'm by no means condoning women who kill their children (it's horrific) but I could see why she would have been driven to thinking that was her only option. I also like how we see a hint of Eames being as upset with the husband as Goren, which wasn't generally the norm. She still kept her head more than Goren, but you could see that she was just as affected as he when it came to the husband.
5. Acts of Contrition -- Love the actress who plays the nun in this episode. She was in an earlier episode too (Smothered, i think) and she's been on episodes of SVU and she was part of the cell block tango in the film adaptation of Chicago...i have no idea what her name is but she's amazing. The scene where she finally confesses to her part in the man's beating was heartbreaking.
6. Blind Spot -- Eames scaling a wall in three inch heels! I love the fact that no one came to her resuce and that she saved herself. We got to see how resourceful she really is and that she's not just Goren's side kick. Plus Martha Plimpton (anybody else remember the Goonies) and John Glover. The last scene between Jo and Goren is great. Her reaction as she's confessing is so matter of fact and just chilling.

Oh boy, its so hard to choose just one. There are so many that I love. And I agree with you, Vault, about "Bombshell". I like the "ripped from the headlines" shows when they are done well. The best ones for all 3 shows are the ones that start out "ripped" but wind up with so many twists and turns that it no longer resembles the original news story. That didn't happen with "Bombshell". Anther one I really disliked was "Weeping Willow". I've probably seen it 3 times and I still don't know exactly what happened--I get bored by the end and tune out. But it also had a great Logan moment when Logan had to hold the baby. He was hilarious.
OK, but this is about favorites, so I'll get back on topic. As many as I love, I guess the one I watch the most frequently would have to qualify as my one favorite. That would be "Endgame". There are lots of reasons why. The acting all around was incredible. Rita Moreno, Tony Goldwyn, and Roy Scheider were amazing. VDO and KE were at their best. I love it because we see Goren at his most vulnerable--and we see him survive it. Why are strong men SO attractive when they occasionally show us how vulnerable they are. But not too much, please--then they just become big ol' crybabies (Bruce Willis showed a hilarious example of that on a "Friend" episode)! Goren's journey in that episode, from detached investigator to the son of a victim, was beautiful to watch. Of course, there is no way Ross should have let him continue on the case. But the payoff of that final confrontation with Brady was well worth my "suspension of belief". Rita and VDO managed, in their few scenes toghether, to show such depth of love, despite the dysfunction--I loved it. Just as interesting to watch was Eames. I loved her interactions with Brady. In the first interview he tells her that beautiful women like to have their pictures taken and says to her, "Surely you must". She didn't answer, she just stared him down. When G/E come back from the search of the lake house Brady is going on and on about his crocuses. Eames looks him straight in the eye and says, "We dug them up--every one." Then she moved into protective mode, first with Brady when she closed Goren's notebook and told him he had somewhere much more important to be. Then with Ross when she asked him to keep Goren on the case. In the scene with Bobby outside the elevator, it took a lot of courage for her to trust him. If he had "lost it", then her career could have been damaged.

Bobby in the red Ferrari in Cherry Red. Priceless. When he says, I wish I could tell you how this feels, but not in mixed company.
Yeah, that comment was awesome. I also liked when Eames was like: you have to get out of the car now.

It was also great when Goren and Carver were in the interview room looking at the model cars. Carver kept saying, "Whoa!" Cracked me up. Then Eames came in and said, "I hate to break up the play group". Great episode.

I like Endgame but I've seen it too many times as I transcribed it over the course of two months. But it's still a great story with great acting.
I have more favorite moments than favorite episodes. I love the scene from Badge where he's smoking a cigarette and salutes the suspect like he does as Abbie Hoffman in "Steal This Movie". Anytime he's in street clothes is awesome. My favorite interrogation scene is when he's explaining what he thinks happened with little dolls in Chinoiserie. It was kinda goofy but I loved it.

Diamond Dogs. It is a Chris Noth episide although I would run away in a heartbeat with VDO. So hot. So, so hot. I love smart and quirky.

The one i liked i think it was called Collective where that family of a mother and her 2 sons go out in her car and then explodes and it comes down to her husband who actually did it because she had disturbed mind and in the interview room it actually showed all feelings of bobby of trying to get the husband guilty and more so to me you could actually see tears in his eyes it really was emotional and then in the courtroom at the end it was nice of him of then of going to see if there was any sort of councilling that could be done
