"I can 't tell him, he didn't trust me before and he certainly isn't going to trust me now." Natasha wails.
"You are they key to help them out. It may be the only way to get on his good side." Trinity stresses as she tries to counsel Natasha on her present dilemma.
You know where they are being held right? Natasha nods. "They think you are out of the picture, so they have no reason to move them."
"I don't know, what do I tell him?"
"Just concoct a story that it was V's idea" Trinity suggests "and they were just suppose to scare them. That Nate was gonna dump you for her. And if Michael Westen moves fast they can get to them before V does. The Man can't call you, he thinks you were in the fire, so he is in limbo with what to do with them."
"What if the police or V find out?"
"He's not gonna call the police, there would be too many question. And, and mention his mom, you said his mom loves you, and if say you might call her and ask about Nate and you know the domino effect that can cause? You can pull this off; you've pulled off more difficult plans before. I think he would do just about anything to save them and then you can go on with your plans."
"Maybe you're right" Natasha sniffles as she reaches for a tissue. What harm can it do? Nate thinks I'm going to save him, so I may as well play the game a little longer."
Looking at her watch. "Make sure you get a promise so they won't try to nail anything on you. You need to make the call now, I've got to get to work soon."

The caller id reveals restricted number as it begins to ring. Michael quickly snaps it up.
"Did you check your mail?" the male caller asks
"Yes, you have our attention."
"You see they were safe and sound 3 hours ago; it's up to you to keep them that way. "
"I want to talk to them."
"Very direct aren't you."
"Either I talk to them or I hang up."
The sound of the phone handed over is heard. "Yea bro?"
"Nate, are you ok?"
"Yea, sorry man, I don't know what happened. Have you talked to Natasha yet? She…."
"That's enough for now, you heard from him."
"Ok I want to talk to the girl." There is a long pause on the other end of the phone. "I said
wanted to talk to the girl." Michael perseveres.
The caller sighs "Its like dealing with children isn't it, you have to use a reward and discipline system. If they don't follow the rules they get punished and lose privileges, such as talking on the phone. You understand?
"What have you done to her?"
"Nothing. Our hospitality reflects directly on their cooperation."
"Just let me talk to her, I'll tell her to cooperate." Michael tries to negotiate.
"We'll finish this conversation later" and the call is disconnected. Michael looks up to see Sam staring at him as he still holds the phone to his ear. "Mike, what happened?" He demands to know "why wouldn't they let you talk to her"
****
After The Man leaves the room where Nate is held, he makes another call and reports, "I've made the first phone call, and I only let the guy talk, like you ordered … yea, ok." As The Man ends the call, he directs his men "Get everything together, we're moving them."

Nate hears the door open as they push Debra in; her wrists still restrained by the flex cuffs. Nate tries to comfort her, making sure she's not hurt, before holding her tight, " It's gonna be ok, I'm here to take care of you."
"Nate what's going on, why won't they let us go?" as she starts to cry on his shoulder.
"I don't know honey; it's got to be a mistake. It wasn't supposed to happen like this. We'll be out of here soon." He tries to reassure her.
As soon as the door is shut, Nate suddenly feels the sudden pain from her jabbing him in the ribs with her elbows, and kicking him in the shin, he quickly moves out of her reach. Her mood just swung faster than the pendulum swings.
"What?" as he nurses his side.
"What? That's all you have to say to me? what? What is going on? This was not a routine deal. What have you told them?"
"Don't worry. Natasha will get us out of here, and she was right about you, you have ulterior motives. You are jealous of her, she told me about…."
"Wait a minute" Debra interrupts him "back up, what did you say?
"She told me about you…"
"Before that,"
"That you were jealous…"
"No the "It wasn't suppose to happen like this" comment and how does she know about me?" the tone in Debra's voice turns the room about 20 degrees cooler.
"Uh, honey," as Nate takes a couple of steps back "keep your voice down. Well, I…"
It suddenly dawns on her, and with a shocked and astonished look on her face she challenges him "You told her, about me, about everything that was going on…"
"Deb, you don't understand…"
"Where is she then? Haven't you waited long enough?" Debra venomously spits out "You expected her to fly in her on her broom and…"
In the split second that follows that comment, he suffers a knee-jerk reaction as he delivers a stinging slap to her face.
He doesn't realize it yet, that single action will end up haunting him in the future, but the immediate pain associated with it will be remembered sooner, as she takes a step back and launches a well placed kick to his groin. As he clutches and falls to the ground in pain, the two guards walk in, observe the situation, and interject "are we interrupting anything?"
"He fell" was her caustic comeback.
"And you're a psycho" he retorts.
"Come on, time to go" one of the guards take Debra by the arm and as the other gets Nate to his feet.

Michael answers his cell phone as soon as it rings. "Hello?"
A woman's voice responses, "Hello Weston, this is V".
"What can I do for you, V?"
"You can find Natasha for me. I want her to contact me within the next 24 hours. I know she was not hurt in the gallery explosion. I also know she thinks I had something to do with it," V replies.
Curious, Michael asks, "What makes you think I can find her or that she will contact me?"
"Oh, don't play me for a fool. She has no where else to go. You just better make sure the two of you get together sooner rather than later or you both may not like the consequences."
Obviously getting angry, Michael retorts, "I don't handle threats well."
A confident V responds, "That's your problem Weston. Just understand I follow through on my threats with no hesitations. You and Natasha may want to compare notes."
Michael hears the phone click before he can respond.
"What was that about?" asks Sam.
Agitated, Michael answers, "We're playing a game of tag and now we're it."

Nate slowly drags himself to a sitting position against the wall and stretches his legs out; telling himself to stay mentally focused, as his head is starting to clear and he can finally try to think straight.
A few feet away Debra is supine on the floor, eyes closed, with angry ligature marks gracing her wrists. The only noticeable movement is the steady rise and fall of her chest as she breathes.
After finally getting his bearings and taking in the layout of the room, Nate finally breaks the lengthy period of silence "You feeling any better?"
"The room’s still spinning when I open my eyes or move my head" being careful not to move as she replies.
"It’ll take time, I can finally move a little more. Wonder where we’re at now?"
"We’re on some type of boat; it’s listing to the port side and there is a rocking movement every now and then, probably because of wave motion. There’s no engine noise, and we don’t seem to be moving, so we might be anchored or docked somewhere." Debra quietly responds.
"I was a Girl Scout. I got a badge for knowing that kind of stuff." She explains before he starts to ask any more questions.
"Maybe we’re seasick? That could explain our symptoms."
Drugged is more like it, though she is hesitant to share that tidbit of information right now, she slowly exhales "Yeah, seasick. Nate, do me a favor."
"Sure"
"Just sit there, be quiet and don’t come near me for awhile."

Tibbs has finally dragged Sam away to grab some lunch.
"You want something, what is it?" Sam suspiciously asks after they order and have their drinks.
"Sam, I didn't want to say anything in front of the others, out of curiosity I pulled a report on Debra." Tibbs confesses as she drops the papers in front of Sam.
There is an awkward pause, and without looking at the papers, Sam finally answers. "Have you told anyone else?"
"No"
"Don't"
"How long have you known?"
Sam takes a long drink, and then stares at the glass for a couple of minutes before answering "A couple of weeks after we started seeing each other, one of my buddies hinted around about her. I had a report pulled. She wont talk much about it."
Tibbs inhales sharply. "I'm sorry, I didn't know. My suspicious nature got the better of me. It's been three years, and it wasn't her fault, just something went wrong. "
"To say something went wrong is an understatement, I found out more than those reports tell." Sam angrily lashes out. "She went through a glass window to get them to safety. Thats why she has those scars, as a reminder. After the smoke cleared she took a leave of absence which leads us to now. All that anyone else knows is that she's a computer analyst, and a darn good one. She still has ties with the Bureau and she wants to keep that side of her life separate." Sam continues. "It's not easy being her boyfriend right now, I can't do anything to help."
Changing the subject and trying to sound optimistic "Those guys who have them don't seem the type that would care or even try to figure her out, so as long as she plays her role she should be safe. "
"Now you see why – " he catches himself in mid-sentence, looks out at the surroundings before he speaks again in a hushed voice "She would try to get away if she was on her own, but she won't leave without him and that's gonna slow her down. What worries me is Nate, he'll cave in to any pressure, putting her in danger, and if anything happens to her --" before he can finish he is interrupted by a young boy carrying an envelope.
"Hey Mister, some guy said you'd give me $20 if I delivered this to you."
"He did huh?" Sam laughs. "Did I win a vacation somewhere?"
"Nuh uh, he said it's about your girlfriend."
Sam tries to snatch the envelope, but the young boy is quicker, pulls it back and extends his other hand with an outreached palm.
"Tibbs give him the money." Sam snaps keeping his eye on the envelope and the boy.
Tibbs holds the bill out as the exchange takes place. The boy grabs the money and runs as Sam grabs the envelope.

Rule Number One: V doesn't like surprises.
Which is what she got with the palpable results from the report on the mystery girlfriend. She is already on the phone "Find out who she working for! I don't care how you do it, find out!" Even though V was speaking in a calm and cool demeanor, the caller could feel the chilling tone that no one wants to be on the receiving end of.
"I want an answer within the hour." She disconnects the call and takes a deep breath. This revelation opens up more questions than answers on how this could happen and has made her look like a fool at the same time.
Which brings us to Rule Number Two:
No one makes V look like a fool. And Nate's "girlfriend" has managed to fool everyone, and even V has ended up on the guest list of this game. She smiles as she makes some notes and plans a tête-à-tête with her guest.

A loud noise gets Nate’s attention. He quietly gets up, moves over to the door and strains to listen for any signs or movement outside the room, and hears nothing. Maybe it was just his mind playing tricks on him. He begins to pace around the room, stretching his limbs. He pauses to look over to Debra.
She is sitting against the opposite wall; one leg bent at the knee, the other stretched out in front of her. The only movement she has made is stretching and repositioning of her body. True to her word, she has remained reserved toward him.
The stillness is broken by the sounds of footsteps and voices getting closer. Within minutes the door is unlocked and two guards walk in. "What do you want now?" Nate confronts them. Wordlessly, their focus turns to the other figure in the room and they begin move in her direction. Nate defiantly steps in front of them. "You’re not taking her anywhere." There is hostility in his tone that even surprises himself.
One guard moves quickly, subduing Nate and forcing him against the wall, as the other guard approaches Debra. She is strangely submissive as she is pulled to her feet; the only sound she makes is when she openly winces as the plastic tie is tightened around her already painful wrists.
"Why are you doing that, you can see she can’t do anything to you" Nate argues as he continues to struggle, as she is quietly lead away. She’s still out of it, oblivious to what’s happening. Nate silently vows to do something; he doesn't know what, but he has to do something to make it up to her.
"I’ll take her from here, you go back to your post" the lead guard orders his partner after the door is locked. As he begins to walk her ahead of him, Debra is quietly alert and walks slowly, familiarizing herself with the surroundings, waiting to make her move. Then without warning, as if the guard could read her mind, his hand goes over her mouth and he hisses in her ear "listen pet, don’t make any sudden movements or noises and just listen, we’ve got another problem."
DebraL
Jan 30 2008, 11:18 PM
The pair pause before another door. The Guard whispers "Remember what I told you, and we need to work this to our advantage. I’ll be in the room, so you’ll be ok." Debra quickly nods and nervously takes a deep breath before the Guard knocks on the door.
Moments later a voice is heard from inside the room "Come in"
As they enter the dimly lit, near barren room and she feels a chill run up and down her spine as a confident, well-dressed woman walks into view and approaches them. Debra starts to step back and is stopped by the physical presence of the Guard.
"Welcome my dear" as she is greeted warmly by V. "I’ve been looking forward to meeting you. Where are our manners? Untie her" V directs the guard. After the ties are carefully cut from her wrists, V leads her to one of the two chairs in the room and abruptly dismisses the Guard "Leave us alone so we can talk."
"But…"
"I said leave us, its just girl talk, it’ll bore you" V addresses Debra as she runs her nails across her cheek and feels the shudder under her touch. "You won’t try anything will you?" and without changing her focus excuses the Guard again "I’ll call for you if I need you, you’ll just be right outside the door"
V locks the door after the Guard has left the room, and makes her way to the chair sitting opposite her guest. After patiently waiting and watching for several minutes, V leans forward, speaking softly, wanting to draw her prey into her confidence. "We’ve already talked to your "boyfriend," and to be fair, I want to hear your side of the story."
V is met with silence. Sensing that Debra maybe close to her breaking point; all V has to do is push a little more. She turns on the compassion and empathy in her tone, reaches and places her hand over hers in a sympathetic gesture. "Debra, I can help you and I will, but I need you to trust me." Said the spider to the fly.
Debra slowly looks up, her body tremors slightly as she shakes her head and answers in an unsteady, but quiet voice "You don’t understand."

"We need a gameplan," Michael declared as he crossed to the fridge in his place.
"Torture isn't a gameplan?" Fiona offered.
"No, Fi," he sighed, retrieving a container for her and himself. "Besides, who are you proposing to torture? The mysterious man on the other end of the phone?"
"Give me time, I could come up with some names."
"Once again, no torture," he repeated, handing her a spoon and placing the yogurt on the table in front of her.
"Spoilsport," she grumbled as she removed the lid.
The door was flung open and Tibbs was pushed into Michael's apartment, followed quickly by Sam. "Ow, geez, I said I would cooperate, didn't I?" she said, rubbing her sore shoulder.
"Whatever. Take a seat, Mata Hari," Sam instructed, nudging her toward a chair. She glared at him but did as he said, as Sam walked over to Michael with the envelope he'd been given by the boy at lunch.
"Uh, what's the problem, Sam?" Michael inquired.
"Tibbsy is trying to play both sides of the fence, that's the problem." He dumped the envelope's contents onto the table--surveillance photos of the Interpol agent meeting with V, emails and transcripts of phone conversations. "Somewhere between Budapest and here, she struck up a deal. Take over Natasha's art forgery racket, get rid of Natasha and Nate, and get herself a large sum of non-taxable money."
"Uh, correction," Tibbs interjected from her seat, "An enormously large sum of non-taxable money. Well, I do have to worry about my own retirement."
"You're working with V?" Michael asked.
"She runs her scams, I get paid to look the other way," Tibbs explained. "And it all went fine until darling Debra got a little too close to the truth. Come on, Sam. I knew she was 'Gus.' It's just that you seemed so happy together--you and your little computer geek girl...."
"Where is she?" Sam demanded, stepping towards her.
"I don't know. As soon as V found out Natasha was still alive, she cut me out of the loop, thinking I'd double-crossed her."
"Well, you haven't. Yet," Michael noted, moving to stand over her with his arms crossed. "But you are gonna' tell us exactly where V keeps all her secrets hidden."
She looked up at him with a wry smile. "A spy threatening another spy? It's a bit tacky, don't you think?"

Natasha's cell phone buzzed, interrupting her conversation with Michael. She glanced at the phone and gasped, "It's V!"
"Answer it!" Michael commanded.
Nastasha hesitated, obviously nervous, then answered the call, "Hello?"
"Hello Natasha. I saw Sam-I-Am strong arming you. What gives? He not giving you love?"
"V..." Natasha began.
V interrupted, "Are you alone?"
"No."
"Then just listen and nod your little head. I know how greedy you are. So, just realize I can easily double my original offer. Also, remember I do NOT stop to get back my enemies. Cross me and you may not be around to cross anybody else."
"V! I...", Natasha stammered.
"Didn't I say to shut your trap? Now, you need to just keep calm and stick to the same game plan we had before. They think they know about our little plan. That's exactly what I want. So, just tell them I'm checking in with you. You are my ears. I don't trust that Weston. He's a crafty little bastard. Now, say your good-byes and hang up."
"Bye, V".
Natasha starts hyperventilating, clutching her chest. Fiona quickly gets a glass from the cupboard, fills it with water, and hands it to the obviously freaked girl.
"Drink!" Fiona crooned, stroking the distressed girl's hair.
Michael looks at Sam and they both shake their heads. Waiting until she calms down before questioning her. Clearing his throat, Micheal asks, "So, V knows that we are on to you?"
Natasha gulps the water then after taking a deep breath answers, "Yes. she wanted you to find out. She wants me to double agent for her, pushing you guys to try to do the same. She's now doubled the money she's offering me."
"How do we know you won't flip on us?" asks a skeptical Sam.
Tears welling in her eyes, Natasha replies, "I love money but I don't think I will survive long enough to enjoy it, if I team up with V."
An angry Michael responds, "Yeah? I think you're right."

"To you, she was a liability! That's why you were so eager for her to go, wasn't it?" Sam is losing what little patience he has with her. "I trusted you and you planned just to get her out of the way."
"She's a female, females are naturally curious." She replied with a smug look. 'I know she read those printouts before she gave them to you, and maybe she just kept a copy or had a back up sent to a remote location for future reference. V wanted to make sure that didn't happen."
Sam was taken aback. This was not the Tibbs he knew just a couple of weeks ago.
"You mean blackmail?" Sam shakes his head at the thought. "Deb would never do that."
"Wouldn't she?" came her mocking reply. "She's savvy enough. You should have kept her in the dark, like where she's been keeping you."
Michael and Fi watch as Sam's features have quickly turn to a furious crimson, the veins throbbing in his forehead and neck as he and Tibbs have become locked in a staring contest. Tibbs was referring to their lunch conversation.
Then it hit Sam like a lightning bolt. That's explains why Tibbs pulled that report, it wasn't curiosity, V wanted to know who Debra was, and now she knows.
"Where is she? Just tell me where she is" Sam grabs Tibbs arms to emphasize his point "So help me if anything happens to her, you will regret it."
Tibbs innocently raises her eyebrows and calmly speaks "threatening me isn't going to help them any faster is it?"
He feels a strong pressure on his arm "Sam, Let her go. We're going to get them back." Michael voice is tense but steady. "Just let her go, she's not going anywhere."

Nate keeps pacing like a caged animal in the locked room.
He doesn't have any concept of time, now knowing how long it's been since she's been gone.
He hears voices and footsteps passing the door, they don't stop or answer him.
The door finally opened at one point and a tray of food is placed inside the room and the door is shut without any questions or comments.
Aside from that, nothing.
- - - - - -
Debra puts her head in her hands trying to figure out and, at the same time, forget, what happened.
When the guard walks in the room, she doesn't look up.
"How, how long?" Debra whispers.
"Three hours." The guard tells her. "You were in there with her for over three hours." He kneels down beside her. "What were you two talking about?"
Debra closes her eyes as she shakes her head, shudders, "just girl talk"
She won't look at him.
"You said you'd be in there."
"She told me to leave, I had to. Pet?"
He waits.
"Debra, look at me."
He takes her chin in his hands, he feels her flinch, and then she finally looks at him.
The skin around her mouth and cheeks is still red, though traces of adhesive residue remain, residue from where tape was ripped off.
"Here, I brought you some soup." He hands her a covered cup and then opens a can of an energy drink. "You're gonna need this too."
She takes the soup without question.
"What did she want?" He asks again.
He watches as she painfully moves and he catches a glimpse of the visible marks left on her body as her torn shirt shifts, and bare skin is revealed.
"She was mad because I didn't have answers to her questions." She looks at him with wide, teary eyes. "I didn't know the answers. I don't know what she wants. Why is she doing this to me?"
"I don't know." He speaks calmly and quietly. "It's gonna be ok, she's gone, for now. "
"Debra" Using her full name again to get her attention. "Are you coherent enough to understand me?"
"Yes" She nods. "as long as you don't use big words with more than two syllables." She rolls her eyes at him.
He inwardly smiles, she getting her senses back, but he stays serious. "Remember our conversation before you talked to her."
She nods.
"Focus and tell me what you remember of that conversation."
She looks at him quizzically and then repeats what was said.
"Good. I needed to make sure you were still able to focus and concentrate. We need to get you out of here now."
"Ya think?" came her sarcastic reply.
"I made the calls we talked about, we have to move fast though." He heads toward the door. "Stay put, I'll come back for you when its safe."
"Nate." She looks at him questioningly.
"What about him?"
She stares him down. "I told you before I'm not leaving without him."

"You know what to do?"
"We’ve been over this three times already. I think I can remember a few details, and I can be convincing when I need to be."
The Guard wants to say something else, but knows it will fall on deaf ears.
"Are you ready?"
Debra closes her eyes as she leans her head back against the wall. A long moment passes before she finally answers. "Yea, lets go."
"If you change your mind--"
"I know. And don’t worry I’ll deal with him later." Came Debra’s cool reply.
"Ok" The Guard looks at his watch. "The five minute count starts… now."
----------------------
The door finally opens and The Guard walks in, half carrying Debra by his side.
"You s-o-b, what did you to her?" Nate lunges for the Guard and the next thing he knows he is against the wall with his arm twisted behind his back.
"Come on, I thought you would have learned the last time. I’m going to let you go, but you need to play nice so I can get you out of here." He releases the arm in question.
"You’re helping us?" Nate exclaims while rubbing his arm.
"Lets get one thing straight, I am helping her. HER." The Guard snaps quietly in his ear as he jabs a finger in his chest. "If it were up to me, I’d leave you here. But she won’t leave without you so I don’t have a choice."
Meanwhile Debra has slid down onto the floor watching the two of them confer/argue/discuss or whatever it is men do at a time like this.
"Yea, whatever." Nate angrily stomps away from the Guard and makes his way over to where Debra is sitting on the floor, then backs up in alarm as she cries out in pain and cringes when he tries to help her up.
Nate glares at the Guard who shakes his head as if to answer the unspoken question.

"Come on, we’ve got two minutes." As he hurries them along, the Guard continues to explain what is suppose to happen.
They end up at the edge of the boat and take in their surroundings. Water as far as the eye could see.
See over there?" He points to a small fishing boat about 150 yards away. "That’s where you swim to. They’ll take you from there."
"Sharks?" Debra absentmindedly says.
"What?"
"Sharks, man eating sharks, in the water?"
The Guard avoids her eyes and looks quizzically at Nate; "Don’t worry, they wouldn’t be interested in you because you’re a woman."
"Oh, yea." Came her monotone reply.
"Is there a plan "B?" Nate questions.
"Not really. It’s not going to be easy, but it’s the only way we can get you" he corrects himself "the two of you, out of here on such short notice and cover all the tracks. It’s gonna hit the fan when they find you gone so the quieter you are the better."
The Guard pauses before continuing. "You’re gonna have to stay out of sight for awhile. And no, I don’t know if its gonna be 12 hours, 24 hours or longer. But there are people that are going to hide you until they get the all clear."
Nate feels a pressure pulling on his hand and turns to find Debra backing away. "I can’t, can’t go in the water again." He watches helplessly as panic sets in and sees how vulnerable she is right now.
Then it happened. Nate took charge.
There is one way to get a woman’s attention.
He grabs her by the shoulders and plants a passionate kiss on her lips, "listen to me, you can do this, I’ll be right there with you, I won’t let you down this time, I promise." He watches for some type of reaction.
Nate keeps the grip on her shoulders and listens as her breathing finally starts to slow down, the panic starts to subside and the look in her eyes is slowly replaced with a mixture of fear and skepticism.
He drags her closer to the edge, while coaxing "Stay with me, and breathe, breathe, on three we jump-- one, two" as he pushes her overboard on the two count "and three" then he follows her into the water.
