I don't think it's that "Americans" are always rude....seems like it might be a New Yorker thing
That's why you gotta just chill in Chi. We're the best kind of people!!! (maybe a little arrogant, but hey! I am damn proud to be a Chicagoan!!)
Where are you from again? Are you actually in the city or just outside of it?
I live in Rodgers Park in Chicago. But we're moving to NYC next year, so I've been checking things out and trying to make connections so that we can move to the right neighborhood and know some peeps before we just go there and take the plunge. It's a tough move I'll tell you that. Nothing beats the wonderful extremities of Chicago. You got a fresh water lake that has the most beautiful beach. My husband and I go to the beach everyday with our dog. It's the best way to start the day and gives my dog exercise. I'm going to miss that the most. And then you have comedy! Everywhere! I mean, Chicago is the birth place of SNL and National Lampoon's and Second City- Blues Brothers, Dan Akroyd, Gilda Radner, Chevy Chase, and Improv/ sketch. That's the reason why I moved here, and it's been quite a fabulous thing to learn and experience. If you haven't gone to Chicago Improv- GO! IO (Imrpov Olymic) is the best in my opinion. But Prat Fall at Second City is great right now too. And my improv group will be performing at Second City in January. I think we're calling the show "Permission to Fail", but it's up in the air at the moment. So come see me fools! I'll drop you's a line when I get the specific dates.
Oh and I just got back from seeing a play tonight- A MUST SEE! House Theater's "The Sparrow". Anyone in Chicago needs to see this show. It's so so so so so sos osos good! It's about a high school girl who's a super hero, and it is so brilliantly put together. Heart warming- chilling- funny- Brilliatn. There's very little set, but the way they use choreography and blocking and tiny things- like a locker door- or a magic trick- AHH! It was soo good. I actually felt like I was watching a movie at one point, because the way they set up the actors onstage it looked like the girl was flying up to the rafters to save this other girl from following. Brilliant. Gives you chills. If you're not in Chicago- you can buy their DVD's online at House theater.com. And it's totally worth it. I've never seen anythign done by this company that wans't amazing. They're the new Steppenwolf in my opinion. Screw "Wicked' This is what theater is about. Creating spectial without machinary and all the rikita racketa.
So yeah- Chicago rocks! Except for their hellacious bone freezing- indescribably cold winters- which honestly is one of the biggest reasons why I can't live here, Chicago is awesome and you should be proud to live here, but DAMN is it cold! I lived in Pittsburgh my whole life, and when I moved here I thought "OH- I can hanlde a little snow. A little wind." NO! No I can't. You will never understand how cold it is until you are standing in it. Somedays I just want to die. But all in all- great city, I have to move for career reasons otherwise- Chicago would be home. So that's that!
You're a Cubs fan, so do you live in the North side. Wrigleyville? Ravenswood areas?
