Did you know they are buried above the ground there? Anywho, Bourbon Street
Actually we bury underground in vaults. But we have above ground crypts too. You have to make a below ground concrete vault. Cause if you bury in dirt you hit water after 2 or 3 feet. The big thing you see above ground is the opening. You can stack multiple coffins in them. My parents have a double. Meaning there is two different sides. My dad's last name is above one side, my grandmother's name is on the other, they purchased it together. I think they hold like 5 or 6 coffins each. But mom said, you can put more, they will just dump out the bones, but I don't think I would do that. Since they tend to take up a lot of ground, churches started building Mausoleums, buildings with slots, they normally fit two coffins, we bought one that fit 4. My mom and dad also bought one that fits two, I asked them why they said incase the family needs the crypt, well they do already have two people in the crypt, one of my sister in laws and a nephew that died. Here are some pictures. The Cement you see on top is a marker and I am sure the weight helps hold them down. But we aren't covered in dirt here for the reason of if they did we would float back up. But we aren't always buried above ground. Just FYI. Here are some pics.

Mausolum is something like this, some are inside and some are on the outside. Ours is on the Bottom, so we are close to the ground, lol.

I couldn't find a picture of a double crypt, the one with the red flowers is a single a double would have two marble fronts, the names of the buried are put on there, the pit is behind that door, it is removed and the cascet is lowered into the ground into the concrete vault below. Every year my parents hire someone to paint it. The family name is across the top.

Now these flat ones on the ground are underground in cement vaults, but the other ones that are taller are above ground. You can tell by the size.
Ok not a great subject.
