My dad gave me the same advice many, many years ago. "Always leave a job in such a way that they would hire you back--no matter how much you hate them and think you would never go back".
Your mother is right. Employers should respect a potential employee who wants to give sufficient notice--that's what they would want from you. And no matter how good the job seems, if the employer isn't willing to wait for you to do the right thing, he will probably turn out to be a very unethical employer. And then you are stuck--can't go back to the previous job or even get a good recommendation for a new one. Mother knows best. rolleyes.gif

Has anyone seen the movie ‘Bobby’ written and directed by Emilio Estevez? It was a story how the late Sen. Robert Kennedy was assassinated in the Kitchen at Ambassador Hotel in LA. There were also 22 strangers who were involved in that hotel, they were shot by Kennedy’s killer, but they survived, except the late Senator. It was very sad at the ending, and I saw his 7 kids he left. sad.gif

I was old enough to remember JFK and RFK's assasinations. They were horrible occurences. I was 5 when JFK was killed- I was home from kindergarten and saw it on TV and threw up. RFK's murder had me stunned and so very sad...same for MLK, Jr. It was a rotten time in our nation's history.

As for Paris- stay out of the rain! Enjoy it all!

I was 6. I don't remember hearing about him being shot, I just remember watching the funeral on TV. Months later I asked my sister, who was 15, if Mrs. Kennedy was still sad. She said "Yes, she cries every day." Weird what we remember.

I have a question for all you L&O smarties out there. Our hottie homicide detectives on L&O work in the 27 precinct. But how is that written? 27 Precinct? 2-7 Precinct? I saw it on the NYPD web site the other day (well the real precincts--there is no 27), but don't remember how it was written. And I don't know if its my computer, my server, or their web site, but I cannot get to it today. I was, however, able to get to the NYPD recruitiing site. I thought I could get in the back door, but no such luck. And I decided that, tempting as it is, I will have to pass on the new career opportunity. tongue.gif

I don't think they are real Precincts, Isn't SVU the 16th? but I thought they purposely used non exsisting precincts to avoid people going to them.

The police are represented in the show by the police lieutenant of Manhattans fictional 27th Precinct and two homicide detectives, a senior partner and a junior partner. The detectives investigate the crime, collect evidence and interview witnesses, then regularly report to the lieutenant. The evidence leads to the arrest of one or more suspects. The matter then is taken over by the prosecutors of the Manhattan District Attorney's office, comprising the district attorney, the executive assistant district attorney, and an assistant prosecutor. They discuss deals, prepare the witnesses, evidence, and conduct the people's case in the trial. Both the detectives and prosecutors work with the medical examiner's office, the crime laboratory, and psychiatrists from the police and district attorney offices.

No, I know they aren't real, but the real ones are numbered. I just can't remember how I saw them written on the NYPD web site. 33rd Precinct, 33 Precinct, 3-3 Precinct (I believe this was one of the real ones). I know, silly question. Its just that I've always heard them say, but don't know how its written.

I must be a baby of sorts. I wasn't thought of even in the sense of the word. My mom and dad had not even met yet. My dad was out of high school and working and my mom was a sophomore in high school. I have heard my parents tell me the story a dozen times though of where they were when it happened and what they were doing.

I was in PE in junior high when I got a message to call home. Wow lots of memories being brought back. I was in junior high too when Reagan was shot. Sophomore in high school when the Challenger was lost. I remember because there was a big announcement made over the intercoms about it and they brought all the TV's into as many classrooms as they could and scrunched us all into them and we watched for a couple of hours the developing story. I was at work when the towers were hit. I heard the announcement on the radio. That is all I listened to the rest of the day and the next couple of day. The radio station didn't play any music for 2-3 days, I don't remember now, the towers were all they talked about.

I worked for a small town Texas newspaper back in the early 90's; my Editor-in-Chief was from OKC. I can take you to the exact stretch of highway I was driving down when my fave (at the time) Christian radio station broke into a song to announce an urgent prayer request for OKC. The Murrah Federal Building had just been bombed; remember the day care with all those children? I even remember which pay phone I used at the gas station (I didn't have a cell phone then).....

Right down to the pay phone. Wish my memory was that good. My short term memory, not so good but my long term, depending on what it is, not bad. I don't remember many details, just the major ones.

I was in nursing school when the Challenger blew up. One of the students told us she heard it on the radio during a break and we all thought she was making it up.
I was getting ready for work on 9/11. I had the radio on and heard the announcement and went to turn on the TV. I had a radio at my desk at work and kept playing with it to hear more news. My supervisor brought a tiny little TV into her office and we all kept going in to watch.

Hey. Thanks. I hope that's all it is; moving. Bubba's a good guy and I'd hate to think something happened to him. I'll keep checking back to see if he's come back soon. We had some good times "fighting" over Eames. It wasn't much of a fight since I was engaged at the time and she told me I couldn't have her and Eames both, so Eames went to Bubba. I guess I am the ancient one on this forum. I don't remember exactly where I was when JFK was shot but I remember the funeral and the constant coverage on the news. A sad day. Of course The Challenger, Princess Di and the Twin Towers. When JFK jr's plane went missing I prayed for his safe return but it wasn't to be. There was a news reporter that asked a woman, who was outside the church, at his funeral, why she was there since she really didn't know him. Her reply was, I know him, I've known him since he was a little boy. That still brings a tear to my eye.

Lenore:

You're not so ancient, I think you and I are about the same age. I remember all the events mentioned, plus I go back a little further to October, 1962 and the Cuban Missile Crisis.

My Dad never had us stay home from school; but, he was worried that one of those terrible 13 days would be literally the "end of the world" /beginning of a nuclear world war; so, he wouldn't allow my sister and I to leave home.

I was in Junior High School when JFK was shot, we first got the news while I was in History Class, and, later I thought it so odd, when I saw one of the female teachers crying. Constant TV News coverage, the shooting of Oswald by Jack Ruby, and the funeral with young John, Jrs salute; are all pictures in my mind. In addition to the obvious collective traumas like the Challenger, Princess Di, several attempts to assassinate President Reagan; I also recall Bobby's Assassination (probably because it was on California Primary Election night and happened in Los Angeles); and the whole Watergate Scandal (remember Vice-President Spiro T. Agnew had resigned a few months before President Nixon did; meaning President Ford was "selected" by the President Nixon and Congress, not elected by the people; and, President Ford had to "select" a Vice-President, who also wasn't elected.) My father and grandmother were both News Junkies, so I can remember, as a child and teenager, scenes from the Civil Rights struggles in the South and elsewhere; people being beaten or having fire hoses turned on them; Live Coverage or Clips of the March on Washington and Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream Speech;" and many, many days of coverage of Anti-War (Vietnam) Activities, Women's Rights (Women's Lib) Rallies, and scenes of Cesar Chavez leading the actions to Unionize the Farm Workers for better working conditions.

It does seem, we, in our lifetimes have seen so much. Many tragedies and some real progress like with civil rights and etc. Now it looks as if we will probably have a black president. He wasn't my 1st choice but it's OK with me.
I was raised by my father but I can remember visiting my mother and my stepfather had built some kind of bomb shelter in the backyard.
I know things happen in every generation but it seems ours had an unusually large share.

We were bringing in horses from the pasture on 9/11. We had on an alternative rock station in the boarder barn, and the DJ was getting ready to tell what the next song was. Then he said, "You know what? It doesn't matter what the next song is. Get to a TV and turn it on."

We turned on the TV in the lounge and watched it for over an hour. It was, to use an OVERused term, "surreal", like a movie. I've been to ground zHero three times since 9/11, and had never been to NYC before 9/11.

I was watching CNN when the Columbia exploded on re-entry in 2003. The anchor was a small-plane pilot (Miles someone?) and he knew something was wrong way before I did.

I don't mind a black president, but I was raised with racist, and I know a lot of older adults who are racist, believe it or not, even in my life time, I was in a class with just one black boy, whoI had a crush on, and in first grade my school was an all white school, till they started busing in to make segregation complete, and a lot of people didn't send their kids to school that day, I went that day and didn't understand what the big deal was, My grandmother , God rest her soul, was a racist, every time I would tell a story about something bad, she would assume the person was black, I am not sure if its because we are in the south, if things are different in the North, I hope in time this will pass. ON the View they talk about what is worse, discrimination against Color or Women, I guess this election will tell. Can people see a Black president or a Woman President, this is the closest we have ever come, will we see either, this is history in the making, and I am a proud American to be part of it. I hope one day people will not be judged by how they look, their size, color of their skin, or their sex. One day, with interracial marriages, we will all be one color, then what will discriminate against then.

We are one people under God. Let everyone judge us by who we are, not what we look like.

That's what Jon Stewart said in his teary return to TV on The Daily Show after 9/11 (on 9/20). He said that for however long it lasted (as it turned out, not long enough), people were judged not on the color of their skin, but on the content of their character. MLK's dream realized, if only for a short time.

Hey andy, Bubba doesn't come here much anymore, i would see his name sometimes on the main list in other forums, but don't recall the names. We have had an influx of newbie's and a lot of stuff going on since the new season and lost a lot of regulars, we miss you guys, Hope everything is going ok. Hope you and your wife are doing well.

Jryan.

Hey. The only one of the old (as in former) regulars I have any contact with anymore is bug and laurengoren. I miss everyone, too, but I guess that's the way it goes. Angie and I are doing okay; thanks for asking. We've had several setbacks; the one being her dad dying suddenly. The other is my job. Last fall our company was sold. Now they are closing our plant and will put everyone out of a job.

I was reading former posts about JFK and other tragedies. I probably have you all beat with JFK. I was nowhere. When JFK died my parents were both 9 years old! When the twin towers were hit I was sitting in an English class in college. The rest of my classes that day all we did was watch TV in the classrooms.

I, too, happened to see Columbia blow up on live TV. That was wild....
I was teaching first grade on 9/11 and we had just finished giving the fall assessment. It was a beautiful day and we were going outside for recess. We knew nothing. It was around 10 o'clock my assistant principal came on the PA to say we were in a lockdown and we couldn't go outside. We didn't know why, so my instructional assistant went to find out. When she came back she told me. I'll never forget the look on her face when she re-entered my classroom. We went over to my radio behind my desk and listened as the second tower fell. We just stared at eachother in disbelief. Meanwhile, my students just sad quietly at their desks. They were barely talking. They knew something was wrong.
