Omg I just pray this is another quiet hurricane season, we are still having to buy homeowers insurance through the state, Insurance companies aren't selling insurance here, I think they started in FLa, I am not sure, Maybe FLa. people can confirm, my auto dealer said maybe next month. I am paying $3000 year, compaired to $800 pior to hurricane katrina, post Katrina, insurance company dropped us after we made our claim, forcing us to go through the state. I feel so bad for the people in China, Isn't the olympics? suppose to be in china? Could it be this Global Warming that some say doesn't exsist? Causing all of this?

I feel so bad for you. $3000 for ins. How do you manage it. It seems so unfair.
Yes. the olympics are in China but it is such a large country. I don't know if the earthquake is near where they will be. I heard on the news that so many families have lost children, and in China they have a one child per family policy, so many have lost their only child. Too sad.
I don't see how global warming could have anything to do with earthquakes and I know the earth does go thru cycles but I think our careless ways have to have some bad effect.

I so sad about China, I posted a few pages back when it happened, that my heart and prayers go out to those people, I know some Americans harbor animosity toward them, but for so many innocent to die, its so sad, as for the insurance, Luckly its divided into 4 "easy payments", lol. Those are the 4 months out of the year, we really tighten the belt, but I try to save for it all year, putting money aside, I just hope State Farm starts selling insurance next month.

Hi *bug*, good to see you! smile.gif

The earth went through a lot of drastic climate changes before we ever got here, although I'm not willing to say we don't have anything to do with the warming occurring (sp?) now.

I don't think we can blame earthquakes on global warming, tho. Unless someone has read something I haven't about the affect (effect?) of warming on the tectonic plates.

Crazy weather this year tho! Indiana usually gets a lot of heavy thunderstorms and some tornadoes, but they all seem to be tracking south this year. Maybe the jet stream is affecting them?

oh i wasn't implying that I don't believe we have anything to do with global warming or that global warming itself is a myth.. on the contrary... I was just relaying what some meteorologist are saying.. and that to me.. just like every occurance in this vast world and beyond is a mystery.. sure we can gather statistics til we die. and some one will gather statistics to squash those statsitic,. but.. everything boils down to one thing.. all we have are theories.. from creation (darwins theory that is) to global warming..greenhouse effect and on and on.. the world and all it's inhabitants are a mystery..
and always will be .. IMO

We sure have many theories floating about, *bug*. I just logged on and it seems everyone is talking about the weather. Is it just my imagination or do the natural disasters seem to be on the increase. Tornados thru out midwest, some in the east, more than the usual. Lots of hurricanes, really bad cyclones in Mayranda,[probably didn't spell that right]. Bad earthquake in China. We had an earthquake here in Mo. recently. I know there are faults in Mo. but I had never experienced an earthquake. I didn't feel this one but some not far from me did. It just seems the news is full of one disaster after another and that they are increasing in severity. Any other thoughts on this or is it just me?

Those pictures are beautiful, Kim. I have some friends who live in MI. We all lived in the Napa Valley and then OR at the same time. I haven't seen them for years. But they just called me last night and said they would be in my area the first week of June. They are going to be visiting Napa valley and will driving their 92 y/o friend down to see her friend that she hasn't seen in 50 years! And the friend just happens to live in the next town over.

KimberlyT, these pictures are absolutely beautiful and have brought back so many memories. I live in Ohio but when I was growing up my family spent our summer vacations in the Upper Pennisula of MI. I am old enough that we went even before the Mackinac Bridge was built and had to take the ferry over. We stayed at a resort in a small town called Curtis on Big Manistique Lake. I loved it up there. My oldest sister lives in northern Wisconsin (Rhinelander), about an hour from Lake Superior. It is so beautiful up there in the north woods. I've never been brave enought LOL to go to either northern MI or WI in the winter, but my sister sends pictures and, like yours, they are beautiful. Thank you for sharing your pictures and giving me a taste of nostalgia!!

Great pictures of Michigan, Kim. If I was going to go to the States, I'd probably pick Washington DC, NYC, and maybe Utah & Wyoming. Speaking of vacations my parents are in Sheffield, England for a few days visiting my uncle and other relatives before they spend the rest of their vacation in France. Then my sister is going to Hawaii for a few weeks. I'm just going to be sitting at home relaxing and wondering about how I'm going to pay my VISA bill. That's the only bad thing about quitting a job you hate: no money. sad.gif

OK, I'm jealous of Kim's pictures. There are lots of spectacular sights in CA, but I concentrated on close to home. Everyone knows about Yosemite, but not so many know about Sequoia Kings Canyon. Its not too far from me. In fact my sister and brother-in-law have 40 acres bordering the national park.

What would we be without the Giant Redwoods?

And of course, everyone has to drive through the tunnel tree!

Hills? Wow, We have to drive a long time to see hills, or mountains down here, But Bridges, hey we got a lot of those, we have so many bayous and waterways, your always crossing a little bridge here, The east and west side of town is separated by the intracostal waterway, I remember when my son was an infant, he is 25 now, we had a hard freeze, which we hardly ever get so we weren't prepared for, I had to go get him at my mom's who was on the East side, now the East side is like an island, the only place to go is the Gulf of Mexico, everything and the rest of the world is on the West side, well we made it to the East side, Well at that time their were 4 ways to get to the East side, two low lying bridges, an over pass, and a tunnel, well the tunnel was out, the overpass was frozen, the two bridges were ok for us to get over, but by the time it was time to get back they had frozen over too. The East side was cut off, from the rest of the world till morning, lol. So what did the smart Houma Government do? They torn down the two low lying bridges and built another overpass, luckly in the last 25 yrs we never had a freeze like that again. But... who knows. Luckly I live on the West side, but mom and dad are still on the East, lets hope the south doesn't go into an ice age, lol.

I've seen a projection of what kind of damage there would be if there was another earthquake on the New Madrid fault that was the same magnitude or higher than the one in 1812. It was pretty messed up.

Everything north of the Ozarks would be okay. Some might feel it, but very little or no damage. In the Ozarks there would be some structural damage. Waterlines would burst. There might not be any electricity.

Everything on the Mississippi from STL down to the bootheel would be in utter devistation, which is really, really scary when you think about it.

I am from the ozarks. I live in the upper western part, about 100 miles south of Kansas City. We would feel an earthquake but probably wouldn't be too devastating for us. The one that occured the other day was a different one from the New Madrid fault. If you are familiar with the Sac and Osage rivers, that is where I live. I used to live in the St louis area and worried about the New Madrid fault then. It would be terrible. Earthqaukes scare the heck out of me because there is no warning.

awww hope you feel better Tasha, I love homemade chicken noodle soup too, and sprinkle a little parmasan cheese on top, yummy.

Back from the Doctor, and its a boy... woohoo, lol. It's a hernia,,, Ventral hernia, and I am naming him, Bobby JR. I will need surgery, So I have an appt with surgeon on July 11, I asked doctor if it could wait, he said it was up to me, but that doctor would probably want to do test, So, since she is 3 hours away, I left a message with her nurse, told her the diagnosis, and that I would like to do the test locally through my primary care doctor, Well it's Friday, not sure if I will get a call today, but hopefully I will be able to do all the test here and then they will decide if the visit can wait till July and discuss the surgery and possibly the body lift too, oh I hope, tired of my stomach being on my thighs. Will deal with my breast later.

Thanks for all your good wishes, if I can get the surgery, maybe I will take half naked pics of me and do a before and after. lol wink.gif

Yes, try one - they're GREAT! Esp the vanilla ones with dark chocolate on the outside. They have other flavors now, but that one is the best. tongue.gif Imo.

I like the Crunch ones.

This looks like the forest surrounding the city of the ancients in FF7. I wonder if Northrend will have a zone like this when Wrath of The Lich King comes out? That would be spectacularly awesome. As a native Floridian I have never actually seen snow in person.

Albino deer. That's awesome! They're so pretty! I hope if you have a hunting season in your area they don't shoot them... I know hunting is good in moderation to keep the population controlled, but with their bright coats I'm betting it makes them bigger targets.

Did you take this one? What an amazing shot.
