Please do. But the finale did not suit me. sad.gif

Ah yes, totally romantic evening. Sitting at a table with 8 other people, discussing repairs that the church needs and are we really going to just give the Youth the money and turn them loose to paint their classroom any way they want. Makes my heart go pitter-pat. tongue.gif

Any Medical/Dental group in your church? Every year they travel from one place to another to give people medical needs and share the gospel. smile.gif

Our local church doesn't have anything like that. We are a very small congregation. But our denomination is very big on medical missionary work.

And I'll second that hooray for your cousin.

I just got back from the Nurse Appreciation Training and Lucheon. Actually, I guess Nurse Appreciation Week was last week. Our county was a bit behind. tongue.gif But the food was great. And the "training" part was interesting. Dr. John Cahill form Mount Sinai School of Medicine talked about adults and Hepatitis vaccinations. Good stuff.

omg is it out, or they never have it? I surely wouldn't shop there, ours has one, but I hardly show there, I usually just go to Walmart, groceries at the same time. I did go to target last week to buy some frames, for my daughters graduation pictures, $60 bucks for frames but they were nice. Walmarts sucked.

Why in the world would you wanna trade? I would not wanna be in 97 degree weather and if I remember correctly Valley is in CA. I don't wanna live in CA either. We had 68 degree weather today but rainy and 60 degrees tomorrow then warming up again.

Someone stole all the copper pipping on the top of our building a month ago which was for our AC. My store takes like 4323432 years to actually fix it, and they said its really expensive so they have to go through Corporate Target to get the approval.
The only time i go into Walmart is just for convenience, i always feel like i'm getting low quality products when i go there so i try to stick to Target. smile.gif

Mother Nature scares the heck out of me. CA has earthquakes of course so did we, a very mild one, a few weeks ago. Of course I don't like tornados either and we get a lot of watches and warnings but I have never seen one. I don't ever wanna see one either. I have a basement to hide in. I also don't want to live anywhere near the ocean, hurricanes. Me and mother nature don't get along so well.

Same thing down here in Louisiana -- hurricanes get advance notice. Now, tornadoes? That's a whole 'nother story. They'll tell you it looks like some could happen, then you go shelter in place in your safe place and wait for the weather man to tell you it's safe to come out again.....did that about 2 months ago and do NOT want to do that again!

We don't get earthquakes that often, i mean our last big one was almost 20 years ago...as for Hurricanes...They don't happen on the west coast, so you wouldn't have to worry about it.

It was 81 at 11:30 PM in Sacramento; and, the forecasters expect triple digits tomorrow. They said it will probably be a record-braker, as the average "daytime high" for this time of year is 81.

Sacramento tends to be pretty mild in the winter, but July and August tends to be 90-110, and I say that though I might not like it, I'll try to be happy with any temp with only 2 digits in Summer.

I agree with you Valley. I'd definitely rather take the risk of a big earthquake every 20-30 years; than a hurricane or tornado every year or two. For the record, the last big Northern California Earthquake was Loma Prieta in October, 1989; the last big Southern California Quake was Northridge in January, 1994.

I just logged on and it seems everyone is talking about the weather. Is it just my imagination or do the natural disasters seem to be on the increase. Tornados thru out midwest, some in the east, more than the usual. Lots of hurricanes, really bad cyclones in Mayranda,[probably didn't spell that right]. Bad earthquake in China. We had an earthquake here in Mo. recently. I know there are faults in Mo. but I had never experienced an earthquake. I didn't feel this one but some not far from me did. It just seems the news is full of one disaster after another and that they are increasing in severity. Any other thoughts on this or is it just me?

Can I get some recommendations? I am looking for a new general book forum in the absence of my beloved Fametracker.com. The one I'm on now just isn't doing anything for me. It's time to move on, methinks.

I am mostly a fantasy girl, but the problem is, I am very very picky with the fantasy genre. I know there's no point in joining a fantasy forum if all I'm going to be doing is convincing the other members that Terry Goodkind does not "rawk!!!" I don't want to start any flamewars; I want other people who are intelligent and appreciate good writing as well as a good plot. My second-fav is historical fiction, especially ancient Rome.

Any suggestions?

Responding to your 2nd fav. Historical fiction, ancient Rome. I was there a couple of years ago, took lots of pics. Maybe I could get them onto a cd and upload them for you.

Oh Geez those two guys from my Home town were on Dr. Phil yesterday. I don't know if yall had seen them when it hit the news, they were banned from a Chiness Buffet restaurant for eating too much. Now they are sueing, geez Dr. Phil told them they should get over it. The show was about people judging people for the way they looked. It was a good show, but seems when its people from the deep south its the worst people, they even got the woman on hidden camera appologizing and it wasn't enough for these two.

Omg I just pray this is another quiet hurricane season, we are still having to buy homeowers insurance through the state, Insurance companies aren't selling insurance here, I think they started in FLa, I am not sure, Maybe FLa. people can confirm, my auto dealer said maybe next month. I am paying $3000 year, compaired to $800 pior to hurricane katrina, post Katrina, insurance company dropped us after we made our claim, forcing us to go through the state. I feel so bad for the people in China, Isn't the olympics? suppose to be in china? Could it be this Global Warming that some say doesn't exsist? Causing all of this?

some meteorolgist say this is just a normal cycle that happens ever so often.. usually many many years apart..one of our local weather guys blogged about this.. this being his opinion and that global warming is not so much what WE are doing but is also a normal cycle thing as well.. he infuriated this chic on the weather channel and they had somewhat of a debate on CNN.. I don't know which theory is right.. I just know what's happening now.. and if you look far enough back in history.. you will see a pattern.
we are having severe weather for the third week in a row.. raining like crazy.. last year we had a horrible drought that ruined many crops and even our little garden.. so.. it's a mystery.. what can i say.. the answer is only truely known to a far more intellegent and benevolent being than ourselves.

Hi *bug*, good to see you! smile.gif

The earth went through a lot of drastic climate changes before we ever got here, although I'm not willing to say we don't have anything to do with the warming occurring (sp?) now.

I don't think we can blame earthquakes on global warming, tho. Unless someone has read something I haven't about the affect (effect?) of warming on the tectonic plates.

Crazy weather this year tho! Indiana usually gets a lot of heavy thunderstorms and some tornadoes, but they all seem to be tracking south this year. Maybe the jet stream is affecting them?

I almost forgot. On the weather/natural disaster thing. I agree with Valley. I'll take our occasional earthquakes here in CA over tornadoes and hurricanes. Those would scare me to death. I would have to quit my job and spend the entire season in the basement. tongue.gif
Oh, and Valley, I remember that SF earthquake. I was living in the Napa Valley at the time, and we felt it pretty strong there. I remember how wierd it was to watch the news on TV and see all the lights out and San Francisco completely dark.

Amen! My grandpa was actually at the Giants vs A's game when it happened. He was talking about it the other day.

so ciaddict is it really hot where you live or is the sun just hanging out over me. [89 degrees at 8 am]

Oh the game! They thought that game was probably the reason there wasn't more traffic on the bridge that collapsed (Oakland-Bay Bridge? I forget), because it was right in the middle of normal rush hour.

It's weird that it's so hot up there. It has been warm here this week, but not hot. But I hear that by the weekend we will be in the 90's. And no air conditioning in Target is just SO wrong!

I still prefer my hurricanes, call me crazy, but you get almost a month's notice, that one is brewing, you plot it on a map, you know a week in advance that it's coming, so you can prepare, and I don't think I like the idea of the earth opening up and swallowing me up, without a notice. Then I remember years ago, of hearing that one day California will eventually break off and go into the atlantic ocean, Just like my fear of the killer bees coming from Central America in the 80s and that didn't turn out like the movie's said it would, lol. But I guess it's what we are used to, Andrew was the worst one I have lived through, we evacuated for katrina, but for the ones that stayed here, they say in Houma it wasn't that bad, ( I don't live in a flood zone) we had some wind damage, lost some siding, lost my pool, lost a side of the fence, damaged our garage door, that's about it. Andrew hit our old house, I think we were hit with a tornado with that one, while in the house, we were in the closet, with two young children at that time, our garage cover was ripped off, pulling wires out of the fuse box( which we didn't know at the time, my mom's house wasn't damaged and still had electricity, we were out for a week, so we moved in with her, but hubby forgot to disconnect fuse box, so when they turned our electricity back on, when we weren't home, our house caught fire, luckly a neighbor notice flames, and called firedepartment, who saved our cat who was still in house, only the kitchen where the fuse box was, was totally distroyed. Luckly we weren't asleep in the house when it happened., But you could hear the smoke alarms going off, they did work.

On the next note, Going to doctor tomorrow to find out if this large lump in upper abd is a hernia, from surgery two years ago. Will let yall know what I find out. Sad I am hoping it is. But hoping I can put off surgery till I lose another 40 lbs. So I can get the body lift I need, another 40 lbs would put me at 220 lbs lost.

But tornadoes are here and gone in a matter of seconds, and they have a hit-and-miss pattern of destruction, not like an earthquake where everything moves, and you have aftershocks. blink.gif

omg is it out, or they never have it? I surely wouldn't shop there, ours has one, but I hardly show there, I usually just go to Walmart, groceries at the same time. I did go to target last week to buy some frames, for my daughters graduation pictures, $60 bucks for frames but they were nice. Walmarts sucked.

I never go to Wal-Mart if I can help it. They treat the workers like crap.

WE don't get hurricanes every year. At least not ones that come ashore. You know WAY ahead of time that they're coming, and most of them amount to an oversized thunderstorm, rather than the city leveling category 5s that Katrina was. I recall leaving FL to go to Atlanta when Katrina was passing over Miami, and worrying about if it would be too bad to drive to my friend's house in Orlando that night. Checking the TV when we got to the hotel to see what it had become in the Gulf was frightning. One shift and it could head right back to us... No shift and the west side of the Gulf was going to get a major beat down. Fortunately, super hurricanes like that happen very rarely.

Freakin' hormones!!!! Between them and quitting smoking I guess, I've gained at least 40 lbs.

I'll still take hurricanes and snowstorms here in New England. Hurricanes if they make it this far north which is rare don't have much left once they get here. Snow storms you know are coming and if they're going to be bad you just stay home. Tornadoes scare me because they are so random.

I found this very interesting:

The U.S. Natural Hazard Statistics provide statistical information on fatalities, injuries and damages caused by weather related hazards. These statistics are compiled by the Office of Services and the National Climatic Data Center from information contained in Storm Data, a report comprising data from NWS forecast offices in the 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.

Now you understand me. I live in Illinois. I felt that earthquake a few weeks ago and it was NOT fun. Scared me. I just don't like Mother Nature at all. Any of it but I live with what she dishes out at me.

This is interesting. Note the correlation with the increase in heat to hurricanes, tornados and extreme temps and wind. I am all for doing what I can to stop global warming.
