I quit cold turkey. 2.5 packs to 0 in one day. That was 20 years ago. I still crave, but would never smoke again. Quit is quit, not temporary stop...

I chewed straws and swizzle sticks, but what really worked for me was having a white pencil the size of a smoke, and I would use it like a cig- flick it, hold it, draw off it, put it out, etc. I carried it for a long time. The oral fixation was satisfied as was the psychological component.

Was it silly looking? Sure, but watch smokers. Gray smoke coming out of a mouth is weird looking.

GOOD LUCK!!!! One day at a time and don't let it beat you.

thanks for the advice .. its only been 2 hours i think since i smoked the last cig in the pack soo im good for now ... even tho i just ate a cookie and i always smoke after i eat ANYTHING and i am starting to think about smokeing ... which sux ..

I love mecha. Power armor is one of those things that I just can't live without. Maybe I'll slip off to an early show today, since we're not having our usual Sunday guests.

Well I was only on the Paxil for a short time many years ago. It totally turned me off to drug therapy too. I know it's very helpful to some people, but I don't think it's a good fit for me.

The place isn't 100% yet since I still have to meet with the condo association to make it final. It's like a homeowners association (which I despise BTW. People shouldn't be able to tell you what to do on your own land. HOAs: Contributing to the total homogenization of America!), but for a condo.

In more happy news, I'm down another pound this week, breaking the 10 in 2 months mark! I'm right on my goal of 5 pounds per month.

Hey Janx, I work for a property management company in PA - we manage condos, townhomes, hoas and the like. If you need help let me know. (If it's any consolation, I agree abou the who telling people how to live thing - I've got an owner wanting to lease out his unit and the Rental Committee of the building is turning the tenant down for bad credit. NOW - if the tenant had to pay the condo any money, I could understand this but it's the owner collecting the rent and the owner taking the risk. So what right does the Rental Committee have to turn the tenant down? jmo but too much control makes people power hungry)

Congrats on your weight loss - can you put me on your plan? cool.gif

Good luck, tasha - I've never smoked but if this will help, my mom passed away from emphysema due to years and years of smoking (50+ years). I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Oh boy! I just hung up on a client's wife. I don't think I've ever done that before. And I've been called names before. But she said that I lied and I just kinda saw RED! I said, "I LIED?!" And she kept going on and on, so I said, "I'm hanging up now, Ma'am. Thank you."
Then I went a 'fessed up to my supervisor for when she gets a call complaining about me. She asked me, "Were you nice about it?" laugh.gif

The hardest cigarette for me to give up was the one I had when driving, I love the commercials they are doing now, about learning how to do things all over again without smoking, I used to light up the min. I got in the car, and that was the hardest thing to do was to learn to drive without a cigarette, lol.

Talking about Cinco DE Mayo, we went eat out Mexican yesterday, my daughter who is 18, wanted a Virgin Drink, she hates alcohol, and the drinking age is 21, and you have seen pictures she doesn't at least to me, look 21, They brought her a drink loaded with Tequila, we didn't say anything, my husband drank it, since I already had a drink, she just got a diet coke instead, she didn't want another one, then they forgot our appetizer, When I got home, I was so sick from my food, needless to say, we wont be going back there. It was one of our favorites, guess they were having a bad day.

That's really what I didn't want to hear... Thanks to previously mentioned hospital w/ no insurance bills, my credit is craptastic. Otherwise I only have two tickets to my name in my whole life that could be called a "record" of any kind. Neither was for speeding BTW. Careless driving cause I bumped someone while looking at a garage sale when I was 19, and improper lane change when I got lost on the turnpike and I pulled into a truck trying to get away from the exit ramp I was stuck on.

AS for my plan... Eat 1200 calories per day, with one meal per week anything you want. Feel no guilt, listen to your body, don't deprive yourself. There are no bad foods, only bad portion sizes. Drink 1/2 gallon of water everyday. That seems like a lot, but that's your recommended "8 glasses" per day. 1 glass is a cup. 1 cup = 8oz. 8 cups = 64oz which is 1/2 gallon. I have an old 32oz soda cup I keep on my desk at work, so I fill it up when I come in and refill it when it's empty.

I think the hardest part is getting started. Once you start getting into a routine of not having them for a few weeks, it'll probably get better. I really can't say though, when I quit smoking it's because I first started smoking cloves for a while which then made regular cigs taste HORRIBLE. I didn't smoke that much because the cloves were so dense, and then I just kinda tapered off without really realizing it. After I hadn't smoked for a while at all, I found the cloves irritated my sinuses too much to bother with anymore. After getting the nasty taste of regular cigs I never touched them again. I suppose I was never really addicted to them, cause I went without for a while once (in the middle) and it wasn't a big deal.

Good luck and despite my lack of first hand knowledge about it, I'm here to give you support if you need it.

And who says not a lot can happen in a week.... I go away and leave you lot for a week and what happens..... well lots and lots and lots!!!!

I am stil catching up on the other threads but thought I would just peek in here to see how people were (army plans, houses found, quiting smoking, just to mention a few, and people...... wow). I went off to see the relatives in Holland and was happy to see that it was still small, flat and punctual. It was good to see my little nieces again (they are 2 and 4) and was able to catch up with an uncle and aunt or two as well.
However, I am happy to be back in the UK and in my own flat. Is it just me or do other people have this as well. I have lived on my own for long time and find I am...ehm.... how shall I put this, not very good at living with other people. All their little idiosinchrasies really get on my nerves after about 2 days and I get cranky and feel the need to "run for the hills" which of course I cannot do (thre are none in Holland and I am staying with family so...). Anyway, got through it and can now "happily" go back to work tomorrow.. as you can imagine I am REALLY looking forward to that.

Do have some really good snacky bits still to finish off!!! Licorice, very rich butter cakes... oh make can they bake over there!!!!

Catch you all later!!

Ok, here's my real life drama right now......

My son's Cub Scout Pack has quickly devolved into chaos. We have one leader who tries to run everything, then attacks anyone who has a different opinion (she even cussed at us in a recent email). Every email this person sends out is in all caps and twice the normal font size (thus she's yelling at us everytime she sends out an email)

Well, our Cubmaster (the guy in charge) finally got tired of it, and quit yesterday. My hubby talked to the committee chair and express his concerns over this other leader who yells and cusses. The committee chair said she would think about what he said.

Then I get home tonight, and in my email is a email from this person, saying basically 'sorry, I was told I offended some people' but we're doing this. She signed it as the new Cubmaster.

So my choices are down to this: pull my son out of scouts, find a new pack or put up with it for the next two years until my son is done with Cub Scouts and crosses over into Boy Scouts.

I don't know what I'm going to do, but I really just need to talk to someone, and the hubby's at work soooooo HELP!

Oh, do I know how you feel. Been there fore sure.

As my husband always says, "Who's problem is it?" It is your son's Cub Scout troup not yours. IS your son having a problem wiht the group?

We had the same problem with baseball. Coach played all his favorites. Asked his son every inning "Where would you like to play this inning?" Never sat him out. But, my son loved baseball and his friends on the team.

So, you might have to do what we had to do. We became parents that we swore we never would. We un-volunteered for everything to do with the team. We showed up for games. Stopped helping out at practices, snack shack, you name it. It killed us to be uninvolved, but the only thing that mattered in the long run was that he wanted to be there. Left him totally out of our problem with the team.

Don't help with the pinewood durby, popcorn, etc. It sucks to say it, but due only what's best for your son. There will be a million other chances to help out in other groups, sports, etc. Live and learn from this one.

It's sad that this happens at this age for you.

Good luck.

In celebration of Cinco de Mayo...

I'm going to go eat a Hot Dog.

KimT's dachshunds growl...grrrr... hot dogs...grrrrr!!!!

Thoughts for the day...

1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE
ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.

2. AVOID ARGUMENTS WITH THE FEMALES ABOUT LIFTING THE TOILET SEAT BY
USING THE SINK.

3. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED
FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS.

REMEMBER TO
USE A TIMER.

4. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM
ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.

5. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES.
THEN YOU'LL
BE AFRAID TO COUGH.

6. YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE.
IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40.
IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.

7. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL
PROBLEM.

Have a Great Week!

~: ) <---Does my hair look funny like this?

Words more true have never been spoken!!! I'm going to B&Q his weekend to get my supplies of WD40 and Duct tape.
At least then you can fix something unlike my dad who used to have 70 boxes of nails, screws and bits and pieces and whenever he needed to put up a picture he needed to go and buy some.

Words of wisdom!!!,, and it made me chuckle.

I especially liked that one, too. I told my coworkers I'm going to print that one up and put in my cubicle. It's right up there with "If its not chocolate, what's the point" as a motto for life. laugh.gif

Good luck.

I think that sounds like a good idea.

Just had to share this one that my daughter sent me. I'm not too far off from this, I think!

OLD FRIENDS:

[b]Now this one is just too Precious...LOL!

Two elderly ladies had been friends for many decades. Over the years, they had shared all kinds of activities and adventures. Lately, their activities had been limited to meeting a few times a week to play cards. One day, they were playing cards when one looked at the other and said, "Now don't get mad at me .. I know we've been friends for a long time, but I just can't think of your name! I've thought and thought, but I can't remember it. Please tell me what your name is."

Her friend glared at her. For at least three minutes she just stared and glared at her. Finally she said, "How soon do you need to know?"

And another.

DRIVING
Two elderly women were out driving in a large car - both could barely see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red, but they just went on through. The woman in the passenger seat thought to herself "I must be losing it. I could have sworn we just went through a red light." After a few more minutes, they came to another intersection and the light was red again. Again, they went right through. The woman in the passenger seat was almost sure that the light had been red but was really concerned that she was losing it. She was getting nervous. At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was red and they went on through. So, she turned to the other woman and said, "Mildred, did you know that we just ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us both!"
Mildred turned to her and said, "Oh, crap, am I driving ?"

I neeeeddd someone to talk to!

For a while now, my family and I have thought I had a very mild form of autism. There were signs: I avoid eye contact and other activities. I was always okay with it; I felt I had a sympathetic connection to the autism spectrum community at large, even though my case is fairly mild.

Well, today we got a new diagnosis. It turns out I'm not autistic! My behavior stems from OCD; my eye contact problem comes from low self-esteem. Now. . . it feels so wierd. My father said, "You wanted to be autistic?" Well, that would be a strange thing to admit to but . . . I feel like I've lost a part of my identity.

Or am I overreacting here?

I'm autistic. I have ausburgers. I am alos bipolar, With both of my disorders I tend to get angry very easily. So that's my disorder story. I was digonosed sometime late last year. (i know I don't know how to spell.) And I was declared Bipolar... I really don't knwo when. That why Im so obbesessed with my story and can't stop thinking about it. I also sometimes do "handflapping" Morganfee

So I read. Didn't want to comment on it earlier. I do smoke but hubby is going to doctor on Friday and is going to ask doctor for a script for me to help me quit too. I guess in this day and age, I need to. Just didn't want to post anything here about it. Didn't want people looking down on me. Gee I guess I already did. I am prepared.

I do need to go mothers day shopping sometime this week. Work has been killing me lately but my overtime is done for a couple of weeks. We are going to see Ironman tomorrow after I get off work. I have heard good things. We don't go to the theatre for a movie unless it is really good. Costs too much.

im quiting for many reasons but the biggest reason is my dog is allergic to it and sam ( my BF) hates it .. always has hated it .. i just finally got tired of him saying " you smell like smoke " every time i tell him he smells nice .. haha
