I have 3 cats, 1 eats treats the other 2 don't. The same one that eats treats loves chicken meat. This cat knows when we are having chicken for supper. He will sit on the floor and just look at you until you give him some meat off the bone. Weird cat but he's my lap cat. My cats don't drink milk either, just water. I read somewhere that milk is not good for cat's intestines. Gives them diarrhea. Not sure where I read it, but I know I read it somewhere. As you can see I am a cat person, no dogs in my house. I could not handle the walking 2-3 times a day and bathing and such. Cats just give them a litter box and they are good and they bathe themselves. Yeah, I am lazy, no not lazy, just work too much, no time.

KimberlyT, loved the steps for giving a cat meds and a dog too. Never had to give a cat a pill but I don't think I want to try now. I have given our cats liquid medicine which is much much easier.

I read somewhere that most cats become lactose intolerant as they age into adulthood. I know for a fact that my little Tasha doesn't like milk and you never EVER give Dende anything dairy or shall thee suffer greatly at the foul stench of the vapors from his digestive tract. My roommate let him lick his plate one time after he'd had alfredo sauce... Later he said that if they ever needed a sure-fire bio weapon, they could take Dende, feed him dairy and let him go in the enemy bunker. That would be sure to have them running out in no time. Needless to say, he made sure there was never a repeat of that.

Just needed to vent this one on you guys... my mum has had the full load already but I am still not sure what to make of this.

While I am sorry for your situation and totally feel for you, I'm also equally heartened and dismayed that this sort of thing isn't just something that happens in American offices.

I work for a small local company that has recently hired a new member of staff in my department. let's call her Jess. She was going to be working closely with me but my "supervisor" was going to be in charge of her and be her line manager. So, like I said, I was going to be workig closely with her on a daily basis and she was going to take some of my workload so I could take over someone else's work. Now, I had sort of picked up on a vibe that she wat not really investing in the job, you know how you can tell that people go to work somewhere and not really make on effort to get to know you??!! Well anyway I thought that maybe that is just the way she likes to work so that is fine with me. She also had a few meetings with our department head and he never told me what was going on, which he will usually do if it involves me so I thought nothing of it. Last Monday at the end of the day one fo the project managers I work with says to me... "so I heard that Jess was leaving, do you know anyting about this??" ad I was like "Nope, not a thing". So he says "Oh I guess that was just something I misheard then".... I don't really think anything of it ofr the rest of the morning. Then my dept. head asks me.. "Has your supervisor talked to you about stuf", and I am like "What stuf" and he is cagey and sort of makes light of it "you know, just work things and stuff". So I tell him no-one has talked to me about anything. By this time something starts to niggle in the back of my head and I hate it when this happens. The next day... my supervisor is off and the day goes as normal. Then, when I get in in the next morning (Wednesday) one of the other project managers comes up to me and whispers in my ear "you need to know that it is very likely that the new girls Jess will be leaving tomorrow. But do not mention it to anybody"!!!!!!!! So officially I know nothing, unofficially I know she is leaving. She comes in and tells me nothing acts like all is okay. My supervisor comes in and acts normally and tells me nothing. At some point in the morning by head of dept corners me in the kitchen and asks me again if my supervisor has talks to me about work and Jess I still have to tell him "nope". He then asks me if I have heard anything about her and I admit to him that I have heard a rumour about Jess leaving (I hate to lie about that sort of thing). He then tells me that my supervisor knows about this and has for the past 4 days!!!!!!! And that he told him to tell me what is going on...which he had not. So when I get bak to my desk I am slightly annoyed. Then we happen get to talking about holidays and I happen to mention that I will be working over Christmas this year as Jess said she might want that time off. Jess says nothing, my supervisor says... you got it, nothing (he could have taken me aside and explain but nothing!!!). Now I am kind of a bit upset as I now that he knows and he is not telling me anything. I continue with my work and lo and behold about two hours later, when Jess is on lunch my supervisor fesses up that Jess is leaving. I admit that I had already heard a rumour and he jsut sort of mumbles his way out of it and goes " yeah so we will have to see how we resolve this". Apparently did not want it made pulic and wanted to jsut leave and not let anybody know but really... give me some credit I am perfectly capable of keeping a secret like that. I would never betray a confidence like that if someone asked me to.
It just really pissed me off that he had at least two days to tell me about the fact that she was leaving and he did nothing!!!!

Oh and then to top it off the day after he goes "Oh and by the way this one auditor that we have, you will need to keep his schedule light and only let him do jobs around London". Which he tells me AFTER I have done all the schedules for the coming week, no time or opportunity to change them and have already got the guy going WAY outside London!!!! GGGGRRRRRR. How am I supposed to do my job if he does not tell me things like that. We are supposed to be wotking to gether to schedule engineers and auditors. This is not the first time he has done things like this to me but these two in short succession really got to me.

Tell me I am not insane to want some kind of dialogue?????

Thanks for listening

Hubby and I went to NYC this weekend. I said to search for VDO, he said to go to museums. It was our first time without kids in 20 years (so pathetic). We got to our nice hotel with the king size bed (we have a full), turn on TV and what's on, yep Criminal Intent. My husband said "Is there no getting away from that man?". Well, in a word "No".

I secretly kept looking for VDO in a crowd. Every time we saw a street closed off, I wanted to go see if they were filming.

We did go to the NBC store. No new stuff. I already have everything with Criminal Intent on it. I thought the travel mug said criminal intent, no, just L&O. The display was moved from the last time I was there in the Fall. I thought to a better, more visible space.

We walked in Central Park. I kept trying to remember all the scenes filmed in the Park (to myself).

We did have a lovely time though. All kids and animals survived at their various places for the weekend. I hope we can do it again.

I have NEVER been to NYC...you are so lucky. I would be doing all the things you said too, driving the hubby bonkers probably pointing things out...haha. I grew up in a tiny town..very, very tiny, so the big city thing has always made me a bit nervous, but for some reason...okay, for one reason...VDO, I would LOVE to visit NYC!

I do not give any of my pets milk...but Macy the cat likes to sit on the back of the chair near the desk and if I am eating cereal of having a glass of milk and she smells it, she acts like a baby trying solid food for the first time. ::ack:::...its kinda funny. She even does it with cheese! She is a strange cat, she likes to sleep with us all night, play in the day...she washes our smaller doxies constanly, like she is its mother...and she is sooo lovable. I have never had a cat lay on her back in my arms and purrrr, like she does. She doesn't even mind her nails being clipped or taking a bath. As long as I hold her one paw while I bathe her, she is just fine. And she hardly ever meows. She purrs so loud you can hear her 2 rooms away, but she seldom meows unless she really wants your attention.

My cats sleep and are up at all different times. My black cat has never had a bath, cause she always keeps herself cleaned up, but my white cat got outside sometimes when he was small and rolled around in the dirt, coming back as a grey cat. Since he would immediately want to jump up and sit on me when he came back in, I had to give him a bath. He HATED it. Sadly it also made him hate anything to do with water. I tried to put a flea spray on him once and he liked to kill himself trying to twist away from us. Luckily we were able to kill the fleas in the house to solve the problem since he didn't go outside anymore.

Your cat sounds like a real sweetheart, washing the dogs and taking a bath quietly.

hahahah...actually that is some of my fondest memories...keeping my baby nephew for the nights and giving him bath...something about the quiet time, the smell of him all clean from the bath, the little smiles as I washed him, his expression while he was feeling the water...made me wish he was mine.

I didn't mind that. What I mind know is: "Do I have to?" "AWWWWW! I'm not done with my tv show/computer game/whatever!" "MOOOOOOM! I'm ready!" (The Princess, 6, needs help with her long hair.)

Has anyone seen the video that was on this mornings, "The Today Show?" Watch the show if you are home to this morning. Its extremely disturbing.

A group of teen girls trapped & spent 30 minutes beating & screaming at a former friend who they say posted negative comments about them on MySpace. They are all cheerleaders at a High School in Florida.. Two guys kept watch outside.

The girl suffered a concussion, two black eyes & her ear is messed up. I couldn't believe it. And they were going to post the video on MySpace. After they were arrested, the girls were laughing....they had no remorse. sad.gif

And the worst...one of the mom's of one of the abusers actually spoke with Matt Lauer. somehow blaming the attacked girl who posted the comments. And of course she claims that her daughter was innoent. Meanwhile it was her daughter who lured the girl to her attack. mad.gif

This really sickens me. Sorry to vent.

Welcome to our modern world. There's little that surprises me anymore. The entitlement factor, the my baby can no wrong, and the cutthroat tactics of teen social structures all combine to end up with things like this. I remember people getting punched at school for saying stuff about other people, and it's only gotten worse as more and more parents have stopped actively raising their kids and relying on others to do it for them. As for posting the video of the beating? It humiliates the person they feel wronged them and serves as a warning to others. They have effectively proven their power and so feel secure and strong against anyone else who dares to cross them. Or just disagree. Or maybe just doesn't like them. Whatever. Through some strange alchemy of society today, many people, especially younger people, feel their social standing is a life or death struggle and act accordingly to maintain their place in the pack and their right to advance in life.

Please don't blame video games, TV/movies, music, etc... There is more to it than a simple point and click. It is a complex working indeed, and though it's one I've mused on, I still don't have a solid theory as to why. I think the mother of the attacker defending her daughter speaks volumes about the possible causes. Also the "no remorse" thing could be deceptive. If they were all being held together, there was no way they'd show that kind of perceived weakness in front of their peers. It would undermine everything that they were just trying to prove. In private it could be that they were sorry for what they had done, after the rush of the moment had worn off. Remember, newspapers don't just report the news, they're trying to draw as many readers as they can. Shocking, disturbing, and sensational writing is what sells papers, not necessarily the truth.

PS. Florida seems to be the most messed up state of all, so I'm not surprised that it happened here. Or with cheerleaders.

This all has to do with the decline over the last 30 to 40 years of personal responsibility and respect in our societies. We had a saying in HIGH SCHOOL called "03:10 at the buses" where if you wanted to settle something 2 people settled it and it was done (and in most caes you were friends after). Somewhere in the last 30/40 years the GANG MENTALITY evolved where today if you wrong 1 person you suddenly wrong 10, 12 , or more. All of this crap could have been stopped by proper (and corrective) punishment for the offenders but this seems to have been lost by the wayside. We in CANADA have a set of useless laws called "THE YOUNG OFFENDERS ACT" and it basically allows anyone under 16 to do what they want without much recourse. UNBELIEVEABLE!! Where did it all go wrong?

I agree this is the main reason. There are other secondary and tertiary factors, but this is the big one, right along with parents not being themselves responsible for their kids.

I absolutely agree with you and OG. This is such a sad and scary case. I have a client who is about 20. When he was 12, he was beaten nearly to death by a group of 14 year olds. I think there were 5. My client is severely brain damaged: unable to speak, walk, sit alone, fed by tube. The boys were sentenced to juvenile facilities, with the ring leader getting boot camp until he was 18. My client's mother told me that at the sentencing, the mother of the ring leader cussed her out for asking for "ruining" her son's life. My client's mother told her, "I would much rather have my son in the condition he is in now, than to know that I have a son who is capable of doing something like this to another human being." This is an amazing family. They have him at home and they take him with them when they go to restaurants to eat, they take him camping. The parents divorced (sad), but the dad spends a lot time helping to take care of him, spending the night and so on.
Oh, and the ringleader? He was released when he turned 18 and six months later he beat a man to death and is now in prison for life.

I totally agree, OG - the parents need to be held responsible for the acts of their children. I have a 21 year old son who was taught early in life to stand up for what was right and NOT to fall in with a group of kids just to be cool. He is a volunteer firefighter, an EMT and I am proud of the compliments I receive on what a fine young man he is.

We need to go back to the values that we had when we were kids - if you messed up, your parents dealt with you - either right on the spot or at home. The embarrassment of being punished in public was enough to keep me on the straight and narrow. AND if we should somehow commit such an unspeakable act - we were force to face the consequences for our actions.

To go back to those much better times would be a blessing to all of us.

Totally agree Janx - the parents should be held as responsible as the kids for the actions and punished in kind.

Talk about the good and the bad - the family that is taking care of their son is truly wonderful. My thoughts and prayers to them and their son.

I get confused - I know I've posted at ValCat but I lose track of where else I've been in my quest for VDO heaven, I could pop up anywhere. This is still home, though. smile.gif

I turned in a case to my supervisor last week that she has not returned to me yet. It is a new application that was denied by another nurse. But our Fair Hearings officer and I looked and looked and found a loophole that will let us grant this application. But my supervisor is dragging her feet because she doesn't think this person (its a child) should be eligible. I'm getting a little frustrated. But in the end I know she is going to have to give in. I've got the state regulations on my side--I can take her! laugh.gif

Well my night was just wonderful. Just got back from the emergency room. My daughter came home from work in pain. She has a 2nd degree burn on her arm. It was not a pretty sight. It is now blistering and very swollen. I called her doctors line and they said "get her to the hospital" so that's what I did. The hospital gave her a shot for the pain and some cream to put on it and wrapped up her arm. She told me she was putting hot water in the bucket to mop the floor and spilled it on her arm. Scalding water, no less. At least I don't have to pay for any of this. Her work will pick up the tab on this one. Thank goodness, all I need is more bills. Sure you don't wanna trade lives with me, Judy.

I hope you're daughter's OK, cifan70 - burns are nasty. Keep a close eye on it so it doesn't get infected (that can happen easily with a burn). I can send the son over to help, he's an EMT. (And you don't need to send him back anytime soon - honest, keep him as long as you need him. No, seriously, it's OK. Really ..........)

My roommate learned to stop terrorizing my cat by getting a pot of boiling water and pasta poured over his arm.

He like to scare my cat away from him cause he's allergic to cats, but he was OK as long as the cat wasn't on top of him. Well one day the cat was hiding under the sink while he was cooking his lunch. He had done such a good job making the cat afraid of him that when he went to drain the pasta, the cat BOLTED out from the cabinet, hitting him in the legs with the door, which caused him to up-end the pot right over his forearm.

So I got to see the results when I got home from work after my other roommate had taken him to the emergency room. They gave him a cream and pain pills too and told him to cover it loosely with bandages for a week.

He has since made friends with the cat. The cat will let himself be petted, and even held, but he knows not to be too touchy feely.

PS. He never did anything physical to the cat, just made noises and faces at him to chase him off.
