We're forecast for 'light snow showers' here in the UK tomorrow.

Hubby is allergic to cat dander too, which my little girl isn't happy about because she would love a kitten. And wouldn't you know, cats adore my allergic hubby too, go figure...

I love books. I have to curb my spending habits because i could bankrupt myself on them easily. I love to read, i love to just lose myself in a well written plot, i love the smell, touch and feel of a new book with crisp new pages. My little girl has inherited my love of books, i had hoped that one of my kids would because i believe being able to read opens up the imagination so much. She loves the Guinness Book of Records, any kind of encyclopedia type books, any knowledge type books and she's just discovering the world of Roald Dahl (we're currently reading The BFG, she loved the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory books as well as The Witches and we hope to start Matilda soon too) and she has also discovered Dr Seuss too.

I'm having laptop problems. My battery icon keeps popping up when i'm using the battery charger. We thought it was the charger and replaced it but the same problem is reoccuring so i think its actually the laptop or the battery itself that's causing the problem. My laptop is 15 months old and has all my fics on it, so i'm going to start backing them up before it goes kaput. sad.gif Not a happy bunny about that at all mad.gif

Yay another "Booker" on the boards!!!!!

I know what you mean about not trying to bankrupt yourself on them. Nowadays I try ti find a balance between buying them second hand (onyl if they are still failry nice looking copies, they only cost me a few pounds each), buying 3 for two's (but then you have to be able to find 3 that you want or getting them off the net as they are cheaper there.

I love reading crime/mysteries and am building a collection of ghost story books (All in all I have about 30 of them so far... and have just found a website where they have some that are second hand and dirt cheap!!!!). Also like my classics (Dickens, Austen etc) and historical novels (I don't mean the soppy romances but a story set in the past, so you learn about how things were at that time.
At the moment I am reading The Boys From Brazil/Ira Levin and have To the Lighthouse/Virginia Woolf to get into next.

I can remember reading books from as soon as I could read and envying my sister that she got to go to school and learned to read. I have lots of them in storage at my mum's at the moment and on the last count I had about 75 around at the moment... aquired over the past 4 years.

I just started reading the books like 2 weeks ago. I don't think i have ran across Timothy Zahn yet.
I'm absolutely obsessed with Han/Leia--they are just so dang cute.

I will read anything I can get my hands on. My book case is full and I have taken to stacking books in my bedroom. My oldest sister and I trade back and forth. I always have a book in progress at one time or another. My son was never a reader and I couldn't understand why not. I finally got him interested in Larry McMurtry and he's working his way into other authors. I love when he calls to tell me he's at Borders or Barnes and Nobles. smile.gif

I'm sorry it had to be like this.

Valley, was it something we said? Did we not give you the attention you need? Did we fail to make you feel loved and important? I have to ask, were they--were they better than we were? Maybe we could get some counseling? I know we can work this out, this relationship is too important to lose it over a cheap, one-night stand! sad.gif

I LOVE Larry McMurtry. I think Lonesome Dove is my all-time favorite book. I read it about once a year. No matter how many times I've read it, the descriptions and dialogue just make me cry every time. I'm not sure why, but I like his westerns more than his modern-day novels. Gosh, that reminds me. I think its been over a year since I read Lonesome Dove--now, where is that book?

Ok, the titles are Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising & The Last Command. These three books started the Star Wars book explosion--but two major characters are married and expecting, plus you meet another future spouse, hmmmm I better leave it at that since I wouldn't want to give the books away. . .

Anybody else having any wacky weather? We had 73 degrees yesterday. Today it is in the 30's and very windy and we are under a winter storm watch until tomorrow night and tomorrow we are supposed to get 6-8 inches of snow. Weird March weather. Haven't seen the rest of the week yet. It could be 70 again by Thursday and the snow will be gone for all I know.

Have you read Commanche Moon? It's supposed to take place after Dead Man's Walk and before Lonesome Dove - absolutely mesmerizing. I couldn't put it down and it gave you more insight into Gus and Woodrow, along with Newt's mother, Maggie.

I think that is March. I know the south is getting some pretty strong storms right now...if any of you live in LA, Miss, or GA, I hope everything is ok.
On another note, speaking of cats, there was a cat at my backdoor this afternoon. He/She didn't have a collar but didn't look like a stray. It was really clean and its coat was in good shape. I checked with my neighbor, who has lots of cats, to see if one got out, but her husband said it was just a stray that his wife had been feeding. So I gave it some food and then it left. Cute little visit from the feline though. Funny, too, since we have a lot of cyber cats!

Yeah I guess it is March. Didn't know about the south getting storms.

Nice story about the cat. We have a neighbor who has a cat that roams from home to our porch and sometimes sleeps on my car or under my car. I have to check under my car every morning before I leave to make sure the cat isn't there. Don't want to run the poor thing over. I couldn't do it anyway having 3 myself.

Tonight was Women's Dinner at my Mom's. My sister made dinner--although it was our niece's turn to cook, but she and our older sister had this long story about why they couldn't come tonight, so my middle sister had to make dinner. Boy, did she make sure we all knew that it wasn't her turn to cook! But then she is the middle child--they always have to do all the work, right? I was talking to her daughter about it and I said that since she has been the middle child for 50 years now, she really ought to be used to doing all the work and just quit complaining! laugh.gif But she made a good dinner: Chicken-Apple Salad (sounded gross to me, but it was yummy!) and French Bread. And Chocolate Banana Pie for dessert (also sounded gross, but was delicious). Now everyone else has left, and I really need to get home, too. 'Night all.

They're so goofy together it's cute. The writing has some strange lines but they make them work. That didn't really happen in the new trilogy. Goofy lines (i.e.I'm haunted by the kiss that you should never have given me.) were present and came off as...goofy instead of cool like when Han says stuff. (I actually tried to find a line that came off as goofy for him and I just couldn't. I laughed a lot looking at wikiquote but no goofy lines to be found.) Leia has some weird lines like "my hands are dirty".

"My Hands are dirty"
"My hand are dirty too, what are you afraid of?"
"afraid?"
"Your trembling."
"I'm not trembling."
"You like me because i'm a scoundrel, there aren't enough scoundrels in your life."

Yes, the dialogue in the original Star Wars may have been somewhat bad, but at least Leia and Han had chemistry, like everyone said. Annika and Padme had no chemistry whatsoever IMO in the prequals. Oh, and the dialogue? "I love you because you're beautiful." Um thanks, but I'd really hoped there was a more substantial reason... When I heard that (not to mention other awful lines) I had to remind myself that I'd paid good money for the movie and so should watch the entire thing.

Speaking of movies, I must go and watch Shrek for class before work tonight.

I LOVE books, too! Just finished reading John Grisham's "Playing for Pizza"; if you're a football and/or Italy fan, you'll love this book. It's along the lines of "The Bleachers" and "Skipping Christmas": not a legal thriller. I've just started on his other new book, "The Appeal". Other faves: Tom Clancy, Harry Potter series, Narnia series, Robin Cook, Patricia Cornwell......

My kids are HUGE book fans as well. They each have 2 overflowing bookcases in their rooms, there's one in the guest room, one in our master bedroom, books in the drawers of my bedside dresser......I've got some saved in the attic, donated others to Goodwill, the church, friends.......I love giving books away instead of throwing them away.

I'm 50/50 on whether I print out stuff or just read it on-line. Depends on my mood.....

Aren't books wonderful?

Books are amazing things. The library was my haven as a child and as a teen. My gram was a nurse, so when I stayed with her I would read her nursing books, anatomy books and her PDR. I checked out every animal encyclopedia our library carried. I was so into learning how everything worked. My favorite storybooks when I was really young were the Black Stallion series. I was a bit of a horse freak. I still love them smell of the library or an old book store. Its comforting and feels safe to me somehow. I have a huge book collection, every room in my house has a book shelf. Yard sales are my favorite place to find books. Eventually, when I need to thin them, the ones I can part with I donate to the local library. My nephew hates to read and it breaks my heart. I cannot do much about it, since he lives states away from me, but for gifts I like to send him books. He reminds me of myself at that age and since books were such a comfort to me, I think if he could get into reading it would help him too. I hope my niece becomes a reader!

Really? Wow, RL must be pretty busy right now.....hope she's back soon. Maybe we should send her a pm and let her know the good doc is waiting in her cabin with a fresh shipment of whipped cream?

I have been asking about Krod for a week or more and have pm'd her several times. We talked a lot and I just missed seeing her here. I hope she is okay...

Oh, does anyone know for sure WHERE the new episodes will be shown? I thought USA had the LOCI series now... I know NBC has been showing the repeat of this season and dubbing them as "all new", which I guess they are to that channel. But will USA or NBC be airing the "new" new episodes?
