Amen. This 2008 PRESIDENTIAL RACE seemed to start about 10 minutes after the 2004 INAUGURAL SWEARING IN. Candidates in Canada are not allowed to put out signs for an election until just before the voting so campaigns don't seem to last very long. I don't understand your constitutional amendment on TERM LIMITS OF PRESIDENTS (2 TERMS). It tends to make a 2 TERM PRESIDENT (like CLINTON who seemed to be doing very well) a lame duck PESIDENT after only 1 TERM. Why can't they run longer? Plus these years long campaigns (like HILLARY CLINTON) must cost an incredible amount of money!!!
To answer your question about terms limits, the simple answer is Roosevelt. FDR was elected to office during the Great Depression, and was elected to 4 terms of office. Has he lived, FDR would have been in the White House for 16 years. While FDR's popularity is unmatched, particularly in today's presidential field, several felt that 16 years was too long for one man to be in charge of the country. Shortly after FDR's death, a Constitutional Amendment was passed and ratified that that limited the term of office for President to two terms. Which is the standard set by George Washington. The lame duck of a president second term usually starts the last year in office (Bush's seems longer cause he's lost so much popularity).
Now I have to agree that the idea of setting a time on when a person starts a campaign is appealing to me. Cause the money involved is enormous. However, since I work in radio, advertising is what pays my paycheck, and I kinda like getting paid, sooooo I'm kinda of torn between the whole spending money thing.
