You meant to say computer ILLITERATE.

Actually, no. I meant to say aren't. See, that's why the word "completly" is in there. If they were completly computer illiterate then they wouldn't be on a message board, but, it is very possible for someone to not be completly computer literate and still be on a message board. They'de just be having trouble and they'de be the people with a need for a tech thread.

It's called a typo, ever heard of it.....or let me guess, you're too distracted by my signature to remember what a typo is or even remember your manners.

I agree, 86...chilly! I sweated today while taking my 5th graders on a field trip....in 95 degree weather. I love the Volunteer state. I am personally fine with the warm weather. If I did not love my state so much, I'd move further south.
But it can stay hot here...but I love NYC when its cold in December (at Christmas)...so let it get cold there.

Ok at least you guys don't live in Tennesse where it is soo hot in the day and freezing at night..it really sucks.

I almost as technically handicapped as you are, so I'll answer only what I can.

2. An avatar is the pic you see on the upper left hand corner where the person's name is. If you go into "my controls" on the left hand side there is a place to edit avatar. It took me months to finally get one, so good luck.

3. On your key pad there is a button that says "insert". That will control whether you write over or not.

Someone else can help with your margins because I'm not sure what the problem is.

Thanks to all for your attempts to help with my technical problems. To those who think a Technical Reference Thread is not necessary, please look at the number of questions that were asked by others, after I posted.

I'm not yet ready to tackle Avatars. I'll stay pictureless and signatureless for a while longer.

#3 The "Insert" Key is so logical. I wondered why I hadn't thought of it.

#4. Sometimes a solution to one problem, triggers an answer for another.
After reading something, it made me look at the icons and buttons on the reply writing board a little more carefully. There are a couple of keys on the upper right side with arrows that look like what I would call "automatic indention" keys in MS-Word. Pressing the left arrow key a number of times, brought the tab/margin further left (and corrected for balance on the right). The posts with the long, narrow columns now look like more conventional documents.

For those who suggested that I solve the margin problem by being sure it was correct before it was posted, that's a grand idea. However, I have a couple of posts of schedule information that I have gone back to edit days or weeks later, because USA re-arranged the sequence of episodes. Occassionally, I post something of which a detail I'm not quite sure; when, I've had a chance to check, I might go back and make the detail accurate.

Now for another question?:

Does anyone know how to create a tabulated document on this Board; or, for that matter, to make a document created in another program (i.e. Word) and pasted to this board retain the tabulations and formatting (i.e. spacing) through and after the Reply Key is Pressed
.

My nature is to type up things like Episode Lists, Schedules, etc. and it's frustrating when after putting together a nicely aligned document, I press the key and find everything shoved over to the left, sentences/phrases split in the middle, and/or double or triple spaces between items.

Well theres currently nothing like "Shared Presentation" on PHP Boards yet. So i would suggest you just "PrntSrc" while your board is open in the window, then paste that on a paintprogram, save the image, upload it to the net, then present the info like that. Or use proper HTML/CCS code to 'build' it. But i don't know anyother way.

Also I'm wondering what everybody is up to this weekend?

Besides typing this I am:
1) uploading songs to my playlist (audio files link in my sig at the end of this message...the section called The Vault's Favorites...all the rest are from VDO movies and TV series...but not CI because there's no CD out there with the CI theme etc on it...oh well)
2) reading a friend's blog http://www.speakeasyx.net/ (note he's a CI and VDO fan as well as an amateur writer with a great sense of humor...you should check his stuff out)
3) trying to figure out how to help get the Frances Goren Library project off to an *awesome* start (hint: I need to get a hold of Rene Balcer and am brainstorming trying to think of who I know who knows Rene so that I can take some bold action on Monday...)
4) roughing out a blog post in support of 3) (it's not ready to be posted yet)
5) mentally outlining an additional blog post on what I think of CI being on USA (very positive) and what I think of Season 7 so far (that's mostly positive)

That's mean guys! Just put the candy on the porch, you don't have to answer the door, leave a light on, and when the candy's gone it's over! You can go out instead! laugh.gif

I like Halloween fine if you have kids coming over to trick or treat. Not teenagers or college kids, mind you, the elementary school and younger ones. We see so few of them (5 or less) here in the country that I am able to put together really awesome plastic pumpkins or (this year) cauldrons that I fill up with little toys and stickers and snacks and some candy for the kids. They really flip over that (and their parents' appreciate that I go easy on the candy). It's almost as cool as doing Christmas or birthday presents for them, but not quite.

Part of why there are so few trick or treaters is not only the distance between farms but some of the more conservative churches oppose Halloween as either a pagan or satanic holiday blink.gif

But for grown ups unless you're into costume parties, I'm not that into Halloween (other than it's my annual opportunity to watch the movie "The Lady In White" in season...I am a sucker for that movie)

I like fall a lot (maybe not as much as winter though because winter = snow = The Vault making a big fool out of herself and behaving like the biggest kid sledding on her big plastic sled/toboggan over the hillier pastures). It's apple season around here (I leave near a couple of orchards) so I'm being spoiled with fresh apples and apple cider and they also do corn mazes here (a farmer cuts a pattern in his or her cornfields so that people can go figure out how to get through the maze...country amusement thing). It's also church and charity fundraiser dinner season...every weekend is a dinner at a different church or charity (last night was a steak dinner).

No leaf changing yet, but when there is I'll try to get some pics to post (tourists come here for the autumn leaves)

I love Fall (it hates me because it's my allergic season). I detest Halloween. It's pagan and is getting more evil every year. I love the little ones in their costumes, but after they are finished, it should be over. The older kids (over 13) are in it for the mischief.

We have a harvest party at the church - sort of in conjunction with the harvest moon and sukkot, which is what we really celebrate - - not the spooky, grotesque, undead stuff it has turned into. jmo

I know you Gulf Coasties rarely see snow in the air (much less any accumulation).

If you bring the fixings to make Cajun fried turkey (the spices mostly as we have turkey farms nearby and people use those propane powered turkey fryers as water bath canners or for shrimp boiling, etc so we have one of those too) you can come to the next sledding party.

You will have to laugh at us though because we're kind of lazy when we go sledding. My neighbor hooks up a hay wagon to his tractor and picks up everyone and their sleds toboggans etc who then pile onto the wagon and drives us up back up the hill. No one walks up the hill except for crazy me and then only until I get tired of hefting my sled back up the hill (maybe 3 or 4 runs).

I laugh at not knowingly, when I was first married,( incase you haven't figured out I am Cajun, aka coonass) my mother inlaw would cook things, and tell me they were other things, and loved to tell me after I was eating something else. I grew up eating stuff that came from grocery stores. My husband grew up in the country eating stuff they killed in the woods. My husband, well then boyfriend took me hunting I wouldn't let him shoot a thing, I said everything was too cute. My father never hunted so I wasn't raised around that. But now I have adapted. But my son never enjoyed it so he won't carry on the family tradition. So I have "Not Knowingly" eaten turtle, racoon, (thinking it was rabbit). The turtle she hit with her car! I ate road kill! After that I told my husband I wouldn't eat at her house anymore. I used to say I would try anything once, but after watching Fear Factor I am not so sure. lol.

I cut back on my regular cola habit bigtime (I can't stand the diet stuff and refuse to drink it...it tastes so *bad* to me). I have days where I really miss my Coke/Pepsi but I only allow myself to have it when I'm eating out (a rarity...if I'm lucky I get to go to a little Mexican restaurant every Tuesday for cheap chicken fajitas, Spanish rice, chips and salsa and then I add in my Coke...$6 with a generous tip). Regular cola disappears too quickly from the fridge if I have at at home (and of course it permanently relocates into all the wrong places on my body...sigh).

In college I cured myself of the doughnut habit...I bought a box of 12 and ate as many of them as I could in one sitting...I could only finish 10 of them and it really made me sick. Thankfully that was so unpleasant I have never craved another doughnut since. I wouldn't recommend doing it, but sometimes you have to do drastic things. Unfortunately this method didn't work for me with colas. I had to go cold turkey and it makes life unpleasant for me and everyone around me if I am quitting the stuff (luckily I haven't relapsed and bought cola to drink at home for almost a year now).

I like chocolate, but I can control myself reasonably well around it.

I like chocolate, but I can control myself reasonably well around it.

funny thing since my surgery, I can't stand anything sweet, except that one time of the month I crave it. I am right now i am addicted to green tea, with splenda the cold kind in bottles. Also all day long I drink hot tea with splenda and lemon. I was raised on diet drinks since my family was always on diets so artifical sweetners don't bother me, but I don't like the pink stuff any more, give me equal or splenda. Due to the smaller stomach I have to stay away from carbonated drinks unless they are fountain drinks which seem to have less carbonation than cans and bottles to me at least, but I rarely drink them.

I only like soda with pizza or bourbon. I drink tea, black, everyday. I only use Splenda. I quit smoking the same way VDO Vault quit donuts - - OD on them. That was 1987 and I haven't had one since.
