Full Version: Anyone Else Miss Fiona's Irish Accent?

My wife and I have been talking about this ever since episode 2 (I think) when Fiona decides
she shouldn't be "walk'n around speak'n like a freak'n leprecon".

Is it just me? It just seems that it gave her a little more... uh... flavor. Sort of suited her
better with her past in the IRA.

Is it just me? (Well, me and my wife anyways?)

In a way. I think the way she speaks now, gives her a sense of being from the Miami area. That's just my opinion. smile.gif

I like that she dropped the fake Irish accent. I like her native English accent.

I REALLY miss her accent. The Irish accent is my favorite and it was just a LOVELY touch to the show. I hear twinges of it every once in a while but it would be nice to have it back!

Support the Irish! smile.gif

Yeah but she's NOT Irish. It's a fake Irish accent. I'd rather she stick with her normal English accent or none at all.

I'm the same way with southern accents... I hate a bad fake one. (Like in the Closer) But I always thought hers was believable enough. At least for me. I guess I thought it added a little charm to her roughness. But that may just be me.

Kyra Sedwick's southern accent is actually real. She's from Texas. I think it's all those y'alls that get on your nerve. Having grown up in the South and spent a number of years attempting to drop the accent and finding that I still just can't pronounce words has led to my dislike of accents; especially southern ones.

I like her without the Irish accent. It was interesting at first but since she is Not Irish and English it didn't go. I think one should talk in their native tongue unless doing a period piece like a Jane Eyre movie or perhaps. SHAKESPEARE but with a funky Bostonian Accent thrown in. smile.gif

Actually I have always lived in Tennessee. Traveled all over the south and parts up North, as well as spending some time in East Texas. She may very well be from Texas, but her accent is unlike any Texas accent I've heard. (Not saying it isn't real mind you.) It's the exaggerated tones she uses. Like when se drawls her "u" when she say's "Whyyy thank youuuuuuuuu...."

But then again, my wife loves it. (She to born and raised in TN.)

My sister lives in the Pacific Northwest, she has completely lost her accent... except when she talks to me on the phone longer than 15 minutes. Then she starts picking it back up! LOL!!! biggrin.gif

I also miss Fiona's accent. It certainly added to her credibility as an IRA former? agent. It distingushed her from all the other characters and I think Michael was charmed by the Irish leprechan.

I assume you mean she's not Irish but she is English, since she's from England.

Shakespeare with a Boston accent? Could you imagine: A cah a cah, my kingdom for a cah!!!! LOL!!!!!

Hey, fellow Tennessean. I was born and raised in Memphis. In college I worked on getting rid of my accent since I got teased a lot. There's also this stigma attached to Southern accents; that you're dumb like Michael's Homer. I've been told that I have an accent that can't be placed at all. There are times when I speak to my family in TN that I start the long song. Have you ever heard someone from Memphis say, airport? I think they end up with 3 instead of 2 syllables. As you know our accent is totally different from Texas.

Hi Bubba here, I'm currently living in Tennessee too. Just north of Jackson.

I actually like some southern accents. I can put one on only by talking to people with that accent and it's not usually done intentionally. I used to have a bronx accent since my dad is from the bronx in NY but my mom is from Southern Cal. Most people tell me I have a Southern Cal accent. I can do both if need be.

I can say Tennessee is a beautiful state. I love the fact that there are truly 4 seasons there. Unlike most places in this country. Though I'm sure global warming may be affecting the weather there too.

I grew up hating Memphis and looking forward to leaving. Now I have mixed feelings. It was my home for 18 years of my life. Unlike, Michael Westen it was a happy childhood within an extremely close family.  So, I'm not ashamed to say Marc Cohn's "Walking in Memphis" is on my IPod's most played playlist.  tongue.gif

I didn't know there was a SoCal accent. I lived there for over 8 years and have family there. Of course, I live in Northern Cal now. The transient nature of people in CA makes it pretty difficult to pinpoint accents. Most people I knew in SoCal are from somewhere else in the country. In my experience, Northern Cal appears to have the most natives.

Brings back memories of Sheena Easton on Miami Vice.

When my sister moved to St. Louis a supervisor polietly mentioned that losing her southern accent would help move up quicker. Unfortunitely the slower you talk the less intelligent you are perceived. I have to travel from time to time in my work. I tend to try and not talk much. When ever I have to go to Chicago it only takes two words out of my mouth and people ask me where I am from.!!! Hahaha!!

I also have found it's a very good ice breaker up north.

I met a lady once that talked exactly like Mike Myers' character from the Coffee Talk skit. It was a hoot. I always thought that accent was just exaggerated. But it's really not! Long nails, high hair, lots of gold on her and man she smoked like a freight train! (Nice lady too.)

Memphis huh? We're planning on taking the kids to the zoo there soon. Stayed there once.
Been wanting to make it to the Music festival in May. Hear it's very cool.

Seems like there's more TN folk here than I thought. smile.gif

I am glad she dropped it. It was a bad accent anyway. Sedgwick's accent sucks beyond belief! I was born and raised in the south and it suuuuucks! Even people from the south would ask, "Where the hell are you from?"

Hey, I went to Wash U in St. Louis; that's where I encountered the jokes about my accent. That's funny because there was a huge number of students from New York and I do recall their accents weren't laughed at as much. I've also heard the "Cawfee" Talk accent too. I think it's worst when they smoke because the voice gets so rough.

Anyway, I haven't been to Memphis zoo since I was a kid. I heard it's changed significantly in the past 20 something years. Memphis in May festivals are fun. Also, Memphis is absolutely beautiful in May. Have fun!!!!

I liked the accent to. When said "Should we kill them?" Is definatly a line to remimber.
