Venus is out---oh well.I was only able to watch the match in bits & pieces & never saw her post match interview. This morning I read in the newspaper that she said she wasn't feeling well.It may or may not be true--there have been other excuses in the past when she lost.I wonder if she had won if she would have said anything about her health--you know--like--"I can't believe I won because I felt so crummy"--it's just a thought. My husband is a golfer & when he comes home after a louzy round he says--"I played like a bum today"--has any professional athlete EVER said that? I would love to hear it just once--no excuses--no health issues--just say they were not having a good day on the court--on the fairways--in the water--out in left field--whatever.I rarely will be cheering on either Williams sister--they have turned me off completely.

You'd have been happy with the comments of Nadal after losing his grueling match with Ferrer. Everyone knew Nadal had been considering not playing in the Open itself due to some health issues, and he looked much worse for wear after Ferrer ran him all over the hard surface court. But Nadal pointedly noted Ferrer's great season and play, and he refused to discuss his own body as a contributing factor in his loss. Nadal has class.

Heck, even Sharapova said "No Excuses" for her own poor performance in this event.

It is strongly believed in the African-American Community that most of white Americans cannot stand the Williams sisters because they are African American and came into an almost white sport and won so many times.

While I agree that at times their public responses to their losses (ie excuses are not that great) I think they are truly talented in their sport and when I see people almost evil with glee when they loose, it makes me sick and gives me an indication that so many persons in the country are still very prejudice towards African-Americans that make strides in the predominately white controlled-white dominated sports.

Ok--while that may be true for a lot of people it doesn't necessarily represent the majority. The Williams family may want to wave around that racist junk but it doesn't fly w/me. I was really pulling for Donald Young--what is he?Orange? I enjoyed Zena Garrison in the past & always cheered her on. Who did they name a stadium after?Arthur Ashe--a very classy man.I think it's the attitude w/a capital A that turns people off w/the Williams sisters--at least it does w/me. I would never say they had no talent because of course they do or they wouldn't win.Everything that happens w/them can't be atrributed to race--the buck stops w/them & they always want to pass it off w/excuses.They are 2 talented & intelligent young women outside of tennis & they do have a lot to be proud of.

First of all I agree 110% that both Williams sisters are talented and strong players, I especially admire the way Serena plays and her mental toughtness. However, talent is one thing and attitude is another. The main issue here is how they respond when it comes to losses. They really seldom praise the opponent when they lost, mostly attributed their losses to personal issues, not playing well, or the opponent just hit some lucky shots. Nadal is a top player, but he allowed himself to be humble when he lost to Ferrer, who is not even the number one player in the world. Not only has he made no excuses (even though he seemed not feeling 100% for the open), he complimented Ferrer. I don't see any prejudice against race for this issue. Rather, it's an issue of losing graciously or not, plain and simple. Being sensitive is good, but not too sensitive.
