We have covered a lot of our favorites. I thought it would be fun to share our favorite books. Please include Title, Author, and a short synopses and why you like it
My 1st one will be:
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
It's about a young girl who is murdered and dismembered. It takes place in "her version of heaven" as she looks down and watches what her family goes through after her death. She can also see her murderer. It spans many years. She sees her little brother grow from 4 years to his adulthood. She grieves for herself and for them, until she realizes that had she not died they would not have become who they eventually became....This is where the title comes from..."The lovely bones that formed them."
Even though at first it sounds very grusome it is a very good book. The murder is just a catalyst for so much more. I read this book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. It is probably the best book I have ever read. To see her accept her own death knowing that even though she would never grow up, never marry, never have children...it made her family who they ended up being.

So far so good it's bringing back some previous characters. Which I love about Iris' books. I"ve read all of her books to date. I haven't read a bad book by her yet. There was one called "body of lies" it takes place in Louisiana and my home town is mentioned. I got a kick out of that because my home town is very small.

I've always been a big fan of John Grisham and Stephen King. JG's "A Time To Kill" was one of the best books I've ever read in my life - soooo much better than the movie (surprise surprise). And SK's "Dark Tower" series kept me on the edge for a decade & a half. No exaggeration; I got the first 2 for my 15th b-day and the last one (#7) was published when I was 31. They were worth the wait though IMO.

I pretty much like books of any kind. I keep yearly
booklogs, too.

One of my recent faves is Stephenie Meyer's
Twilight series. It's not spectacular writing, but it's just a really great vampire story. I also like the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. This year I read Chuck Palahniuk's
Fight Club! It was amazing, and I checked into several of his other works, all of which leave me astounded by the end!

your business! LOL
I also liked
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho...gooood read, and pretty quick too since it's not too long. Really made me look at my life and think. I like books like that.
I'm currently reading the Supernatural book

Bubba, I don't know how I even get to read with my schedules anymore. But I do, lack of sleep is something I can deal with if I can read. It's like breathing to me...the same with singing. Those are two things I can't do without. If I ever got to a point where I couldn't do those 2 things, I think I'd shrival up and die.

I have a hard time reading sci-fi. The only ones I've ever liked were star trek ones. I love biographies, poli-sci, social science, history, true crime, murder mysteries.

Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns are both fabulous.
Koontz's The Good Guy, The Husband, and the 3 Odd Thomas books.
Anything by Jeffrey Archer, especially Kane and Abel, with his Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less running a close second.
All of Sue Harrison's pre-historic fiction novels.
and don't ever forget Dickens. How could we live without Dickens?

Sci-Fi is my favorite of course. Love the Star Trek: TNG (dont care for the original ST though; Kirk is a weenie)
Just re-read the entire Harry Potter Series for the second time (on a school break so no homework, yippee).
Also love F.M. Busby's work. Older series but you can still get in some libraries and bookstores and online of course. Just started the Rissa Kergulen series again (Young Rissa, Rissa and Tregare, and The Long View). If I have time, I'll read the rest of the saga after that.
Spider Robinson is really good too. Starseed was my favorite. Need to reread that one again too if I can find it in my garage...
My favorite fiction outside of sci fi is the Lords of Discipline.

Hi Phanta,
It sure leads to a 4th. Here is an excerpt from a Koontz Q&A on amazon.com:
QUESTION: I'm in bookselling and got my hands on an advance reader's copy of BROTHER ODD. I doubted that any book in the series could reach the peak and the power of the original, ODD THOMAS, but this one comes really, really close. And the AMAZING ending has me excited about what comes next for Oddie. I think the next one might be the best of all. Please tell me the series doesn't end here! --Rob, Chicago
ANSWER: Thanks for your kind words, Rob. There will be a fourth episode in Odd's life, and maybe more. He is on an epic journey, and I have no idea where it will lead him--except that as he deals with the real problems of life and with the supernatural, he will always be Odd, maturing in mind and heart, but always fully aware of the comic and the tragic qualities of life that are entwined in every moment of our existence. I have to finish a very special novel slated for autumn 2007, and of course FRANKENSTEIN #3, but then I will follow Odd to whatever epiphany he leads me. Odd Hours comes out in May, 2008!!! Can't wait.

Currently I'm reading two books at the moment:
Communion by Whitley Strieber
2012: The War for Souls by Whitley Strieber
So far I am loving 2012. I've read lots of books in my young life but never have I read one where the characters in the book are the ones writing the story. Without giving too much away, this character, Wiley, he's been having this urge to write but what he's writing about is actually something going on in a parallel universe. It is way cool! Being a sci-fi fan, I love novels that deal with UFOs, extraterrestrials, and that which cannot be explained (ghosts, I'm not so sure about). But I have always also loved the notion of parallel universes- they have always been something fun to ponder on, the thought that something could be going on at the exact same time yet things are completely different. Currently I am only on page 56 but I am loving everything from it- getting the view from both dimensions. In one of the dimensions it has kind of a War of the Worlds feel to it but is much weirder which is cool. I'm dying to finish the rest of it.

Since I've ditched the TV I have read A LOT of books. I won't list them alll....that would be crazy. The 3 though that have kept me busy this week (yes this week) are "Bitter is the New Black", "Bright Lights, Big Ass", and "Such a Pretty Fat". All 3 are by Jen Lancaster and are listed are biographies. Very funny stuff, I"d find myself laughing myself to tears while reading.......oh and I also recently read "Odd Hours" by Dean Koontz. It's the 4th in his Odd Thomas series. One word: AWESOME.
