Courier suggested that those players who had more than 8 letters in their last name should be required to shorten them. Did anyone really find this humorous?

I doubt very much if anyone HERE thought it was amusing since the majority opinion is totally against Courier no matter WHAT he says--good bad or indifferent. I don't think he meant it as an insult & was just trying to be humorous--nothing more. There ARE a lot of "ovas" in the draw--more than ever it seems.I wonder if THEY got a kick out of it. I got a little chuckle out of it even tho I don't find JC all that amusing.

It was just another "we know only white anglos saxons watch tennis" remarks, but not as bad as Tracy Austin's sickly sweet "we have a lot of new names here, and a lot of new names to pronounce, but we'll help you at home with this!" when discussing the russian ladies.

I think he was semi serious. Takes lots of work to learn those names. Maybe Jim should find another profession. And anyone in this day & age that can't correctly pronounce height (rhymes with right & might & light - not hyth) - Jim, Tracy & even you Dick Enberg - should not be paid to announce sporting events.
