I felt that way too first. But then after i got it, mainly cause our tv was about to give out. so we got a good deal on a HD tv. it was like going from tv speakers to 5.1 surround. After you have it, you feel like how the the he## did i ever watch tv or movies with out this

Or Sort of like going to see a movie in theater in a run down theater, then seeing a good movie in imax. not needed, just a lot better
We got an HD tv a few months ago, and we have surround sound, but so far, the only really worthwhile thing I can say about it is that at least I can turn off the surround sound and the TV takes a lot less space in the living room. The surround sound means that it's impossible to find anywhere in the livingroom to sit where the sound isn't too overwhelming. My husband wants to watch TV while he's playing games on his computer with headphones on, so he turns the TV up way too loud to hear over his headphones. Which is just really damn stupid to me. And the HD is clear, but so was the old TV. Maybe the HD is clearer than the old one, but I just don't pay enough attention to what's on it most of the time to really care. If for some reason we had to go back to the non-HD, I wouldn't really care except that my livingroom is so small.
I know that watching television or movies is important to a lot of people, and they want to enhance the experience as much as they can. Nothing wrong with that. I'm just a person to who feels that reading a good book in a quiet place or going to an art museum is a better experience. Watching TV is boring and everyday to me no matter how HD it is or how good the surround sound is.
