Episode Detail: Meat Is Murder, But Murder Is Also Murder - Psych

Shawn and Gus take on the case of a chef accused of murdering a food critic with poisonous mushrooms.
Leesha
Spoiler:
Looks like fun, and we get to meet Gus' uncle, and he gets to play psychic!
PsyFanPinapplejuice
Unconfirmed
Spoiler:
Shawn gets a job as horoscope writer for the local newspaper in an effort to solve the case. there will be Shawn/Jules moment(s) in this episode.
sarcasmlove
Spoiler:
If that last part is true I'm excited. I remember the producers mentioning in one of their interviews that Shawn and Jules will have a moment, but they said it was going to be at the end of the season. Although this is somewhat at the end of the first part of their season...

This shall be interesting as well. We kinda get a chance to see Shawn through Gus' eyes with all the crazy stuff he does. It will be amusing to see Gus doing these hilarious antics Shawn delivers that we all love.

This is probably the last episode I'll get to watch before I move out for college, so I hope it's good. It looks promising, anyway. I won't be able to watch any of the other new episodes until break. =(

Can't wait!!!! It sounds like it's going to be sweet! smile.gif

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I can see 2 more episodes and then I move to college...I'm really hoping my roommate and I can get our TV before another new one, otherwise I too will have to wait til break to watch the ones I may miss.

In my opinion this is easily the best episode of season two. There were absurd circumstances, sharp banter, funny acting, and a strong mystery. I loved the horoscope thing, Lassiter was priceless, and the Apple Jacks shirt was right up there. Having Shawn and Gus switch places was a great idea, kudos to whoever thought that up! The scene when Shawn and Gus are explaining the case was so awesome, I'll never forget it.

Season two has been missing something that is fundamental to Psych: the constant risk that Shawn will be caught as being a fake, or just get in trouble for behaving like a child (like in Shawn vs. the Red Phantom, when he was in Cheif Vick's office with her dayplanner), but this episode reintegrated that element when Gus was forced the fake psychic abilities. Those awkward moment when their cover is about to be blown are too few and far between so far this season, even in Psy vs. Psy, when Lindsey threated to prove that Shawn is a faker.

Hopefully this episode is something like we can expect from the rest of the season.

Just my two cents, thanks for listening!

I thought I watched too much television until last night when Uncle Burton (John Amos) mention five television shows in the episode. When McNab told Uncle Burton he wasn't allow in the crime scene, he told him about things he learned from 'Hills Street Blues'. When Gus and Shawn gave the reading at the police station, he mentioned 'Ghost Whisperer'. Also mention were 'Diagnosis Murder', 'The Rockford Files' and 'Murder, She Wrote'. Even Shawn asked, "Man, how much television does he watch?" Dang!

I love the return of MagicHead. That scene where they past off who was the murderer, hilarious! laugh.gif The last scene where Shawn want Gus to sign what the role of assistant should do. Great! Dang, Don Cheadle should take some time off his busy schedule and a make a cameo on the show. My daughter loves the song, 'I Want Candy' from Bow Bow Bow so she was happy when they used it. Everyone reading their horoscopes (which I never do) that Shawn had laugh.gif written (only Henry knew that Shawn wrote them.).

Eating Cheetos will never be the same now, and I want an Apple Jacks t-shirt. Yes, I do eat Apple Jacks; hey, they are cinnamon, toasty. Maybe Kellogg's will now offer the t-shirt with five upcs of Apple Jacks.

Great episode!

My favorite moments were :
-Shawn's horoscopes(especially his one for Jules-he's still not giving up with her!)
-The whole Shawn/Gus beating each other up at the big reveal
-That one yellowish shirt Shawn was wearing looked like a Pineapple!
-When Shawn shouted out random words and Gus translated them.

Overall, I loved it, as always. Too many good quotes to say, but I wonder what happened to Lassie's arm!

Exactly, To me, it was like part of the episode was missing...the whole side story with lassiter's arm/promotion went nowhere, but it was an ok episode. a 7 out of 10 for me. Next weeks looks TOO funny! haha. cant wait!
bigkitty_4
"I bet he watch 'Manimal'. Dang! I totally forgot about the television show: 'Manimal'; but it is a television show that was totally awlful.

The promotion thing came from the horoscope so that was explain and I am guessing because of time, they never discussed what happen to Lassiter's arm. My guess is: he did some thing stupid and didn't want to reveal it. It reminded me on Monk in the episode where the captain broke his arm and blame it on his motorcycle. Monk went to him; knowing he wasn't on his motorcycle, and then captain revealed he was cleaning his gutters and fell off the ladder. Maybe if Lassiter didn't want Shawn to reveal he did something stupid, I don't know. I am only guessing.

I definitely LOVED this episode!
My favorite parts include..
--Lassie walking through the doors backwards
--Shawn and Gus Hitting eachother
--Just everything Gus did in the episode
--Gus and Shawn shouting random words (One of them including PINEAPPLE)
--the Apple Jacks
--And it was a GREAT mystery
Great espisode guys, keep up the good work!! biggrin.gif

And I wonder if we'll ever find out what happened to Lassie? wink.gif

Ooooh yeah! It took me watching the episode twice to catch all the times Lassie walked through a doorway backwards lol. That was sweet.
And I too want an Apple Jacks T-shirt now! Hehe.

I feel so bad because I missed latest psych episode. Is there any way I can see parts of it. I bet it was funny and I probably would have lmho. James Roday is so funny. All he has to do is pull and funny face and I laugh.

Just watched this episode and fell in love with the "cook um dano" apron. I want it! Does anyone know where I can pick one up?

I'm watching this episode again and typing out all my favorite moments.

Gus: Everybody on my mother's side of the family thinks that I'm a psychic detective, and that you're...
Shawn: Gay?
Gus: No!
Shawn: German?
Gus: No!
Shawn: Invisible?
Gus: My assistant Shawn!

Shawn's charades.

Shawn: Dude, Lassie, what happened to your arm?
Lassiter: I don't want to talk about it.
Juliet: Ya, he won't tell us either.

Lassiter: Am I now supposed to belive that Guster here...
Shawn: Spiflestumuffinuh.
Vick: What?

Gus: Horoscopes are supposed to be vague, so that people can interpret them to mean whatever they want, yours are all way too specific.
Shawn: I wrote them with specific people in mind.
~~~
Juliet: 'Aries: Calcium is especially important to you right now Mr. Salt and Pepper hair with maroon car. There may also be a promotion in your future. Try walking backwards through doorways for good luck.' Carlton, are you expecting a promotion?
Lassiter: No. Come on O'Hara, dont be so naive, it's horoscopes, nonsense.
Vick: Detective Lassiter, may I have a word?
Juliet: Okay, what's mine... 'Libra: Your one true love will be wearing sneakers and an Apple Jacks t-shirt.' That's kind of a weird detail.
Shawn: Wait for it. Wait for it... Is there a problem?
Lassiter: No, no. I'm just making... sure I'm not being followed. A good cop, always aware of his surroundings.
*crash*
Juliet: I had better go help him.
The big reveal where Shawn and Gus keep hurting each other.
Shawn: The first thing you needed was a fall guy, unfortunately Lee Majors wasn't available.
*wispers*
Shawn: Apparently he was available, he lives here in town, but he was a little out of your price range.
Shawn: Well there you have it, you can sign it anyway you want.
Gus: I'm not signing that.
But you can sign anything you want, he said. You could sign it Don Chidel.
Gus: I'm not signing that!
Shawn: The Brickshelf's Billy Pilgrim.
*something undeciferable*
I hope you enjoyed this episode as much as I did.
My first time here. This episode was so funny that I had comment. We Tivoed it (don't worry, we watched the commercials!) and so I got to watch the slapstick routine at the end a second time (my wife nodded off so I just watched it again with her). That was hysterically funny! Great job to the writers and actors. That must have been really hard to get through w/o cracking up while filming! It was as good as a Three Stooges routine!
The horoscope-writing was good too because it showed Shawn actually thinking ahead for the gag. It will be interesting how his interest in Juliet plays out, if anywhere.
The "speaking in tongues" gag wasn't quite as funny, but still good. I enjoy the show more when it's not trying to be over-the-top silly, but the "speaking" and "mind meld" gags were great.
What I didn't really get was the dragged-out contract-signing. Funny for a minute, not for three. Didn't get the humor of the Don Cheadle reference.
Great job to all involved!
When they pulled out the Manimal reference, I fell out laughing. That was funny! Awful show, you're so right!
My guess on the arm is maybe the actor hurt himself, and they just had to put it in. Tim had a sprain, say, and they had to keep shooting. I don't know. It's a guess.
Welcome! They've used Don Cheadle references a few times, just for fun, I guess. This was just another random one.
Thanks for the clue, Leesha. I never knew who the guy was until I Googled him, so I guess I missed the previous references.
Separately, my wife I and kept trying to figure out where we'd seen "Uncle Burton" before, and it wasn't til I G'ed him that I saw he's on "Men in Trees", which we watch regularly. But the guy's been on TV (and movies) forever, even back to "Love American Style"!
Great episode, loved it! Can anyone tell me who played the mushroom guy? Al Mooney, I believe was his name? My husband and I both think we've seen him before but can't place him.
My dad also remembered him from other TV shows. I think it was actually 'Love American Style.' I dunno how old that show is, but it probably shows my dad's age well, that he can remember it lol.
He was also the father on "Good Times", that's where I know him from. I believe TVLand recently added that show to their lineup.
Could anyone decipher what Shawn and Gus were saying near the end of the episode..right before Shawn goes into Magic Head.
Gus: ____ shoelaces, pineapple, _______.
Any help would be great..feel free to totally redo what I said above..I was writing from my memory.
I totally agree! You're right... the risk that Shawn will be caught as fake IS vital to the conflict of the storyline... it creates tension that helps make the show interesting. I mean... the show is great no matter what. But that extra tension makes it better.
Agree that this was the best ep in Season 2. The best jokes, best lines, best TV references. Although kind of an easy mystery, which seems typical this season.
Funny as heck!!!!!!! I thorougly enjoyed it and I loved the song, "I want candy." Good stuff!! God bless
beautifulknitter
When USA re-ran this episode the other day, I happened to watch the opening scene again and caught what was on Gus' apron when he came out of the pantry: "Cook 'em, Dano", as in Hawaii 5-0's "Book 'em, Dano." It was even funnier when my husband pointed out that it must Henry's apron that Gus had borrowed. The little details in the show are fantastic, and are far from just funny. They add depth and history to the characters that many TV shows simply don't bother with including.
And no, I have no idea where you could buy the apron, but eBay or flea markets might turn something up.
