Here's another interview Tony did at this year's upfronts in March:

Tony Shalhoub Talks MONK
by theTVaddict.com
May 15, 2008 09:30 AM

In the coming season, are we going to see more of what happened to Trudy, or why it happened to Trudy? Or will it always be something that sort of comes up here and there?

I think we will try to start. Everyone has the sense that we’re approaching the end, whether it’s this season or season eight, we definitely, we gotta wind it down. And I think the writers, in their heads, are starting to move towards that.

Somebody quite insane. He would be trying to deal with me sensibly, you know, but I would be highly, highly neurotic and insane.

Monk’s Tony Shalhoub Respects His Fans

QUOTE
June 9th, 2008. Los Angeles, CA. It’s nice to see a talented actor be completely down-to-earth and humble when it comes to his fans. Tony Shalhoub was busy on set for Monk, not acting like you’d think he would, but giving back to his fans. Here you can see Tony as he gives a little boy his autograph and hug as the boy’s dad takes a picture.

It’s true that Tony isn’t the best looking actor out there, we’re pretty sure he knows this too, so that could be part of the reason he is so humble. Or maybe it’s cause his mama would smack the sh*t out of him if he treated his fans like little peasants. Whether it’s his family background or less-attractive looks, he’s a good guy and deserves the career he has today.

Thanks for the article, but what do they mean 'less attractive'? blink.gif They obviously haven't spent any time on this board. There are plenty of people attracted to TS.

Not all actors that people have found 'attractive' have been what is considered classically handsome. But there is something about that man that is adorable.

Oh, let's see: his eyes, his smile, his curly hair, his endearing modesty, maybe? In my opinion Tony beats pretty boys like Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt any day. Plus, I like the fact that he has stayed out of the tabloids and maintained an enduring marriage.

Ashley,

I completely agree with you! Pretty boys like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt just wish they looked half as good as Tony! I also love the fact that he stays out of the tabloids, for all the wrong reasons, and has an enduring and loving marriage. If Tony makes the tabloids, it isn't for drugs or some prostitution ring, it is for something positive, like winning an Emmy or Monk's 100th episode. The only woman you have to worry about seeing on his arm is Brooke Adams, and I think that is very, very cool! It isn't often that happens in Hollywood or anywhere else now a days, that a marriage lasts as long as theirs has. It is something very special!

Tony Shalhoub on Monk's 100th episode

QUOTE
By Lorrie Lynch
with Kathy Rowings

I once met Monk star Tony Shalhoub (at left) on the red carpet at the Golden Globes. He was there with his wife, Brooke Adams, and she stepped back to let him talk to the press and revel in his moment. Last week, Kathy got the chance to talk with the Emmy and Golden Globe winner, who celebrates 100 episodes of Monk in July. Here's Kathy's report.

Shalhoub says when he first signed on to the show, 100 episodes was something of a pipe dream, but now that the USA Network hit is about to cross that major TV milestone, he's happy to be there -- even if playing the obsessive-compulsive title character has gotten into his head a little. "I think I had low levels of those kinds of quirks, as a lot of people really do, but it's definitely grown over time," Shalhoub said. "I'm not really the kind of actor who brings my work home with me so much, normally, but I sort of feel infected by this character in a way. I think about things that I normally wouldn't otherwise."

Shalhoub also revealed the possible plot line for that 100th episode: "The writers have, I think, a really, really clever idea," he said. "They want to make the plot of the episode 'Monk's 100th case.' And there's a Dateline-type reporter following Monk on his investigation, sort of a Stone Phillips kind of guy. During this Dateline thing, it will be interspersed with people from past episodes, people who have come across Monk and they'll talk about him. People like Ambrose, Monk's smarter, more troubled brother, played by John Turturro. And different guest stars that we've had over the past six seasons will make small cameos."

And speaking of guest stars, this season they've already worked with Brad Garrett and Robert Loggia, and Shalhoub said they'd have several more.

Yeah, I had to go straight over there after reading your comment. I'm fuming now. Here's what they said:

Wow. That was obnoxious. Less attractive to who? I had to post a comment on that one. You know me. rofl. Less attractive but a good guy. I hope this wasn't a paid writer. What a waterhead. This is exactly what I was talking about a while back--Hollywood and media thinking they define what is attractive for the rest of us. Who's attractive then? Tom Cruise? I'd throw him out of my house--his mind is gone. As soon as he jumped on my couch, I'd clothesline him and drag his butt out into the street. Brad Pitt? Look Brad, just because I put up with you in the occasional movie, doesn't mean I don't still think you're some goofy nerd who spends a lot of time in the makeup chair. Who else? What other plasticked up pretty boys am I missing here? How obnoxious was that comment? This article reads as though it was penned by a high school student.

Because in their addled logic, people who look like real, regular people have to be humble and considerate. "Attractive" people don't have to be humble or considerate because everyone's kissing their butt. I'm going to use an expression I absolutely loathe--Tony's hot. I define "hot" for me--not hollywood and not media. They've been doing this for decades. They can bite me. Tony's hot. If he was the garbage man on my street or the guy stacking cans at the grocery store, and he was unattached, I'd be wanting that. Less attractive? My damn eye.

Me too - I've always been attracted to men who aren't "classically handsome," whatever that means. A man's eyes and smile are the most important physical features to me, not chiseled jaws, big muscles or cocky attitudes. I'm much more attracted to kindness, intelligence and character than to "All-American good looks."

Me too, but speaking strictly about the physical, that's what I go for. Men who look like real men and real people. There isn't a single unattractive bone in Tony's body. It's just galling that they'd even make that comment. I'm not attracted to men who look like Hollywood's idea of attractive. I don't want to offend anyone who likes Tom Cruise--a lot of people do. I don't. I never have. That "look" actually turns my stomach. I think I could tour the Mattel factory and find less plastic. I don't like smoothed over, touched up, makeup'd men. I just don't. Some do. I don't. I am soooooooo fuming right now. I think they grossly overestimate how many women like that look, as well. I hate when anyone presumes to speak for me....like Hollywood and media have already determined what the standard is and we all just fall in like sheep. Ew. I'm sure Brooke doesn't walk around the house thinking, well he's less attractive but he's such a nice guy. Not. She's lucky to have a good man who's also so attractive, and she has to know it. He's lucky to have her and I'm sure he knows it. I would never in a million years go into that business--these people just turn your lives into a circus.

LOL. Nice Yvette.

This is one reason why I like old movies. In the 1940's it seemed that you didn't have to be "classically handsome" (that cookie-cutter look -- for want of a better term) to be considered a heart throb or a leading man. Now it seems you do. Think of some of the leading men in the 40's -- Jimmy Stewart, William Powell, Spencer Tracey, and (OK Yvette), James Cagney. Great actors all, who had tremendous appeal to female fans. But I'm not sure what Hollywood would do with them today.

Now that doesn't mean I don't sometimes go for the 'classic' too -- I'm rather fond of Cary Grant and Pierce Brosnan. But I like smart men who play smart roles. But there are a lot of pretty boys in Hollywood right now who just don't do it for me.

Edited to add: But TS looks pretty good from where I'm standing...

I think this article and that writer's comments are going to have me watching Made Up with brand new eyes. And it's supposed to be sitting in my box as of today. I can't wait to see it--I'm bringing it up the hill after I take my son to work.

One of the things I admire about people who manage to pull off an enduring, lasting marriage not only as a magic trick given the way things are and the way people are nowadays, but also, to manage that while working in this industry. Both Tony and Brooke have to be very stable, sane, intelligent, patient, and understanding people. You just can't do it otherwise. When I start formulating an opinion of what kind of person someone is, whether that opinion ends up being right or wrong, I always look at this part of it. You can't be flakey or self-absorbed or unstable, and somehow pull this off. It doesn't happen. And then, to also make that happen in the middle of the hollywood/media machine--that's like catching lightning in a bottle.

I kinda didn't remember a hot dog vender either, I believe that he posted it before the episode was aired, and it might've been cut. Maybe it was in the scene before Randy talked to Silver Bastard. However, worked with Jason and it was a pretty great experience on the Monk set. Woo Hoo.

Foot in mouth disease--yes there is a scene with a hot dog vendor. It's right after the scene with Ted and the pregnant lady, and right before Randy talks to the silver bastard. lol. If you blink, you miss it. And he does say his line: "I told you. I didn't even get here 'til 10:30." The scene's a hot 4 seconds long.

A majority of SAG actors make less than 20,000 a year.
With SAG on the brink of a strike,it's a shame this actor chose to blog about his salary in such a style.
The tone of his article was very misleading that 900.00 may be the only money he earns the whole month.
It is a very tough career to choose

Monk is coming back in three weeks! How will they be handling Stanley Kamel's passing?
When the show returns, weeks will have passed since we last saw Monk, and he is very much reeling (as are we) from the death of his therapist, but he will be shopping around for a new one, and Hector Elizondo is set to take Dr. Kroger's place. We'll also get another CBS vet in the premiere: Brad Garrett is helping Monk with his new home, and not that you would ever believe this about Brad Garrett, but there's something a little off about him

Hopefully the 'weeks' will have left Monk still dealing with this enough that fans will get a sense of closure. I have a feeling that first episode -- even as much as we look forward to the beginning of the season -- that first one's going to be a little rough.

They said he's reeling still from the loss, that is good for me, I need to see him deal with it. And shopping for a new therapist, well, I can just imagine the comic potential there. It'd be even more difficult for him to pick a new therapist than it was to find his new assistant, I would think.

You know, I never even considered the possibility that they would just have Dr. Kroger move away on the show. I just figured they would completely write him out of the show somehow because they wouldn't want to leave the character open like that. Hmmmm, that's interesting and I can't believe I didn't consider that.
