Emmy speculations and opinions:

Of course realistically, one of these slots is likely to go to Steve Carell, which is fine - and to "Monk"’s Tony Shalhoub, which is less fine. He’s a terrific actor, but the role and the show have become ridiculously broad, and the performance really has been honored enough. huh.gif
But since its his last season he deserves to go out with an even four!

I have just one question for that person who wrote these words: Why are they giving an award to an actor?? The answer should be: Because he's the best actor. He has an excellent performance at his role and has a great acting skills! So where is the problem if Tony wins his 4th emmys?? huh.gif Nowadays they forgot about it, at least it seems like...

It would wonderful indeed and a great way to end the series by not only again recognizing the acting talents of Monk but also the achievements of Natalie for the first time as well. Could there be a better swam song to close the show than to have their peers acknowledge their contributions in creating such a classic cult series!

I was always wondering how they choose a location. Is there a list somewhere about these locations or somebody from the cast or from the crew is going somewhere and just notice that place and say it would be great to shoot there, or they just get in the car and look for the perfect place, or the combination from these?? rolleyes.gif Does anybody have an idea about it? BTW i checked this location on google map and that is a nice place (except that bus stop at the corner with some trash on the ground, Adrian's had a lot things to do there laugh.gif ) , i'm so waiting for to see that location in s8. biggrin.gif

Yes, they drive around but the The Production design people know the area pretty well so they can say, hey that restaraunt over there will work great for this scene etc. A friend of mine, now retired, used to be a Set designer. He worked on Simon and Simon and Rockford Files and did the Predator films as well. You do have to be well versed if not very good at research to find way out places though.

Wow, sorry I didn't catch that. Remember the airhead theory. LOL!!!
Hope this isn't a double:

TONY SHALHOUB as ADRIAN MONK, MONK (6 nominations, 3 wins)
Shalhoub continues to solve cases as the obsessive-compulsive detective title character on USA’s hit show. His work is as fine as ever, but there are those who were tired of his performance at the very beginning of the series, and they’re likely more than furious at this point. Nonetheless, there’s no reason to oust Shalhoub unless there’s a major unexpected overhaul of this category. This coming season will be the last for “Monk,” and Shalhoub will likely have the honor of being nominated consistently throughout his show’s entire run.

Hello.

I agree with you: the award should go to whomever performs best with the material given but one problem is that there may not be an appropriate category to fit Monk into while I wonder if the absence of canned laughter might also be a minus?

As for numbers being the determinant factor, we have heard this story before; it's like asking Mozart or Beethoven to stop composing and let someone else have their 15 minutes.

If the powers to be fail this one year or next to properly recognize the contributions of the cast, and writers of this series, then maybe we, the fans, can do something somehow.

I agree with what you say, but I do seem to recall that when Tony lost to what's his name, a few vocal fans said that Tony was "robbed". Couldn't it be that, in this case, what's his name was a better actor than Tony last year? Not to say that Tony as bad, but that what's his name was better.

I suppose it could be possible about "what's his name," but in my humble, not a voter opinion, Tony was the best in his category. But that's in the past and I'm sure it made the other guy very happy and I will say he did deserve a little positive praise after all the negative things that went on in his personal life and got spread all over publically which just wasn't right. I do think just to be chosen to be a possible winner is very nice praise from their peers and recognition of their outstanding skills! This year, definitely Tony belongs on the list and IMO deserves to win for the outstanding job he performs in this show! He is just SO talented!! I just hope that others from that great cast make the cut, too! They are ALL just SO good!

New project with Tony Shalhoub?

“Lend Me A Tenor” B’way-Bound?

QUOTE
“Lend Me A Tenor,” a farce about celebrated fictional tenor Tito Merelli (”Il Stupendo“) by Ken Ludwig, was a hit on Broadway in 1989; the cast included Philip Bosco and Victor Garber. Now, there are some serious plans afoot to revive the play on Broadway. A reading of it has just been held in New York, with a cast to salivate over: Alfred Molina, Tony Shalhoub, T. R. Knight, Jan Maxwell, and Marian Seldes. Stanley Tucci directed the reading, which has been getting good buzz around the Rialto. Will we see this production next season?

Tony Shalhoub reports that his “Monk” series troupe is just passing “the halfway point of the season” — in production of the eighth and final season for the USA Network show that’s earned him three Emmys for his portrayal of obsessive-compulsive detective Adrian Monk. And, he says, “We’re already getting nostalgic for it. People are already looking at me with puppy dog eyes.”He admits, “We all love to work, and we all love to have work, so to step away from something so strong and successful — of course there’s a risk involved.” Still, “I’ve spoken with the writers, and I think we’ve all agreed there’s only so much you can mine out of this character. Nobody wants to move into the area where it starts to feel stale or the quality starts to drop. Since everything does have to come to an end, we want it to happen in the right way, where we’re in control of it, not a situation where the plug gets pulled. I think it honors the audience this way.”

The eighth season premiere is coming up Aug. 7, and Season 7 will be released on DVD July 21. Among the highlights ahead, he says, is an episode featuring Elizabeth Perkins, “Mr. Monk’s Favorite Show.” “She plays a woman who was a child actor on Monk’s favorite series he watched when he was a child — the only series he watched, a ‘Brady Bunch’ kind of show. As an adult, she’s written a tell-all book that is not at all flattering, and Monk’s image of her is destroyed.” Also, they’ve just finished shooting “Mr. Monk Takes the Stand,” an episode in which Jay Mohr guests as a “super, super strong savvy defense attorney who’s never lost a case, who is defending a criminal Monk knows is guilty.”

MEANWHILE: Shalhoub tells us he’s too “invested and immersed in ‘Monk’ to think much about life after ‘Monk,’” and he’s keeping his options open. But what about reports that have him involved in a possible revival of “Lend Me a Tenor” with Stanley Tucci directing, and T.R. Knight and Alfred Molina in the cast? Their reading of the show a while back was supposed to be hush-hush, but “Grey’s Anatomy” followers keeping abreast of developments in Knight’s departure from that show made it public knowledge.

Notes Tony, “It really is a funny play. We’re going to be doing another reading of it in a few weeks in New York. We’re all taking a hard look at it. No one knows if it’s going to happen for sure. Everyone tiptoes around it for a while.”

Emmy Watch: Guest Star

Excerpts:

QUOTE
For Meat Loaf, who guest starred on USA Network's "Monk" as well as Fox's "House," his reward came in honing his acting chops -- and finding a pianist for his new album. "I had no idea how good a musician Hugh Laurie was, but I watched him play and said, 'I have to get him,' " Meat Loaf remembers, "so I handed him a demo and a note, nothing stalkery, and we've been e-mailing back and forth."

QUOTE
Then there are the producers' penchants when it comes to casting roles. "House," which has featured Meat Loaf, LL Cool J, Mos Def and Carl Reiner this season, has an affinity toward musicians thanks to executive producer Katie Jacobs. "I have a soft spot for them, because there's something they seem to bring to the parts where they are open and unprotected," she says. "They don't have any qualms about giving you their soul." "Monk" attracts actors' actors like Daniel Stern, Steve Zahn and Stanley Tucci and John Turturro, who won Emmys for their efforts. "We have to make up for it in our budget, but I'd always rather have the perfect actor against Tony (Shalhoub)," says "Monk" executive producer Randy Zisk. "I'll take away from equipment and location if I have to."

Eko Meets Monk By William Keck June 23, 2009 10:45 AM EST

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje disappointed Lost fans and angered producers when he asked to be released from his role as Mr. Eko after his parents passed away in 2006. “It was a very traumatic year,” he says. The Brit would now welcome a return to Hawaii and a fat paycheck from ABC. “To be able to give that rich character some completion would be nice,” says Adewale, who stays in touch with fellow Lost corpses Harold Perrineau (Michael) and Dominic Monaghan (Charlie).

Back at work, Adewale has roles in the big-screen “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” and Monk, both bowing August 7. On the final season of the USA mystery, he’ll prove to be the catalyst to Monk unlocking his wife’s murder.

“My character comes from Nigeria to America to find out what happened to his wife, who was killed in a hit-and-run,” Adewale says. “In the process I come across Monk, who lost his wife in a similar manner. It’s a sweet, sad story that reignites Monk’s fervor to solve her murder.”
