I thought season 1 showed Psych to be one of the best shows to come around in a long time. Season 2 seems to have changed and I'm trying to figure out why.
So far the season 2 shows have a different "feel" to them. Are the director or writers new?
I can't really pinpoint it. The episodes just feel looser or a little more goofy than season 1. Lassiter, O'Hara and Vick don't act like serious cops anymore. Its like they are always in a Shawn dream or something (you know where dream sequences have characters that act nuttier than they are in real life). Shawn and Gus and their dialogue seems more amateur'ish. Even camera angles and sound seem off to me.
I tried but I just can't explain how it feels different. Its like they went from more of a funny detective show to a silly detective show. Feels more like Scooby Do than Moonlighting now.
Anybody else get this feeling?

Well, John Landis directed the Premire, and Steve Franks wrote it with James Roday, so no changes there. The second episode was directed by Tim Matheson and written by Steve Franks, both from Series One. Third episode was directed by Mel Damski and written by Andy Berman, both from Series One (Spellingg Bee/Nine Lives and others). Tonight's episode (Fourth one) was directed by Steve Surjik and written by Saladin K. Patterson, the only combination that appears to be new (I haven't seen their names on the episode guide on USA).
I know others feel the way you do. I think it's normal for a show to go through some changes in the second series. I feel like it has to change a little. I just like it as well as I have always liked it.

It was Psych's sole purpose to change for the better...
Now, my personal belief on the matter is that; Yes,the police /cast seems to be "more comical and less intellegent". People may disagree with this but, I would like to see more dialog coming from Chief Karren Vick. Also, I feel that the dialog/acting on the show tends to end too soon, especially during the last miniutes of a episode.(Zero to....seconds) watch shawn and his dialog after the arrest to the end of the episode.
The cast is getting more comfortable in their roles during Season 2. Season 2 may be different in the fact that, the dynamic between Spencer and O'hara hasn't really surfaced. or at least not like it was on Season 1.
Overall, I think the cast is doing a good job! Psych is doing well, and I suspect it can only get better. Better Sets, more guest stars and more humor.

I agree with that. She grounds the cast in good ways.

I can see that as well. I wish the show were longer! Maybe we'll get a bunch of fun deleted scenes in the DVD set

This is true, but I feel like Lassiter and O'Hara are really gelling as partners. I think he trusts her more and looks at her more as someone who can work with him and not just someone to take orders from him. I do miss the banter between Shawn and Juliet, though. Well, it was mostly one-sided, but it was funny.

I agree. Bigger and better things are coming. I can feel it!

I like the "silliness." I'm not sure a show about a fake psychic should feature overly serious cops anyway. And Lassie is dry enough most of the time to maintain an air of legitimacy, don't you think? (Plus Mommy Chief Vick. She IS great. Will we see the little Vick, born at the end of last seen, at all?)
There are enough Law and Orders out there, this is an AWESOME show. Though it may be hard for the writers to ever top the series premiere, this ep-- especially Willy's lingo and "Legislated."--is one of the best ever, in my opinion. In fact, minus his overbite, the guy playing Willy had a great voice and was just very appealing. I hope he has a lot of work. And Johnny G was ez on the eyes!! (HE was a little silly, LOL...)
And I like Juliet's character a lot better this series. She seemed so out of place when they first introduced her after the other gal got "transferred." She's just really gelling now, as someone else said, with the rest of the cast. [LOL... I think her long flowing curls were what annoyed me most in season 1--what female cop is going to wear her hair that way every day? One right out of the Academy, one trying to impress the guys....but her hair looks great now]
And it's kind of reality too, in a way--don't you think? I mean, all cops aren't Joe Friday. Some of them screw up and probably do dumb things, and others are probably seen as the class clown among their colleagues (I'm not talking about anyone on the show). It's all good. It's a break from a bad stereotype, good to see "regular" cops.
So yeah, ep 4 "Zero to sixty" does seem different--- it's definitely one of the best.

In watching the newest episodes, I have felt lately that things were a little "off." Previous to season 2 coming out, I went through and rewatched all the season 1 episodes. There have been some nice moments in this season, but still, it doesn't feel like the cast is quite as comfortable in their roles as they were by the end of last season. Perhaps they just need some time to get settled again.
Was it in season 2 where Juliet hugged Lassiter? That was cute. I'd personally also like to see a bit more of the cop that has guested in random episodes; I think his name was Buzz? The guy that ended up with the "little boy cat" in season 1.

It was in "65 Million Years Off," I believe. I loved that! QUOTE

Buzz McNabb! Sage Brocklebank portrayed Officer Buzz in episode 1: American Duos, episode 2: Sixty Five Million Years Off, and episode four: Zerro to Murder in 60 Seconds.

Hahha, I love him. Especially the scene about Lassiter's coffee, and then when he attempts to ask Lassiter for "wedding night advice."
