RCA's Chris Young Visits Vanderbilt Medical Center For Musicians On Call

Wednesday, July 25, RCA recording artist Chris Young took to the halls of Vanderbilt University Medical Center earlier this month as part of Musicians On Call (MOC), a nonprofit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities. Guided by MOC's Nashville Program Director Katy Brown, Chris went room to room singing songs for patients on both the 6th and 7th Cardiovascular floors.

Patient requests included Chris's own singles, "Drinking Me Lonely" and "You're Gonna Love Me" as well as classics like "Rocky Top," "Hello Darlin'" and "Folsom County Blues." Nurses continually made comments about the positive responses in the patients. "I think I may have had more fun than the patients," says Young, "but it was a joy to walk into those rooms and see the smiles on their faces. I am looking forward to doing it again very soon." The next morning, Chris joined WKDF's Shannon McCombs to talk about his experience with the program which is new to Nashville. KDF's own Dave Kelly is one of the most recent MOC Guide Volunteers. Musicians On Call encourages local musicians as well as national celebrities to volunteer for the program which provides in-room performances for patients undergoing treatment or who are unable to leave their hospital beds Nashville residents, musicians and singer/songwriters interested in volunteering their time and talents or to make donations can learn more about the program by visiting
