Full Version: Lack Of Opening Theme Music A Sad Commentary

What a shame they eliminated the opening theme. Isn't USA and Sci-Fi owned by the same company, and didn't they learn a lesson when they eliminated the opening theme from Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis and got a hugh fan backlash and forced them to put it back?

Interesting that The 4400 still has their opening theme, and it is the same network. Explanation USA?

I always thought that two openings were not necessary. Maybe they could add a little bit back but they've gained more time for the program without commercial time cutting into it.

To be honest I don't miss it at all. And I rather have them spend more time on the actual program if commercials are not cut into that time, then listen to the same tune week after week. After 2 season you know it already. tongue.gif

The episodes are not any longer because the theme music and the saga sale have been removed. There are just more ads. Lucky us.

SciFi and USA are both owned by NBC. I think part of the difference between the fan backlash for the Gate franchise and DZ is the size of the fandom. I've been involved with the Gate fandom. It's huge, diverse and very strong in many parts of the world. DZ is a wonderful show and yes we have foreign fans here but all together we make up a fraction of the voice I think.

Could be Rural, but still I don't miss it, in fact when I watch the DVD boxes after listening to maybe one tune, the rest of the eps I fastforward everytime till I get to the actual content of the show. And maybe not nice that there are more ads, but on the other hand, maybe more ads mean more sales and more future for DZ. smile.gif

I was happy to wave good-bye to the saga sale. If folks don't know what this show is about by now then they really should go back and watch from the start. I liked the original theme music-not the one from 4+5-but the credits needed updating. So, if they didn't want to do that then I'm happy to let go of any theme. When I watch the dvds I rarely watch the credits and never the saga sale.

Quite right, it's just that the Gaters are much more than we Dead Zone fans. Still, I think it was the producers intention, they're making the sixth season like it's the first season, so they're changing the show. It isin't Michael Piller's Dead Zone anymore...

You know I've sat here for a few minutes trying to think of a good reply, but honestly I just cannot come up with one. Basicly the credits were removed so yes they can cram one more commercial down our throats. It's sad that DZ isn't being put out there enough. I came to the DZ fandom 2 years ago by word of mouth from a fellow Gate fan. When TBTB stopped the opening credits I was among those that stood tall to protest. I even created my own credits.....just in case they misplaced theirs and needed a new set. wink.gif It became a contest of sorts....to see who could come up with the best new opening sequence. In the end TBTB had heard enough so they put the credits back in.

Rural is correct. We DZ fans are but a fraction of the SG fandom. Who are we to stand up and protest? Who are we to care that one little piece of the original show is gone? They may just be credits that we fast foward, but they're still a piece of what makes this show so good. Little by little they'll take away what the show used to be until we're left with something entirely new. *has Stargate flashback to seasons 9&10 and is disgusted*

Of course that's just MHO(my humble opinion).

I think it would have been costly to make an entire new saga sale. Plus I agree, if people want to know what this show is about, they should just buy the DVD boxes. *grin* If they don't they're missing out on an awesome series. Heck I got in at season 2, seeing one ep and I just knew I wanted it all. Bought 2 seasons that were out in Holland and after that I wanted to continue watching so bought season 1-4 on US DVD and I'm still buying all seasons both on Dutch and US DVD just so I get both collections complete.
