We're visiting Santa Barbara. Are they filming Psych there? Do you know of any places we could possibly catch a glimpse of filming or locations where they film? Thanks!

I believe season two is being filmed in the Vancouver / White Rock area. The show is just based on Santa Barbara. I might be wrong but, I remember reading it somewhere.

Yep, it says so at the end of the credits. So you can cruise around Santa Barbara but you probably wont see Dulé Hill or James Roday around. Sorry.

I lived in Santa Barbara and it is worth visiting in and of itself! Especially since they fixed up the Downtown area in 1990s.
I wonder how they wear shorts when they filmed in spring time in Canada...it would have been chilly!

Dulé mentioned in the commentary for 'From Earth to the Starbucks' that it was "Colddd" when they filmed the one scene outside of the astronomers house. James added, "Fact. We shot this at 6:02 in the morning and later in the day neither of us could remember having shot it." That coaxed an 'Aww' outta me. I could probably imagine what the weather they have to deal with sometimes is like somewhat seeing that I have to deal with these crazy Chicago winters.
As for shooting in Canada, if you look up White Rock online a lot of the pictures they have posted you see that blue railing that makes many appearances in the show, along with the pier and several other surroundings. It looks like a pretty cool place to visit actually, I wanna go now, seems like a nice little vacation spot...during the right season

They also mention in the commentary how they had to melt snow from a lawn in the Pilot.
Oh, and in 65 Million Years Off, at one point you can see Henry's breath in the air. Must've been cold. ^^

If Dulé and James live in Los Angeles, and I'm pretty sure most of the other Actors/Actresses, then why film it in Canada?
Do the film makers live there?
Or did they just think it'd be easier than Santa Barbara?

It is sooooo much cheaper to shoot in Vancouver than it is to shoot in Hollywood, that it's well worth the money to ship in the cast and house them. The crew is no doubt mostly Canadian. Santa Barbara doesn't have the sort of film facilities that are readily available in Vancouver. It would have been even more expensive to shoot there.

There are several tv shows and movies that shoot in Canada but are suppose to be locations in the US nowadays.

I see.
That's very wise, specially since I didn't know it wasn't Santa Barbara until someone said something. Lol.
Thanks for the info.

That was during the commentary for 'Earth to the Starbucks' talking about not being able to see stars in Jersey. I'm pretty sure Dulé lives in LA, I read an article the other day saying James lives in LA too.

Well, I was assuming they both lived in LA, because in the adresses for the autographs it said that Dulé lived in North Hollywood and James lived in LA.

Guess you don't live in CALIFORNIA, otherwise you would know just how rediculous the prices are for anything compared with most of the country, especially CANADA. CALIFORNIA is lousy with unions as well, paying people to stand around doing nothing.

I live in Santa Barbara (Well technically Goleta but its part of SB) and its the only reason I started watching this show, I have to say I am a little disappointed that they don't mention more real SB stuff (Like we have no SB Convention Center, its called the Earl Warren Showgrounds, and I haven't seen any mention of Isla Vista or UCSB which is a big part of the whole SB community, though I just started watching the show, I am still in the first season). But I can't really complain its awesome to have a show based in SB. I do think someone involved in the show either lives/lived/or just loves it here, you have to have a good amount of knowledge of the place if you are going to write an entire show based in the real city. I have heard they mention Fiesta in at least one of the episodes, which is a real and a pretty big community wide event.

Being from Vancouver here's a little more info regarding filming.
Psych starts filming in April for the summer episodes. Production for the winter episodes wraps in October, as do a lot of BC Productions on cable. The Vancouver area, where Psych films, is very temperate. It doesn't get nearly as cold as the rest of Canada.
Shows are routinely shot in Vancouver and around the province of BC because it's cost effective for producers along with the film and TV production facilities available. The close proximity to LA is also a benefit.
Here is a great
site to learn more about productions in the province and what is currently shooting at the moment.
