Maybe this should be "Upcoming Projects" as well...
Anyway, I was looking through IMdb.com and apparently, Richard Belzer, Dann Florek, and Ice T (including Coco) will be in a film together called Thira, which is due out in September of next year!
http://imdb.com/title/tt0780625/That should be interesting!
Not only that, but Christopher will have 4 movies coming out, although they are all small roles, I think I'm looking forward to Nights in Rodanthe the most- not just Christopher I get to drool over but James Franco too...it would be killer cool if there's a same scene of the two of them!
Oh wait, actually prehaps five for Christopher- in his profile there's a preproduction film called Dirty Movie...hmmmm

Chris is a great talent, and he probably should play a bigger role in the movies that he stars in, but I don't think he really wants to do anything serious because he already does that so much on SVU. I remember him saying once that he wanted to do comedy.

I think that is the worst idea since SVU: The Musical. It is also highly unlikely.
Chris has done an excellent job making sure he is not going to be type cast as Elliot Stabler for the rest of his career. He had a head start on that by doing Oz and SVU at the same time. Distance from SVU and the actors there would be the best thing for both of them.

ICAM! It is high time for Mariska to get used to doing something other than Olivia Benson. I really really really hope they take this Dean thing somewhere because it will give the audience the chance to see a soft versatile OB/MH, something we have not seen in years. Otherwise, MH will suffer the same fate as Lucy Lawless (Xena WP). Lucy has talent up the wazoo, but she is lucky if she can get a guest appearance here and there. Mariska is in danger of her career ending with the end of SVU because people will only identify her with OB, and they will only want to see her kick ass all the time.

I have read that Chris wishes to go back to the stage but Law and Order: SVU takes up all of his time and energy. When you work on a play, your time is pretty much sparse. You work just about every night and it is rather hard to do anything else. According to Reba McEntire that is. She did "Annie Get Your Gun." I am guessing that is why he is taking singing lessons.

Also, as much as the idea appeals to me, I don't see them taking up roles opposite each other in the near future (other than SVU). I'd watch it regardless if they did though.

I doubt they would do SNL together. While they do tend to show up at each other's events, they haven't been doing interviews together for awhile. The Jerry Lewis Telethon was the only thing recently.

I think the singing lessons thing was a joke. I could be wrong about that. But I do know that in one of the interviews he did, it was a joke.
But he'd be great in a play.
And you're right about doing a play or a musical. You have no time for anything else. On Broadway you're contracted do eight shows a week with two days off, and on those two days off you're lucky you have the energy to get off the couch, let alone go do a movie.
Also, as far as the movie issue, I don't feel as though Chris and Mar will do a movie together in the nearest future, but I do think they will eventually do a movie or a show together. Especially if soembody asked them to do it. They love working together. They're like Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore. They worked together forever and then nothing and then they did "The Gin Game" and "Dick Van Dyke Revisited". I mean, even if it's a made for TV movie, I can see it happening.
I don't think that either one of them will ever do SNL- not because they'd turn it down, but they just aren't popular enough. Which is sad, becasue they are so wonderful and very very funny. And I find that anyone who's been acting and taking direction from theater techniques in NYC tend to be the best guest stars on SNL.
The LA based stars tend to read the prompter way too much for my taste. You can't get into a scene if you're looking at the damn prompter the whole time. That's just a generalization, but it has some truth to it.

I was referring to television interviews which they used to do together. Now you get one or the other, not both.
Magazine articles may look like they interviewed them both at the same time. The reporter is on the set and talking to everyone. But they may not have been able to get Chris and Mariska to sit down at the same time. So they talk to them separately but write as though they were there together. There's no way for the readers to know.

I know I know!! I can't believe I even wrote that, but unfortunately it's true. Nobody really knows who Chris and Mar are. Everytime I bring either one of them up in conversation, even to any of my actor/performer friends, I always have to explain what show they're on. It's sad really. Because they're both awesome.
Bu tother then the populatrity contest, they would have to have something big to promote. Like Chris would have to be in a movie as "the Star" not just a supporting role.
The only way I see either one of them making a guest appearance on SNL is during the last season of the SVU. And they'd probably both have to do it.
And on a side note, what does Chris and Mar not doing interviews together have anything to do with them working together in the future? That just means they're on different schedules. Which is good, it means they're busy. It means, they might get work after SVU.
Mar is one of Chris' god parents, so they are obviously good friends. I think they would love to work together in a different atmosphere.

I doubt the interviews are scheduled alone because of their work schedule. Not doing interviews together is a good way to get some distance from each other and the show. The last thing either of them needs is to be welded together in the public eye.
Chris has continually done other work during SVU's run. He won't have any trouble getting work after SVU.
Mariska however has not. She is going to run the risk of being permanently seen as Olivia Benson by the public. Granted she was busy one year with her wedding and another with her pregnancy. But after 10 years in a single role, more if she takes time to have a second child after she is done with SVU, she may well have trouble getting work.

I believe Mariska is a self appointed godparent.
Being good friends with someone does not mean it is a good career decision to work with them. Especially after spending so much time together already. A break from each other professionally is in their best interest.

It's possible that Mariska doesn't want to do anything after this show. She loves her family and her charitable work. I think she spends all of her free time helping abuse and rape victims instead of doing movies, because that's something she found to be more rewarding.
Obviously she loves acting, but I think she's drawn to the idea of changing the world for the better.
I can see her doing a talk show like 'The View' after SVU or even something journalistic or spokespersonish like Katie Currick or Maridith Veria. And I think 'The View' would welcome her with open arms. She's a very worldly kind of woman and a great public speaker. I'd say that kind of work is where she will happily fall after SVU.
She's no fool, if she wanted to be a movie star after SVU, she would have been doing the same thing as Chris.

Godparents are part of the baptism service. They are chosen by the parents but they generally have to be of the same faith of the church which is baptising the child. One of their responsibilities is to promise to help guide the child in their faith.
