I would like to express my views on Jason Gray-Stanford's contribution to Monk, and encourage more fans to do the same. I do not see many posts about him -- and I do not know why. He is a wonderful actor. And that character! Randall Disher deserves a special place in television history. No one since the immortal Don Knotts has played such a part so convincingly. Gray-Stanford is a genius. His deliberately awkward glances, his voice, his occasional outright slapstick moves and those marvelous facial expressions make every episode he appears in fuller and more enjoyable to watch. I wish we could see more of him. I want to thak Mr. Gray-Stanford for bringing this third-wheel zany cahracter to life -- and making my life happier.

Jason is a great actor. The show wouldn't be the same without him. smile.gif

I like "Disher" in the show but I think the show could last without him but it is better with him. He is a great actor but there are alot of great comedic actors on television in my point of view. Just my view though.

I'd like to see him play & sing with his band again. I thought he was quite good at that too!
Does he have a band on the side between Monk season filmings? If not, maybe he should!

Jason is great. Randy is one of my favorite characters. I wait for his scenes in every episode.

I love the shows where he sings. My favorite was the episode where he sings a duet of "Oh Holy Night" at a Christmas party. What a riot! He plays that role so very well. Would the show last without him? Probably. However, he is an essential part of the mix for now, and I would certainly miss him. As we have seen, critical characters can be replaced, but only with caution. The replacements have to be phenomenal. I hope Jason stays.

Jason is the man! When people start knocking his character down for being too stupid to be a police lieutenant, I am the first one who will defend him. Yes, his theories are way off the mark; but his enthusiasm for police only falter twice in his ten years on the force. I love Randy! Stottlemeyer would be lost if he didn't have Randy. You rock Jason!

It's only my opinion but I think Jason was the perfect pick to play Randy. Not only does he make Randy come to life on film but he has provided us with several good laughs. It takes a very good actor to pull off a "Randy Disher" character so convincingly each week and I always wonder what they will have him say or do in each episode. I don't think he could be replaced and I don't think the series would be as much fun if he wasn't in it.

Well... He's funny. Very funny. He sings good. What about his theroris? biggrin.gif They're great and a little crazy , but in every episode I'm waiting for them. I like him, he's making some kinda special atmosphere.

I happen to agree that he really is a great part of the show. We had a Randy Disher Appreciation thread on the board a while back, what was it a year or so ago? Anyway, the show just wouldn't be the same without him. Episiodes in which one or more of the other characters are not seen or are barely seen just aren't as good to me. The best episodes that give all of the characters something to do and a reason for a little more screen time. They all contribute something important to the mix, and the show seems lacking when they aren't there. And as I said in the old Randy Appreciation thread, Randy has skills and does things that impress me all the time, but unless you are looking for them or are a very observant person, you might miss them because they are subtle, and because his accomplishments do tend to be overshadowed by Monks a lot of the time. For instance, I don't think I could tell you what color, make, model and plate number was on a car that was involved in a hit and run accident if I had just witnessed it, let alone been the victim of it. If I had actually been hit by the car, I think I would be doing well to be able to say that a car was definitely involved. And don't even think I might be able to recognize a murderous black widow bride I hadn't seen in six years, I would be lying to myself and everyone else if I said I could.

My boyfriend and I were watching the Marathon on Sunday, and he always said he was not a Monk fan, but I got him to watch it and he ended up enjoying it. He really like "The Dentist" episode, and he felt sorry for Randy when they were not taking him seriously. At least I added another fan to the show!
