Hi Bubba here, hard to believe the first season finale is upon us. Looks like a pretty good one. Can't wait to see.

The day has finally come! Oh man, it is going to be bittersweet. I really hope they come out with season 1 on dvd before the new season starts!! That would be amazing!

Ha, I know I loved the part when Shawn and Gus came running and screaming out of that house.LOL.

And, how about Lassy's new partner, she was funny. smile.gif

Hi Bubba here, I thought it was a good season finale. Mercedes Ruehl was great. I can't wait until July for the new season.

Another great episode. James must have had so much fun writing his own jokes. ^^

Once again Shawn's love of Pinapple rears its head. What a way to pick up girls. tongue.gif

All in all, the episode was great. One of my favorite parts was when Shawn asked Juliet if they could wear pajamas. She said no, and he said 'All the better'. I couldn't stop laughing after that.

Whew. Lots of feelings about this one. It had its share of funny parts, but overall there was a darker theme hovering throughout the episode. I like the way the plot gradually got more and more sinister as the story progressed. Alice's little monologue toward Jules, accompanied by the pitchshifting of her voice, really sent chills down my spine--great effect. I can honestly say it was the first episode I've seen where I've actually felt nervous for the characters.

On the other hand, I had been anticipating the funniest episode of the season--investigating a sorority leads to all kinds of comical potential, and I thought that idea got underplayed. There was plenty of humor, but it served a different purpose--to ease the overall tension building up in the show. In parts where I would normally laugh, I could still feel some of the emotion from prior scenes inhibiting my sense of humor. Some of the transitions and set-ups were great, but the one thing I'm going to remember this episode for is how dark it actually is in comparison to the others, rather than the humor.

Maybe the fact that I watched it all in a dark room by myself late at night had some influence on how I interpreted everything. I don't know--but I definitely think it ventured into some kind of new grounds; and that's fine if they do something new every once and awhile just to mix the flow up a bit, but the episodes I find myself going back and watching over and over again are the more lighthearted ones. That's just my two cents. I guess I'll close by saying I'm relieved that the "What if your best friend..." foreshadowing earlier in the episode didn't amount to anything more than just Gus getting left in the asylum for a short amount of time--at that point, I was ready to laugh again.

Yeah, I was kinda scared for Jules at the end... my heart was racing!! I was in a dark room too, that's how it relates. great episode, good job to James for writing an awesome end to an awesome show!

The new partner was a riot, and when I first saw her I thought that she was a lot like Lassiter, but then as time passed, it became more and more obvious to me that any similarities were superficial only. She was hardly suited to the job, she lacked the mental skills as well as the self control that Lassiter obviously has, and her health alone should have kept her out of police work. Lassiter's obviously in pretty good health and physically fit. She was abrasive, blunt, lacking in the social skills that make us capable of tolerating each other, and Lassiter very often is all of the above but usually not to that extreme and not without reason. And he knows the difference between a victim of a crime and a perpetrater! In my book, that is something a detective needs to have, it's not even close to negotiable.

I felt so bad for him at the end when he was trying to figure out how he was supposed to behave or how to be friendly with someone else because he was looking at himself and did not want to be like her, and then he gave up. But then the smile on his face after Shawn tossed him the fortune cookie was really...I don't know what it was except it was nice. A nice smile and it changed the whole appearance of his face so much. My daughter said, "All together, now....'AWWWWWW!'" She said it was 'awww-inspiring'. Didn't make me want to run out and pet a puppy or anything but I knew what she meant.

And I *loved* the scene where Shawn and Gus both went running and screaming out of the house. Dulé has done that kind of scene a few times on the show and it's always funny the way he does it, but there was something about the way James was jumping up and down and shreiking like that at the same time that actually managed to make it funnier.

I thought I would split a seam laughing when the girls at the sorority asked Gus if he used to play Bud on the Cosby Show and he told Shawn to stop telling people he was Bud, because of the discussion here last year about whether or not he played him, but then when the housekeeper asked him about it later and you *knew* that Shawn hadn't said anything to her about it, I howled! I loved that housekeeper, talking about a bassett hound that looked like a snowy owl and they called it Bassett hound, except for her sister who called it Uncle something or other was so random and weird and funny. And I loved the return of the mythical, but pregnant Mrs. Pickles! The way Gus was carrying on, blubbering about her was great.
MooseyDLK
The housekeeper was funny. And her sister called the Basset Hond Uncle Jimmy. smile.gif

I wonder what Lassirt's fortune said. Maybe something ironic like 'Lighten up', or 'Wisdom can be found in the most unexpected places'.

The episode CREEPED ME OUT, but I agree that it was good to have a change. It is a mystery show, so I think that it was good to have a scary episode.

I was laughing HYSTERICALLY when Shawn and Gus ran out of the building and were screaming and jumping up and down! I don't know when was the last time I laughed that hard. And then Gus drove away without Shawn laugh.gif

I loved the part where Gus was distracting the housekeeper with the cat story. And when Shawn's cell phone went off and he was just standing there letting it ring tongue.gif

I can't believe that Juliet would accept that invitation without taking anyone with her. All of those candles were really freaky. And what were those things hanging from the ceiling?!! They looked like dolls, but I didn't get a good look. It looked like a sacrificial ceremony! Creepy! It's pathetic, but I was like yelling at Shawn, Gus, and Lassiter to hurry up and get to Juliet.

Shawn and Gus started the "Scary Sherry" legend? cool.gif

I know how Lassiter feels a little about how everyone thinks of him. Most people (except my friends) think that I'm either stuck up, or rude because I'm very shy and cautious around people I don't trust. The look on his face when the chief told him that everyone thought that him and the trainie were a perfect match was really sad. But I don't think that he should like try to change himself too much, because that would be someone fake. He looked really happy when he was tossed the fortune cookie smile.gif

I kind of wish that last night's episode aired a little earlier because by 10:00 my house is pretty much dead silent, so I got a little spooked. I'm too old to be scared of the dark late at night when I see something scary, and yet I still am. Oh well. I'll watch the episode tonight at 7:00. It won't be too scary then.

4 months is such a long time, I hope we can make it til then laugh.gif

This episode was too funny. I can see why Shawn and Gus are best friends. I have to say I just love the scene where the two of them runs to Gus' car screaming. Gus screaming is way too funny. I remember the way he came out screaming, from that cage. Oh my, I can't believe he left Shawn - he just drove off, some kind of friend!

The rookie cop was funny as well. I just love the part where she dove over the counter to make the innocent man talk, and the way she ran out of the building to go chase him.

I am laughing so hard right now. I probably will have more to add, once I watch the show again.
asiagurrl
Overall, a very funny episode. Loved the "darker" tone of the plot... made for interesting viewing.

I guess I'm the only one, but I hated the rookie cop. She really annoyed me, and I didn't think she was funny at all. I kept hoping they'd speed through her scenes so we could get back to Shawn & Gus.

I've kinda disliked Juliet from the very beginning... but this episode made me like her a little bit more. There was no (failed) serious attempts at chemistry between her and Shawn... I definitely prefer her in more the "guy's girl" buddy/pal role. This show gave us a glimpse of her humanity and made her seem more of a person and less of a stereotype.

Running out to the car... definitely funny stuff.

When Gus had his foot caught in the floor, and he pulled off his belt and started waving it around, I almost choked from laughing so hard.

And the fist bump for "starting the rumor" was absolutely hysterical!

Psych Out was great, too. I prefer bloopers over singing routines.

All in all... an excellent episode. July seems so far away...

Watched it again during a Saturday night Psychathon (I have all of the episodes recorded), and now have a few more comments. One of my favorite parts was Bianca's half meow. It just sounded so creepy it was hilarious. I could just imagine how many times they would've had to shoot that part to try and keep everyone from laughing. I also liked how Shawn started stumbling for words the first time Alice asked him what he'd do if something happened to Gus--it helped show the magnitude of their friendship, and obviously, it wasn't the kind of thing Shawn would ever want to think about--I thought it was pretty sweet.

On a side note, I was glad that Jules could take care of Alice herself. She is, after all, a cop. I was half expecting her to put up a failing struggle until the people with the guns arrive at the last minute to save the day, like it usually does in Monk--but, fortunately, that was not the case. Then the way Shawn took the axe away was so disturbing yet funny at the exact same time. I loved it.

I totally agree. I don't know if I could have phrased it better myself!

Here are my thoughts:

Juliet is really coming along as a character.

Shawn and Gus are gold and continue to be gold... they make this show special

Lassie has been underused lately buried in silly subplots, almost like he was demoted from his relationship with Shawn. There just haven't been as much use of his character as there was in the first half of the season save the From the Earth to the Starbucks episode. Giving him a new person to interact with is fine but that Mercedes Ruehl character was too over the top on a show that's made it's short lived reputation on being over the top.

I thought the "mystery", crime or plot of this episode was figured out way too easily. It didn't feel like the others. It didn't seem Shawn figured out or "saw" things that really lead to the conclusion that the friend did it. It just seemed too easy to me. One of the things I like about the show is that Shawn helps the Police see and find things that they are unable to enhancing his worth and heightening the comedic value when he (with Gus) has his psychic moment and relays the information to others. I felt like I knew who did it halfway through the episode and that never happens. Maybe I was expecting too much with the last episode. Perhaps I wanted a few more twists and turns for the season finale but it just seemed like "the chase" to solving the mystery was flat in this episode despite stellar performances by Shawn, Gus and Juliet.

There seems to be some discussion on other Psych forums as to the correct name of the season finale. USA Network own episode guide and other credible sites such as TVGuide.com and NBC Universal Village all have the title as "Scary Sherry: Bianca's Toast".

Yet when I come to this discussion thread the title is "Scary Sherry 2: Bianca's Toast". I wonder what the actual title is?

Hmm. I went by my Dish Satellite DVR Program Guide and it had the title of the season listed as "Scary Sherry 2: Bianca's Toast", maybe Admin would know the correct title of the finale.

I am glad to see her doing solo projects. She's in Lassie's shadow and Lassie doesn't really gives her credit for anything.

The rookie made me laugh. She was a tough cookie - very stubborn and very funny!

It would have been fun to see Shawn do a funny psych movement, but I have to say the running to Gus' car screaming, made up for it. Plus, I believe that the episode was about Juliet solving the crime without Shawn's help. If you notice she didn't run out scared after hearing the voice and seeing lamps fall and the lights going out. It was Shawn and Gus that did that. She was the one that went to that building by herself without calling any back up. She didn't even answered Shawn's call, when he called her just before she went in the building with that girl. By the way, the killer was after getting the leader, which was Juliet. She blamed popularity and looks for her friend's death.
