Is the "Starter Wife" essay Contest a hidden beauty contest? Why if we feel FAB after 40 should we have to submit photos? How do contests that aren't marked Beauty Contests get away with requiring photos? If all you want to know is how a woman looks better than the rest, why ask for an essay? I have perfect skin thanks to Noxema, but I shouldn't have to appeal to your judgement of my beauty to win an essay contest! Do you realize how insulting that is?

If a woman's desire is to respond to this contest, should she be concerned with her appearance in regard to the current standard, or will the viewing of her image be individual as well as combined and intigrated with her story and background?

Just curious...

Don't confuse this with the 40s & Fabulous Contest. For Real Life Starter Wife stories, the photo has no bearing on whether your story is selected to appear on the site. We only ask for it to put a face to the story. You can see how they are used here:

But a question I have is: Is the limit 250 for your essay (which I found very limiting) how come you are showing samples of other women's essays who can obviously tell their story in more detail when you have around 500 words and over!!!!!!!!

The "Real Life Starter Wife Stories" has a 1200 word limit. Are you referring to the 40s & Fabulous contest instead?

I guess I am! That was the only contest I found, but then I got confused when the link I mentioned was suggested. So I guess the other one is in fact 250 word limit, right? Will I be able to automatically see that as I type on the screen? (meaning that no more words can by typed) or even though I might be able ot type it all, it might be "cut off" after 250. Thank you very much for your reply!

LOL come on ladies we are in our forties.

When you try to enter the contest it will not let you hit submit if you have over 250 words...so you have to use a word count program...it may let you go over by maybe 25 words though! wink.gif I do think it is very limiting! I had to make my sentences very choppy!

Sir/Madam,

My wife has attempted to enter the starter wife contest fully within the rules of the contest. Your published rules were that the contest would end at 11:59:59PM 3/16/07. We have been trying to post her entry for the last hour. You site now has published that the contest is over long before the deadline.

Please accept this email as her formal submission. The time/date stamp proves that she has sent it in within the rules.

My guess is that your system shut down early because it did not take into consideration the early change to standard daylight time last week

We have sent the entry by regular email to your webmaster and feedback accounts before the deadline. Hopefully the timestamp will speak for itself.

Regards...Unhappy contestant

Contest Judges,

The same thing happened to us! We also tried to enter the contest and tried to load our story and pictures 1 hour BEFORE the contest ended! It was very upsetting that we worked to get this in following the rules and the contest end early. My husband also emailed the webmaster immediately and has recieved no response.
I really would like to send this in.
PLEASE RESPOND!
Cynthia
