"Flipped"
February 13, 2007 GUNNED DOWN RAPPER HAS MAJOR CASE SQUAD TEAMING UP WITH UNDERCOVER "HIP HOP COP" TO SOLVE CASE -- Young rap artist Fulla T Smith (guest star "Fab Five Freddy") is leaving a radio station after finishing an interview and debuting his latest hit song, when shots ring out in the lobby and he's killed. Detectives Logan (Chris Noth) and Wheeler (Julianne Nicholson) question the one witness found on the scene, Harry Williams, (guest star Sticky Fingaz) who reveals he's an undercover cop whose task force specializes in crimes within the rap world. Williams warns Logan and Wheeler to watch themselves, but when he starts helping them out, witnesses turn up dead. The detectives begin to wonder which side he is on. Eric Bogosian and Bokeem Woodbine also star.
Bokeem Woodbine this is episode 14. "Brother's Keeper" is 15, the episode where we can finally see Goren's Brother!!!

Season 1 was great. I didn't like the cop storyline arc this season, but I haven't seen it since then. I usually fall asleep when it's repeated on USA.

Logan the snark machine looks like he's in especially good form so I plan to watch "Flipped."
Chris Noth at least looks like he's having fun this season, whereas Vincent D'Onofrio looks like he can't wait to get in 5 full seasons of work so he can start collecting residuals from syndication showings of LOCI.

I liked the cop at first, but it fell apart fast. When they got to the end, it was like the writers realized, "oh, crap! We're down to our last 10 minutes of this arc, OMGWHATSHOULDWEDO?!?!?!?!?!?! um, okay, we'll have Cuddy lie on the stand. Oh, and by the way? Shows start getting residuals after 100 eps. VDO is already collecting. VDO looks like he can't wait to leave the set because he is so friggin embarrassed about the lines he has to read!!

And of course Chris Noth looks like he's having fun. He comes on an already established show playing a character he created years ago and reaping the big pay check that VDO and KE have worked their butts off for 4 years to achieve. He doesn't have to sweat out the kinks of a new show, he just has to show up and be the same Logan he was when Orbach was the star only this time he gets to echo all of Lennie's lines. I'd be having fun too!

If Vincent D'Onofrio is already collecting residuals and still looks and acts the way he does, then I'm more concerned than ever about the fate of Goren and LOCI. Monetary compensation as motive I can understand, but not what I've been seeing so far this season. The plot does thicken.
In Chris Noth's defense, let me say he worked his own butt off on the original L&O. If he's the beneficiary of D'Onofrio's health problems and his presence has kept LOCI afloat, good for him. I still enjoy watching someone who appears to be enjoying himself much more than someone who's bored, embarrassed, or whatever.
However, if as a result of D'Onofrio's lighter workload we're going to continue to get what we have been getting so far, then I would shed no tears if NBC pulls the plug on LOCI once and for all. Then everyone can collect their residuals while I watch the LOCI episodes from its glory days on DVD, USA and Bravo.

Whatever is happening to VDO, I'm just hoping it's written in whatever evil script that's been dug up by WL this season. I might be VDO's biggest fan, but I'm also the biggest critic on this board and I've been screaming about his character for a season and a half now.
If I remember correctly, Noth again, showed up on an established show, replaced an existing character and had to do the running and jumping cause Lenny didn't do the physical. Logan was second snark on the show.
I don't know if it's the result of VDO's lighter work load or some vision that tptb have for him, but hopefully, VDO will be out of his coma by the end of the season, his balls and personality intact. Won't know til then.

If Goren doesn't come out of his coma or whatever else is ailing him, the writers might just as well pencil in a scene where he gets an adjoining room to his mother at Carmel Ridge until she finally gives up the ghost. Maybe Mom's giving up the ghost will awaken and re-vitalize Son. If not, it's lights out.

Well, that seems to be where it's going. If they choose to make Goren go insane, they've certainly set the pace early enough so that it won't be a shock. I'm at a loss to figure out what it's all about. There's been so many different theories and quotes about it. VDO on the today show saying Goren is slowly going insane. WL in some interview saying Goren won't be the smartest person in the room anymore. VDO's health. VDO's aging. The overall change in CI this season. Take your pick. I can't figure out if the tics, aging, rocking, lack of brain and balls is how it's written, or if VDO is just burned out. I've seen it happen to an actor before doing a weekly series and I'm sure it will happen again. My biggest hope is that Brother's Keeper will ignite some spark in him and he'll be back to his old self (or somewhere near that).

I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but if LOCI gets all of Goren's skeletons out of his closet, showing his mother, having his brother show up etc., it looks and sounds too much that the final chapters of Goren's saga are unfolding. And this bothers me a lot because a great deal of Goren's appeal in the past is that a great deal of his life is a mystery. We got to know some details, slowly, in small amounts, but we also got to see how he overcame his obstacles (such as dealing with a mother with schizophrenia) without drowning us in melodrama or overdosing on the intricacies of his personal life and struggles.
However, along comes Season 6 and suddenly everything has changed. Goren no longer seems in control of himself or his past or his feelings. It makes the desk-clearing scene in "The War At Home" seem so out of place. And the facial and body tics, the shaking, the sloppiness of wardrobe and general appearance, and overall dullness of expression are getting difficult to watch. Are we supposed to believe that everything is going to be explained and will turn out all right when all the evidence presented so far contradicts any hope of a positive outcome?
I want so much to see the quirky and animated Goren of seasons past, but I'm afraid that's not what's in store for him.

Welcome to my world, and a lot of other people's here too! We've written volumes on this already, Choc. Some of us are in denial but others, like myself, are horrified. What's left after this season's unveilment?? Absolutely nothing. I just can't see how they can follow this chosen path and then expect Goren to be Goren again when it's all over. So I too believe this is the end of Goren.
Fabi has started the eppy of the week club which has been a great comfort to me and others to discuss the greatness of the first 4 seasons and try to forget the soap opera of season 6.
After watching Albatross last night for the second time and watching Smothered this morning, probably for the 20th time, has me in a state of shock to even believe these are the same 2 shows.
Since I haven't a clue what WL has in store for Goren and I am powerless to do anything about it, all I can do is sit and wait til the end of the season and hope that there's something to applaud at the end. Til then, I will post my depression on these boards and commisserate with the others here that feel the same way.

I watched "Crazy" and a couple other season 1 episodes yesterday. "Enemy Within" and whatever else was on the disc with it. So I really do get what you guys are saying about the coma thing. He was all over the place in the early episodes, in perps' faces, head-tilting into their personal space and everything. It stopped. Where the hell did it go?
The one redeeming quality to the desk-clearing scene in TWAH was the way he did it. It was kind of like the way he nervously looked over his shoulder in F.P.S. after throwing the paper ball at Eames' chair. It was a tantrum, but it was the most low-key tantrum ever, and it still felt more like it fit with the character, rather than it was just low-key because he's a zombie. I think Chocolic was right about the actual act being out of place, but at least they executed in character. I don't know if that made any sense, normally I'm a pessimist. My optimism is relative to the fact that the pessimist job was already taken when I showed up.
Gorenfan--in a couple weeks, when I finally realize oh crap, I'm all caught up with every episode, I've seen them all, I'll probably snap out of my denial and become woefully depressed like you. And it's also like fake enthusiasm leads to real enthusiasm. Fake denial leads to real denial...? I have no idea. There are still 2 season 1 episodes I've never seen, plus some season 3 I saw once and don't remember seeing. But once I realize the only new CI I've got left is coma-CI, then there will be no more keeping up the charade.
