OK, I'll bite! The bait has been dangling in the pond for a while, and I just couldn't decide which one to try, so I'll just take one big gulp and swallow all of them. Then, yes, I will be ready for my skinning which I know will be coming.
On the many rumors circulating throughout this board over the past week:
Rumor #1 : Whitney has an attitude.
I am from that small Scotts Hill town where Whitney grew up. We actually went to school together, but I would not have considered us friends. I was four grades ahead of her (K-12 school), but none the less, I was able to watch her grow up and perform at school talent shows and such. Yes, she was beautiful and popular in high school, but she was also one of the nicest, most down to earth girls. Yeah, there was a lot of jealousy back in those days too, but she always handled it with grace. I know this because some of that jealousy was dished out by my friends, and let me tell you, it never got them anywhere.
My adminration for Whitney began when my little brother was in 3rd grade. He had Whitney's mom for a teacher and Whitney would often stop by the classroom. My little brother was a overweight third grader that lacked confidence, but he always thought Whitney was the greatest. That year at the school talent show, Whitney dedicated a song to him in front of the whole school audience. Suddenly, my little brother was the "stuff" in his 3rd grade classroom to have a high school girl dedicate a song to him. It was really no big deal to Whitney, but my brother still mentions it today. This is just one example of Whitney's sweetness.
Rumor #2 : Whitney is all blond ambition and nothing else.
Whitney is not only talented, she is also very smart. She shatters every dumb blond comment that is uttered. She made excellent grades throughout school and graduated in the top of her class.
Today, she has made a name for herself through her talents as a singer/songwriter. 20,000 people auditioned for NS5. Whitney made it on the show, and yes, she is still on the show in the top six. She recorded a video with Kenny Rogers on a song that she co-wrote, and she performed at Country Music Festival. If she wasn't talented, she would not be where she is today. For the record, even if I didn't know Whitney, I would absolutely love her original song, "Skinny Dipping." In my
opinion, it is radio ready.
Rumor #3: NS5 is rigged.
If NS5 is rigged to showcase Whitney to the world, the producers are doing a poor job. After having to change songs at the last minute, the producers still decided to place Whitney as the last performer of the night last Thursday. Whitney's performance last Thursday was not her best, but it was not from swapping songs at the last minute. I believe it was from sitting there all night preparing to be sent home. That look on her face was pure nervous emotion. (I already know most of you feel that she should have been prepared for that, but remember, Whitney had two roadblocks Thursday night that the rest of the contestants didn't have.) If the contest was rigged, Whitney would not have been nervous. She would have had nothing to be nervous about.
Something to think about: I can tell that many on this board support Chris from last season. By saying that this contest is rigged, you are taking away from his victory last year.
Rumor #4: Nashville Star is a vocal competiton.
The show's title speaks for itself, "Nashville
STAR." The purpose of the show is not to find the best singer, but to find the next star. Yes, the next star has to have an excellent singing ability, but he or she also has to be able to entertain an audience, look the part, and be what America wants. I am not saying that I agree with this, but the bottom line is this. If a person wants to be the next best thing, he or she has to fit into the mold of what the general public wants. It is the mainstream audience that buys the records and tickets to the concerts. Whitney has more "Star" qualities than the other contestants. All of the contestants have wonderful voices, but only two in my
opinion have what it takes to be a Star. If the NS5 is only about vocals, it should be on the radio instead of TV, and yeah, you would probably have more fat, ugly people in the competion. Last time I checked, none of the contestants are fat or ugly this year. Why? Fat and ugly does not sell albums.
Lastly, just a thought, if Whitney goes home next week like so many of you want, who will you have to b*tch about. This board reminds me of tabloid news. You spread a little dirty gossip, and turn someone into the next big celebrity. Whether you hate her or not, you all probably know more about her than the other contestants, and you certainly spend more time talking about her that any of the other contestants.

Ok I'm taking each section and commenting
1)Ok , you are right it was a sweet thing to do but when you come on to a national stage with this , I don't want to say attitude but arrogance, That hear I am watch me shine. Almost like she proud she didn't have to earn the trip but was picked.
2)First , I don't remember anyone posting that she's was stupid. Or anyone insulting her intelligence, what I do think is you missed what folks where say about the audition. Yes she showed up with 20,000 people but was invited , added later to appear :what does that mean: add later.
3)Why would the judges , Ana , make a big deal out of having to switch songs , mid week. Again as a pro and performer Whitney had a chance to shine under pressure and blew it.The judges DID NOT GIVE HER THE SONG IT WAS ON THE LIST SHE GAVE TO THE PRODUCERS OF THE SHOW IN DEC. So , what she lied when she said she knew it. That's what alot of people have a problem with. That she couldn't step up and that it became a big deal when its not. If that's not someone on the show trying to protect nor promote her than I don't know what you call it. And over the past seasons, a number of finalist have had to switch songs nothing was made of it.
yeah we are,, but only if things work out like most of s are afraid they will. If Whitney is kept on that show after they way she acted before singing and the way she sang. What are we to think!?!
4)So let me get this straight, Wynonna doesn't sell albums , Mary Chapin Carpenter doesn't sell albums.

Think again, I agree this show is called Nashville Star and that to be a star you HAVE TO HAVE TALENT (MORE THAN WHITNEY HAS SHOWN ON THE SHOW) , APPEAL (WHICH SHE DOES, WON'T ARGUE ABOUT THAT ONE) AND THE UNTANGIBLE ELEMENT (WHICH IN MY OPINION, AS A PERFORMER, AND CONSUMER, SHE DOESN'T HAVE). Not all the winners of NS have had all three : prime example ErikaJo , a kid who ,somehow, won and didn't have the tools to take the next step.As to your claim has to fit into so predetermined mold or such, no they don't. But they do have to appeal to the general public as an artist, actress/actor, performer.
So, while I commend you for backing your friend , look at it from an unbaised point of view. She blew the chance set before her and had to have a couple judges try and protect her. Will it work , won't it work don't know but what I do know is , if Whitney stays while one of the others , who were better, and at times much better goes home , this show is rigged. And you can't argue with that point .
