Have all the writers gone mad this season? I certainly hope that the Dead Zone and House don't turn out to be disappointments like Psych and Monk. I hesitate to say anything too negative since I have already been "dissed" for my observation of Monk and for using the "r" word (retarded). I did not mean to sound so negative, but the opening season episodes are quite different from anything from last season. Usually "different" is not bad; but this season "different" is definitely not an improvement.
Now I have grown to like Psych very much. I think that the two main characters are great together. They feed off of each other and Gus has the most expressive eyes and facial appearance since Levar Burton. He and Shawn are dynamic together. But don't you think that the writers are pushing it over the edge a little when Shawn says that Gus can't speak English well, so they go into the dumb "clucking" together. And who would need to help usher a "hedgehog" or was it some other kind of hog into the world? Let's be real! I'd like to see some better writing in the series.
And the old police officer---why was he acting so weird? Okay, I'd better leave that along before I get into more trouble.
I like these shows---or rather I liked these shows when they were on last season. I was thrilled when they came back on. But I am definitely not pleased with the way the script is being written.

Well, I kind of agree w/ you, and I kind of don't. I do think that tonights eppy was a little weird, but sometimes shows have akward episodes that don't match the other ones. I think that they rapped up the end a little fast. Tonights episode didn't seem to have its same "perkiness" either.
Just a note: the officer was acting weird because he had alzeimers ( is that how it's spelled?), so he was losing his memory.
On the other hand, it did have some funny scenes. I liked when Shawn was "talking" to Mike on the flyer ( even though it was a little cheezy haha). And the part where Shawn let Gus talk to that lady ( I'm getting so tired, I can't remember her name), and she was saying how mature he is now, while he's up on the table doing weird little skits. The plot kept me guessing too, and I like that.
Okay, I'm too sleepy to remember what else happened, so I'll shut up now.....
I hope that the next eppies are better.

I think silly_slicker did a good job of answering your questions.
The old police officer did in fact have Alzheimer's disease. I know that because my grandma has it and also they said so in the episode. He was in the early progression of it.
The "hedgehog" was actually a Warthog.
I get where your coming from with your thoughts and all..
but Psych is supposed to be random like that (it always has been) and I think they did put a more humor into the premiere.
In my opinion, I thought it was a great episode but you do make very good points with your thoughts.
Hope that helped a little.

Honestly, I thought the "native speak" was the funniest part of the episode. As soon as Shawn and Gus started going at it, I almost literally bust a gut. And I'm the person that doesn't show much emotion while watching something - the most you might get out of me is a smile every once in a while.
I don't think this episode was any weirder than the others. I mean, the show's always been "out there" - the civil war reenactment, the "little boy cat," the guy with a dual personality - but I think that's what's so great about the show. Sometimes it's just so dang ridiculous you can't help but laugh at it. But maybe I appreciate that kind of humor because I myself tend to be a bit "out there." *lol*

Thank you! I could not have said it better myself. The show is great because it is different and it is out there and I wouldn't expect anything less, but I do notice that the interaction between the characters are a bit different than in the first season.

it was a warthog, not a hedgehog, and anytime an animal like that gives birth in a contained environment, there will be veterinarians (sp?) present to ensure nothing goes wrong with the birth... the slightest bit off and it could be fatal for both mama and baby... and the native tongue thing, that was Shawn being his usual self to throw Gus off. i thought the epi was fine, i enjoyed it
