Meg Allison did a great rendition of "Oh Atlanta". I find it hard to believe Randy hasn't heard this song before. He should listen to Alison Krause's Live CD. Nashville needs to recognize it's roots and let these talented people sing Bluegrass and original country songs, not just the Southern Rock and Current pop country.

I agree! I posted a note about Randy's comment on the main board and so far have gotten lots of good feedback (from both sides).

Keep to your strenghts Meg you may not win the show, but will win a great following. After all, none of the past winners with exception of Buddy Jewel have been heard from since. All the non-winners are having the best success in the industry Miranda, Amy Chappel, Jason Evers.

Thank You for having the courage to try!

I'm with Randy on this. I had never heard the song either. I do not like songs that just repeats themselves over and over. I love the old country, but this is 2007 and we are no longer on old country. I think you have a great voice, but to me its not a country voice. Of course thats just my opinion. unsure.gif

Well, I personally loved it! I'm a huge Krauss fan and think that Meg did it justice! Keep up the good work, meg! We were at the show tonight..you looked stunning..and my four year old daughter sang along with ever word you sang! She loves you and loves your voice! her words were..."she's better than Kathryn McPhee...haha wrong show, I know..but that's an enormous compliment! God Bless! tongue.gif

I agree with you. Sounds like a classical voice to me. I think she would sound good singing Martina McBride "There You Are".

I agree with you quadmom......I do think I heard more of her voice tonight than last week. I had not heard the song & I think Randy is beginning to come out with some strong remarks. I hope the judges get better each week as well as the contestants. I wish Blake would stop talking about them being too ugly etc, but maybe he does that for Miranda. He seems like a jokester!! biggrin.gif

I absolutely can not believe Randy hasn't heard the song before. I have personaly heard the song many times most notably agian by Allison Krause. It is a wonderful song and a great choice by Meg. I am taken back by Randy's comments and his ignorance of the song. I pray that it dosen't discourage Meg in the competition, I diffiently look forward to seeing her continue in the competition.

Does Randy only listen to his own music?

How does he NOT know "Oh Atlanta"?

RIDICULOUS.

If Meg had sung her ABCs, she would have sounded incredible. This girl has SO much talent. It's a wonder she doesn't have a record deal yet.

Get with it, Randy.

I'm guessing that some people don't listen Allison Krauss songs all the time. Randy is roots from harmony singing. If you love harmony thats what you tend to listen to and it doean't really stand out in some bluegrass music so I can see why he has not heard it. He is kinda busy man also.

I figured out what happened. Randy has been sleeping for the last 25 years. He's been in hibernation and that would explain all of his hair and the jacket he wore last night and why he has never heard that song before. I'm sure he's heard it, it's just that his hair was covering his ear hole.

When the camera goes over to him, doesn't it seem like he just woke up from a nap? He's like, "grhggdaj, what? oh, Meg, well, i've never heard that song before, because I've been in hibernation, I'm actually 162 years of age" It always takes him a few seconds to get his bearings and then he comes up with something to say. I keep waiting for him to just yell in a Will Ferrell like voice, "Please stop singing, I'm so tired!"

Also, try to picture Randy Owen checking the message boards in between naps. That big scragly guy in front of a lap-top, "Well, I wonder how I'm coming off in the show." And of course, he's still wearing that jacket. He has pants and a robe made out of the same material. A coffee cup that's just wrapped in the extra fabric from his coat, pants and robe.

As long as I picture, for the rest of the show, that every time the camera goes to Randy Owen, that he just woke up from a nap, I will be forever entertained. Go ahead, try it, I gaurantee you'll love the show more.

Well, actually I never heard it before either but am not a big Allison Krause fan. I would like to hear you do more traditional country also. You do have an excellent voice.

Windy14,
Nashville is not Chicago and most southern people have manners, just a thought. sleep.gif

DixieLady,

Do they not have a sense of humor? Many do. I received a few PM's from "southern people" telling me how funny they thought that was. Had I made a viscious attack of Mr. Owen, you'd be right about the manners thing. But it was a joke, and message boards are supposed to be fun... maybe stop taking everything so seriously? just a thought.

If I had a coffee cup and it was "upholstered" in the same fabric that my robe and pj's were made out of...OMG, I don't think I could be a happier girl! Especially if they were all velvet...Elvis would be so proud! I don't know though, Windy...Randy seems more like a "long john, thermal underwear" kinda guy. Whatever...it's an amusing thought!
