UnderfundedDarryl Freehorn is a lowly Canadian Secret Service agent (yes, they have one too) on a mission: he's out to get some respect. Caught between working with top US Intelligence officials and his budget-conscious boss back in Canada, Darryl finds himself solving world-threatening conspiracies on a small-time budget.
Mather Zickel stars as the agent whose brilliance in the field compensates for the woefully underfunded agency's lack of resources, both high- and low-tech. As he goes about his duties, the constant indignities he faces as a result of his agency's inadequate budget causes him much frustration with comedic results.
Underfunded is penned by Ross Abrash and David Breckman -- a MONK staff writer and the brother of Monk creator Andy Breckman.

I haven't read anything about this. The previews look good. Is this possibly going to be a new series?

I heard this is the pilot episode and if there is enough interest they'll show the season.
The episode seems to be shot in Canada and all the cities and places are all real.
Its a good pilot but there needs to be more Canadian references. If Mr Abrash and Mr Breckman needs ideas, they can PM me.

WOW!!!! This show was alot better than i thought it would be. It looked good from the trailer i saw about a week ago but this was just amazing. It had everything in it. COuld characters that you just imagine how they will grow along with a great story line with endless possibilities of plots. Congrats USA network on what looks like another hit!!!

Way to go on Underfunded!!! Best I've seen in a long time. Original, humorous but not slapstick or stupid. Perfect combination of 007 meets real-life challenges on multiple levels. PLEASE make this a series!!! I'd watch every one.
Thank you!

LOVED it! Established strong characters, but also gave them great potential for development. If made into a series, would definitely watch on a regular basis.

A good show all around. Compares very favorably with "Adderly", a mid-80s CBS late-night import from north of the 49th parallel. Check it out at

I just watched the premier on DVR and I loved it! In fact, I liked it so well that I joined this message board, something I have never done before, in order to express my delight for the show. I also wanted to find out when it will be on so that I could set it up as a series recording on my DVR, (and I promise to watch the comercials so that USA can make more mone to fund the show.)
That was a great show! Very funny, and the actors, for the two lead characters in particular, were excellent. I have to say though, the thing I thought one of the funniest things was the English and French name plates on the doors of the Canadian Secret Service's office! Nice touch. Good Work! Tres, tres bon!

This movie was great and should made into a series for sure. I am a huge fan of Panou
www.panou.net who played Agent Riggs in this. The fact that this was shot in Canada is fantastic and the locations looked beautiful. The whole thing was just slick and well done. USA Network look at how much people liked this, big hint "You have a winner with this as a Series"

OK, I know I already posted once, but I just said I liked it. I decided to come back on and say why... First off, the spoof on other spy shows was great. I also loved the Canadian jokes--my mom is Canadian so I could really appreciate them. The whole episode was great, but it was the first scene in the first 5 minutes that really got me hooked. The other people shooting automatic weapons, and he is firing back with a hand gun -"underfunded"- hilarious, it totally sucked me in. I hope to see more. Anything we can do to help get the ball rolling to make it a series?

This is a great show. My entire family loved it. We loved the trailer. Heck, even before we saw the whole trailer we loved the idea of the show! And when we actually saw the show we were not disappointed. It is great. Funny. Smart. But then we started looking to see when the series itself would actually begin, and we find out here that Underfunded may never become an actual series. Okay, NOW we are disappointed.
Please make this into a series. This is the first post I have ever made to a forum like this. I registered just to urge the network to pick up and continue this series. It has such great potential. Thanks.

Hi
I’m a huge fan of Monk—there’s nothing else really like it. The episodes keep on getting better. This new show, UNDERFUNDED, is EXCELLENT, SUPERB. If it were made into a series (which I really hope will happen), I would probably like it just as much if not more than Monk. The 2 shows have one thing in common: uniqueness. There’s nothing really quite like them.
Whether by brilliant creativity or luck, I think USA Network has come across a new series concept destined to be a major hit. The previews were enough alone to peak my interest. I’m always up for a good spoof of the popular police/agent action series, which is what it first appeared to be. After watching the whole movie, I concluded it accomplished that as well as a whole lot more. It ended up being such a nice blend of action and mystery as well as the good Canadian humor.
One nice thing, among many, about Underfunded is the light-hearted atmosphere with smiling characters compared with most mainstream action series with thick atmospheres and cold serious business/law. I think it could appeal to a large variety of audiences. As for being “politically correct,” it’s quite sound as far as I can tell. It effectively utilizes most of the aspects of real life while having the crucial balance with fantasy that makes it a very entertaining as well as believable.

I can't say how much I enjoyed this movie, please make this a series. I thought it was a pilot and have been looking for the air date, only to find out it was a movie. If this gets picked up I'll be there watching. USA hasn't failed us with original programing yet, so far it's been great.

I am so disappointed this is not a series. It is not perfect, there were some hilarious green screen gaffes and the plot was a bit thin in spots, but I can see the value in the CHARACTERS and just know that this show could develope into another Monk. Unlike Psyche, which took me a while to warm up to, I immediately took a liking to these quirky characters. The only thing that saved Psyche for me was the premise, and Gus.
If anyone is looking at these boards, my daughter and I would be thrilled if you turn this into a series. We can not exist on Monk alone. Which is, btw our favorite show on television.

This was a horrible movie. The premise of it was pushed so far it didn't even have a chance of being funny. None of the locations were accurate. And his catch phrase was beyond stupid. The point of trying so hard to make everything look Canadian was ridiculous. People said they liked the Canadian Humour...Guess what, that wasn't Canadian humour. That was Canada taking another one on the chin for someone elses entertainment. Just because Canada knows how to laugh at themselves, doesn't mean they don't ever get sick of hearing it. Oh, and P.S. Canada doesn't have a secret service agency, and they don't say "eh".

Naturally there must be a devil’s advocate at some point. Nonetheless I still loved the movie. It was hilarious and entertaining. The feedback from Canadian viewers on this thread appears to be quite positive.
Morganais, nice poll question. As of now, 33 vs 1 for those in favor of making this a series.
Guys in charge, are there any updates available on the likelihood of the movie reaching the status of “series” or perhaps “miniseries”?

Underfunded has quickly become one of our favorite shows. We hope USA will pick this show up for a series. It reminds me of an older tv series from the 1990s Due South, a wonderfuly Drama-Comedy and so is Underfunded. We love love love it! we also love Monk & Psych, great shows.

Ah, another brilliant piece of work with David Breckman written all over the script. I hope this will not be "underfunded," but added to the USA Network line-up of new series.... and none too soon. It is funny and intelligent. definitely 5 stars.. Thanks mucho.

I thought it was a very entertaining program and I hope it becomes a series. Where will they post information about the program if they decide to make it an ongoing series?
And yes, who can we contact to let USA know they have our support?
They need characters? They have characters!
It was like a poor-man's Bond.
No, they didn't have anyone do any "Great White North" accents, hosers. And frankly, I couldn't tell that anyone had any accents other than a Mid-Western. But that could be worked out in a series if that was a 'real' issue.
I enjoyed the program and the cast was quite good.
And how many people have had managers like his?
"Who needs that internet thing anyway? But at least we have heat!" *sigh*
I hope they make it into a series and I hope we don't have to wait long for it.

Oh, and P.S. Canada doesn't have a secret service agency
Essentially, yes, they do. It's called the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
...and they don't say "eh".
What Canadians do you listen to? In Southern Ontario, where I visit friends a lot, I hear it fairly often. Not every other sentence, but certainly quite noticeable.
This seems like a great concept for a show - or even if it stays as just a pilot. I make short films in my spare time, and our first effort was a CSIS meets CIA comedy. It flopped; and from what I'm hearing, Underfunded hasn't. I need to catch this the next time it comes around, or if it's released to DVD - again, either as part of a television show season or as a standalone movie.

I hope that USA chooses to pick it up as a regular program.

I was just watching Reno 911 and seeing the actor who played the DA is the main guy in Underfunded and it reminded me that I hadn't seen this. Does anyone know if USA is planning to show it again or if they picked it up? I thought that the premise of the show was hilarious and the US-Canada relationship reminded me of Due South, which was awesome.

With the second most viewed and the first most replied, (about 20-25 more than any other topic), I think its a good bet that the show would be a hit. I still hav'nt seen the movie but we still talk about it at work. Then again there are the stupid DS's in the top office, WB not USA, whom killed off Fire Fly and that even went on to become a pretty big silver screen hit. Cross your fingers and hope for the best, I just want to see the first screening of Underfunded on TV!
PS. The only reason I have an account on this MB is to reply to the people for Underfunded!
