Eight episodes a season!!!??? Need I say more? I look forward to Monk and only am rewarded with eight measly episodes? It would be nice to know what the problem is, but I am sure it will probably come down to money.

This is only the first half of the season. The next half starts in January, I believe. There are 16 episodes in a season.

Actually there are sixteen episodes per season...they are broken up into two parts..usually nine in the summer and seven in the winter, this way we don't have to wait too long for new episodes to come around. This season there is only eight because of the Christmas episode in December> I am betting that will be my best present . I can understand how hard it is to wait for new episodes to roll around though.

I had asked what it meant that next week was the "season finale". Is this it? July 8,,15,22,29 and August 5,12,19 and 26.
Then I saw someone had posted that this is half a season and the other half begins in January 2006...is that correct? Where do the producers give us that information?

It is so horrible to have the season broken up into two parts, why can't it continuous?

Because during the first season it was shown all in one block and people complained about how horrible it was to wait so long for new episodes.
Tony Shalhoub said:
"The advantage of airing them in two blocks is that viewers don't have to wait so long before new episodes come along. They get fewer at a time, but the alternative is airing all 16 and then having people wait nine months for the new ones to come along. The way we do it now is that only four months go by before the new shows start airing. It feels like a long time because the show's so damn good, I guess."

Spiltting up the season is also done financially. According to the WGAw, cable TV doesn't have the money the Networks do. Broadcast TV rely on commerical advertising whereas Cable TV revenues come primarily from subscriptions. The Dead Zone does the same thing, they split their season. It's all about money, or the lack of it.

I kindda like the way they split it up as waiting for new episodes is easier on me not having to wait so long in between. This year what a nice Christmas present...a new Monk episode!

I agree, it is better not to have to wait as long in-between!

yeah- i like not having such a long wait also- besides the advantage it gives the actors is that they can do other things and come back fresh for monk-- the advantage for US- is that they won't get ' tired' of playing the role so quickly and won't to leave-- so as long as tony s is happy this way - so am I!!

Hi all,
As a fan of "The Shield," too, I can see the advantage in this. It seems it took forever for Season Four to begin on that show. It finally did begin on 3/15/05. It ended on 6/14/05. That show's fans are right now not even halfway through about a nine-month wait for Season Five to start (probably in March '06 or thereabouts). By then, I wouldn't be surprised if some fans forget things they need to remember from the previous season . . . or lose interest.
I favor the "Monk" method.

You guys are right! Law and Order SVU must have about a billion episodes on every day. We don't even get a rerun every day!And I did realize the small number of shows per season. Especially this one. Then they make you wait 6 months for a new season! What are they doing with their time?!

Did you happen to see seasons 2 and 3 in first run or repeats or on DVD? This is the 3rd time USA has shown "Monk" in half seasons.
