From The Connecticut News
On "Monk" (USA, 10 p.m.), our man Monk (Tony Shalhoub), along with co-sleuths Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) and Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford), is asked to attend the rehearsal dinner for Natalie's (Traylor Howard) brother and his soon-to-be wife. It's unclear exactly why Monk and the police fellows are invited - but it's a good thing, because Monk later tries to prevent a killer from spoiling the wedding.

What to watch this weekend
• Monk (USA, Friday, 10 ET/PT) goes to Natalie's brother's wedding and runs into Emmy-nominated Two and a Half Men star Holland Taylor. Sight unseen, the comic possibilities inherent in matching Taylor with Tony Shalhoub make this a Monk you don't want to miss.
Raven
I just hit "search" on our TV,looked up Monk to see what it was about, and the explanation was a big spoiler! Big plot give-away. Sure wish I hadn't read it!
Teresa1643
I hope they didn't reveal who the killer was. That would really bite.

I can't wait until tonight-- monk will be great- he always is-- wonderful-- teehee- i am ready for some laughs

This episode was great. Very entertaining. I'm liking Disher more and more as the episodes go on. He had some great scenes in this episode, love the end where Stottlemeyer is trying to carry him to the reception hall. I loved the bits about the stripper, I was in fits of laughter when Monk was telling him to come with him too. And the part where he throws his shirt to Monk was hilarious. The mystery was exciting too, but I pretty much knew who the murderer was the second they showed the character, but then so did Monk, so I suppose that was intentional. Very funny episode.
Raven
No, they didn't give that away, thank goodness. It was what happened to Randy.
Great episode! The Captain was so good with Adrian, getting out Adrian and Trudy's wedding album. That was so sweet. He knew just the right thing to do to get Adrian out of his depressed mood.
Wasn't it hilarious when the garter fell onto him?
I also really enjoyed seeing Natalie's family. Who'd a thought??
Natalie is one tough cookie when she needs to be.
I was happy to see more of Randy.
Mel
I really like this episode! More Randy...which is a good thing! The parts with the stripper and Monk were great. I also loved the end.
daramonk
Does anyone know who played the bride?
What is the actresses name?
Renee27
I thought the plot was weaker this time than it has been in a while. Not up to the "Mr. Monk and Mrs. Monk" standard, that's for sure. But there was some great Stottlemeyer/Disher drama (who else melted when S. called him "son"?) and some great laughs, so it was pretty good on the whole.

Can't wait for next week -- Monk backstory ALWAYS makes for a strong episode!
Prissy
Does anyone know why next week is the season finale? It is so short-why? It is my favorite show-it is the best!
AmyB
I liked this episode. I wasn't real happy with the 2nd and 3rd of this season but the others have been good and I loved the one with his brother. This is the ONLY TV program I watch. I never watched anything and then within a week last winter 2 different people told me I would like this show. I watched it once and then ordered the 1st and 2nd seasons on DVD. And then pre-ordered Season 3 as soon as it was available. I LOVE Monk, and everyone else in the cast - and both Sharona and Natalie.
hugeMonkfan
I read someone else's post about the actress who played the bride in tonight's episode, and I want to know who she is, too. She looks REALLY familiar to me. Anyway, I know that her name will most likely appear on the cast list when the synopsis is posted on the web site. Anyone know when that will be?
Teresa1643
The bride was played by Ashley Williams.
MrMonkMan
Prissy,
Next week's episode, I'm sure, will be a mid-season finale. They usually run nine episodes in the summer, and then return with seven more episodes to complete the season, beginning in January.

Thank you! She seemed so familiar and I just couldn't place her.

I had the chance to be in San Francisco today and I went to the corner of Taylor and Broadway ("Mexico" episode). I did notice there are a couple of mailboxes on the OTHER corner but you would lose the TA building in the shot. As I watched "Wedding" tonight I noticed they used a similar shot of this corner then cutting to the Captain visiting Monk. Does this mean Monk lives in the vacinity?
Anyway, this was a great show. I'm glad everyone got a lot of screen time, especially Natalie. The writers gave her the first 15 minutes and it was well written and acted. It's nice to see the Captain solve another case ("Vegas" and "Old Man?"). I hope this is a trend to see more Disher and the Captain. I also liked the Montery County detective. My only complaint is that once Disher was injured wouldn't he require immediate medical attention? Seems like a long time for Monk and the Captain to drive from San Francisco County to Montery County.
kees_lady
Raven I hope you didn't spoil it for yourself.

I thought this was a really good episode, a little more of Natalie's background was revealed, Leland got Monk out of another "dark mood", Randy got to solve the murder "a nasty little 'black widow', Monk found himself in another fine mess of mud this time, Nat dressed up and looking mighty womanly ------ WOW!! EVERYONE had a really good part in this eppy and I really enjoyed it from start to finish.

The plot thickens for the next set of eppies to delve further into Nat's past, rich heiress, gambler recovering, widow, former bartender, capable of solving crimes on her own (well almost) --- can't wait for next week to see some of Monk's childhood come to light.
ClippoPuppet
Not to mention the birthday cake flambe! Even Monk had to admit that wasn't a good idea. I loved his line to Nat too about her cancelled wedding date - "anything I can do, that wouldn't inconvenience me?"
Raven
What a Monk-like idea, plastic wrap over the cake to prevent 'spittle'. Then it bursts into flame, and Randy's still munching away on the burned, plasticy cake.
Adrian says he doesn't like weddings, is it because there are just too many ways for his OCD to come out then?
Like picking up all the rose petals. I was so glad Natalie came to his rescue then and got him to sit back down.
I thought Randy was sort of heroic...struggling to run with the Captain all that way when he must have been in incredible pain.

I loved that quote! Classsic Monk.
I laughed so hard when Randy blew out the candles and the cake caught on fire!!
blumonkaholic87
I loved this episode! L-O-V-E-D it!

I too, loved it when the cake caught on fire. My stomach hurt so much from laughing!

I also like the part where Monk accidently stepped into the mud bath! Dude, that was awesome!

The only thing I didn't like about the episode was that I figured out who did it as soon as they showed the character.

But other than that I loved it!
crazychrismonker
Another good solid effort by all. Not quite as much of Monk as I would have preferred, but to build up the other characters is certainly appreciated. My favorite bit was his crazy reaction when he ended up with the bride's garter. Makes you wonder how long he washed his hands afterwards!! At least one thing he can be thankful for in his life is that his family seems to have accepted Trudy, even though Ambrose probably didn't attend the service unless it was a home one.

For once I got it when he did; I knew Pan Am's exact year of liquidation. And Stott trying to get Disher down to the ballroom was a riot; I was almost expecting him to drop him down a long flight of stairs.

I loved it when Stott and Randy fell over the luggage cart!
RobertC
Wasn't the stripper's costume different from a real cop uniform? Surely Monk would know but I liked it when he said "187" which means homicide.

When Dish was looking at the photos, Monk said something about "Trudy" - what was going on??

When Stott mentioned weddings to Monk I thought he would stop when he saw how hurt Monk was. Why did Stott then continue on with the photo album and all that?

Pebble Beach is 120 miles south of SF. I wonder if they really filmed it there.

Now we know Nat's full birth name was Natalie Jane Davenport. And she has nice teeth.

I thought Monk was going to do his "reveal" thing during his dance or up on the stage but he never did. It wasn't needed.

Why was Disher a Sgt. first and then a Lt.??
CrystalSmith
Loved the ep.
So, Randy attended Temple University? And is from Philedelphia? Surprised me. That's when I figured out who did it, when she mentioned Philidelphia. And I figured it was because he knew her or knew something about her.

I think Randy may have scraped the burned plastic off the cake before he munched on it. It would still taste awful, but still.

I loved when Natalie said "Seperate rooms." and Randy said "I should thinks so."
And "What time is it." That was v.v. funny.Randy on painkillers was great. And when Captain Stottlemeyer asked if he'd be okay, Randy said. "Yeah. Painkillers."

Finally, a good Randy ep.
CrystalSmith
BTW, Randy and Natalie as a couple. What do you think. I think they look like they could be - Except they seem to have no romantic interest in one another in any way. But they look cute together.
Marjorie
I loved the show, but two things surprised me. One was in a good way; the other was in a bad way. The first "surprise" was when Natalie preferred going to the wedding with a B&E suspect rather than Randy. What exactly is wrong with Randy as a non-romantic date? Secondly, isn't this like the first episode in which Monk didn't do a summation? In a way, I liked that Monk didn't single-handedly solve the case. Stottlemeyer and Disher really contributed this time. However, Monk's summations are so well done that I missed it in the show.
monkusa
Read your comments and enjoy them. I've been a fan of Monk since 1st airing. Didn't know how to get on here. So I clicked on a name. Is this how to get on??

Wanted to say I loved the way Adrian looked when Natalie had her heel at the bride's throat. This was the same look he gave her in one of Natalie's 1st epi when they were coming off an escalator.
She said "Life goes on, doesn't it?" You could read his face. "That's my girl" I just loved that look. Said sooo much.

I lost a dear pet right before the show and didn't think I would enjoy the humor but this show just breaks me up. Thank you USA and MONK.
Raven
That was a great look Monk gave Natalie, wasn't it? He admires her spunkiness, I think, and her down to earth attitude.
So do I!
MonsterMonkMaven
I'm sorry about you losing a pet. I know how that goes, and it's never easy...

Did anyone mention the counterpart to Stott? He even looked a bit alike. I wish I could have seen more of them acting together.

A pretty nice episode. The body floating to the top of the mud pit was gruesome. Chilling touch.

They DO like to promote Volvos on MONK, don't they???

Teresa1643,
"It's unclear exactly why Monk and the police fellows are invited"? This confirms something I have long-suspected -- some critics are paid to write reviews of shows they have not actually watched!

=================================================

monkusa,
I think the time you're thinking of (when Monk gave Natalie that look) was in "Mr. Monk & The Red Herring," when they were at the science museum and she told the white corpuscle that she wanted to know less about him.

But he did give her a 'look' in this episode too. An admiring look.

Yeah, I was saying way to go Natalie! I liked the look Monk gave her when done that.
Renee27
So sorry to hear about your pet! That's tough. But I'm glad Monk helped you -- I'm sure he'd be proud to know it!
bringirl2001
i loved the whole show- and i too loved the look monk gave natalie when she handled that wacko-- and i loved that monk grabbed julie and pulled her to safety- to let natlaie handle that woman- i know nat would appreciate this--(monk is thinking of others now and it is some Growth for him) the eppy showcased all of them- i loved the capt when monk- i think he did not realize that monk WOULD get upset when he first started talking about weddings and all- but he KNEW if he brought up trudy-- THAt would cheer monk right up and it did=== classic monk-- can't wait for next week- will be sad to see him go for NOW-- but i have LOVED every show-so far- season 4 has been da bomb!!!
QDonQ
When he stepped in the Mud I said "Oh my God!"

I am such a Monk.
Jenn
I thought this episode was a great change of pace after last week's rather dramatic episode. Everyone had a good outing here and like others I just loved the scenes of Stottlemeyer and Randy trying to get to the ballroom.

And, of course, I as the personally crowned queen of the Monk Bus Disco, I have to say that I was thrilled to see Monk dancing. I also really liked the dialogue during that scene. Adrian was very good there. "Why should I be afraid? I'm not the one you married." Brilliant!

I also agree that I loved the part where Natalie stopped our black widow and told her that her family had enough problems. I thought the look that Monk gave her was one of pride and that was nice to see, too. I think there is a real partnership there.

Now I think I'll dance around my living room.

Everyone expressed just about everything I liked about this episode, except one thing: "I love weddings. Did you know I met Karen at a wedding. And I still love weddings."

Also, did you notice that Natalie's father called her "Nat"? I wonder if that's why she was so snarky to Marty Eels when he called her "Nat."

Excellent! The show just keeps on getting better!

Randy proves his worth (attention and retention to and of detail) and the fact that he does deserve respect. Natalie exemplifies her wholesomeness by divulging her refusal to participate harmoniously with an enormously rich pretentious immediate family. Stotlemeyer shows yet again his undying loyalty to Monk, and Monk of course demonstrates yet once again his brilliant observance of details, his vast knowledge, his fearless direct dialog to the suspect and unbecoming to most; his physical inability to subdue the perpetrator.
MrMonkMan
Hi all,
I got quite a giggle out of Randy asking "What time is it?" Also Stottlemeyer's "Did you know I met Karen at a wedding? . . . I love weddings, anyway."

And, Adrian's reaction to the garter falling on him was one of the funniest things ever!

They weren't invited. More accurately, Monk was invited to attend as Natalie's date when her real date cancelled but Monk declined. That's when Randy volunteered to escort her and, having no one else to act as a buffer between her and her family, Natalie accepted. So Randy was there because he was her date. Monk and Stotlemeyer showed up after Randy was involved in the hit and run accident. As any good friends would, they went to see about their friend.
Cyn
I laughed till I cried when the cake burst into flames. What a way to start an episode! As someone who has worked with small children for years, and staged quite a few birthday parties, I can say that a more flame resistant "spittle guard" would definitely win my vote of approval.

It was great to see the gang functioning as more of a team, with Monk's abilities pointing the way and making significant contribution, but not being the all-in-all. Good solid police work from Stottelmeyer and Randy cinched the arrest, and Natalie's quick thinking brought her down. Good teamwork, I'd say.

Who'd a thunk that Natalie was a toothpaste heiress!

Loved the race to the ballroom and Stott dumping Randy off the luggage cart right at the feet of their suspect!

Loved Monk's verbal exchange with the Black Widow while they were dancing. Low key, but very suspenseful. And, of course, I loved all of Monk's "Monk moments"... the mud bath, the stripper cop fiasco, separating the kid's food at the dinner", and that long, rambling stall speech.

Nice episode. I've enjoyed all of this season immensely!

Yes, the look may have been in Red Herring. RH will air again during the marathon. I will watch it. But I remember it at the top of the escalator when she said something to Monk, then turned to walk away. Maybe I missed one of those "looks".

Cancerg01: You are right. Stott and Monk went to the wedding after Randy was hurt. Thanks for noticing that.

Thanks for comments on my pet. He is still in my refrig all wrapped up in foil. Wouldn't Monk just faint away ? I don't know if I want to cremate or bury.
Tami
I forgot one! One great "Monk moment" was when they turned the tables on a "Monk moment" and had Randy make his wish before he blew out the candles! Even Adrian got a little impatient (that hand to the face thing he does and that look!) before Stottlemeyer ordered him to blow out the candles!
Mikayla
Great episode. I can't believe the 1st half of seson 4 is almost over. Nice job. You do about 6 episodes and take a long break. Then you come back and do another 6 or so episodes and take another break.

monkusa, you should bury you pet friend. I'm sorrey for your lost.
stotfan
Tami, didn't you think Leland made a sexy "wedding photographer"?

One thing I did wonder about, though, was when Natalie asked her parents if they had the bride "checked out" and her dad said yes, they had. I would think if they had her checked out, they would have found out that she was a Black Widow, unless she made it so her fake identity was the one that could be traced.....anyway, that was just a random thought I had.
Tami
Quote:

What do you think, stotfan?
MrMonkMan
monkusa,
Yes, in "Mr. Monk & The Red Herring," Monk and Natalie had just gotten off the escalator when suddenly a guy in costume claiming he was a white corpuscle appeared and started babbling to them about what white corpuscles do. He asked, "Would you like to know more about me?" Nat said, "No, I'd like to know less about you." and walked away. Monk appeared to be impressed and gave Natalie a look which seemed to say "Hey, this girl is all right."

================================================

Cancerg01,
I know all that about Monk, Stottlemeyer and Randy being at the wedding. I saw the show. Apparently, a certain critic -- from The Connecticut News, in Teresa's original post, wasn't really watching or listening too well.
