Someone on myspace ask this question and I was thinking the same thing.
I think I got lost. If Dr. Burkhoff, Diana, and the enhanced soldiers all had to have multiple injections to develop abilities then how is the general public going to be able to develop them with just one shot? I got the part that Isabelle's promicin is more pure, but was that the only reason given?

I just rewatchd the episode when USA showed it for the west coast folks.
Everyone gets 3 shots of it. At teh end of the episode the Bum is holding up 3 syringes taped/rubber banded together when he turns to he audience

It might simply be a question of dosage. Take lots of little doses and it takes a while for you to get an ability, but you're more likely to survive (or you can stop if you get adverse reactions - like Diana). Take a humungous dose and you'll get the ability straight away - if you're one of the half who survive!

Also keep in mind that Issy's promicin is pure. What the doctor used was a diluted, manufactured form of it. Maybe that had something to do with them only needing three shots.

Well from wut i gathered it seems that from the end of the episode u get 1 shot. of this Pure promisin and it looks to be rather a hefty dosage plus the fact that it's a 50/50 chance live or die after the shot idk thats wut i got outta it at the end he holds them but as he hands them out to people it's only 1 pure dosage

It's also possible that Kevin improved the shot. I think it's not just composed of promicin.

Yes, I saw that too. So three shots of promicin (which likely has been diluted or adjusted per Kevin's instructions), and the abilities begin to develop? It seemed like Kevin did more, but maybe he's perfected the process so that 3 doses is effective.

it's very logical to ask what you ask... I did wonder too when I saw "Fifty fifty"... but I think we are forgetting the most important idea... or getting away from the central point... actually the title of the episode 50/50. I think this could get a central issue in the serie... if you are "valid" for the future you survive... if you are not you die... And perhaps the "one shot" thing whit the more pure promicin is not just a quick way... but a perfect test.
Saludos from Spain.
I see you all here after I download the next episode next year.
