I watched Psych tonight for the first time. I found it to be a good show and quite funny. The only thing that bothers me is the location. It surprised me that they were trying to pass off the area as Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara is very "spanish style". I live in Santa Barbara and know that there is not one area which is similar to the show. Other than that, I enjoyed it. Thank you USA

Like many shows on TV today, Psych is filmed in and around Vancouver, BC, Canada. The town that is the backdrop of Santa Barbara is called White Rock, a seaside community that is located about 30 minutes outside of Vancouver.

Thats cause it was filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Not everyone knows what Santa Barbara looks like, so I guess they didn't think it was too big a deal.

Well, actually, only the pilot episode was filmed there. The other episodes have been filmed at a studio instead of a real city area.

Isn't that studio located in Vancouver? Cause I heard some of the cast moved there.

I went to school in Santa Barbara (University of California at Santa Barbara), so was hoping to see some scenes around Santa Barbara when I heard of the show and first watched it. I even asked my brother (who lives in Santa Barbara) if he had heard of a series being filmed there. I keep searching the backgrounds to see if I recognized the restaurants, etc. After the first show, I checked this site and discovered that this was filmed in Canada.
I guess the strange thing is that they claim it is Santa Barbara, but you'll see everyone wearing long sleeve shirts and looking rather cold... I also notice a lot of trees in the background that are obviously not Southern California.
I guess I'm wondering why they just didn't set the fictitious location as Seattle Washington or someplace in Oregon, as that would match up with the backgrounds, ocean, and weather a lot better?
Also, as another piece of trivia, the shot they had of the outside of the hospital where the chief delivered her baby was Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, California. I know, because our son was born there last July! I'm guessing this was just stock footage of the outside of a hospital that they grabbed, as I didn't remember any reference to where they were.
On that topic, I was actually really disappointed in how they handled the delivery of the chief's baby. I was expecting it to be a major focus of at least one episode, maybe two. You mean they had the police chief pregnant during several episodes, then just treated it as a short side story in one episode? They could have used the event a lot better than that!
