I'll admit it - I cheated - I watched it on Monday on Comcast on-demand, but I still made a point to watch the show tonight. It's just so refreshing to see such a well written show like this. A lot of shows are so predictable nowadays.... this one definately keeps me wanting to watch for the next scene, the next line, the next revelation.

I think the show is just pure genius.

This show has the potential to turn into one of my all-time favorites! I loved the quirky humor and characters. I think Psych will make it big!

I LOVED it! I was in the office watching (and working) and cracking up, and my husband was in the bedroom watching and cracking up! I'm already a "4400" and "Dead Zone" fan, but now I'm adding "Psych" to my must-see list. Well done, USA. Well done.

Loved it! THought it was hilarious it got a little confusing at some points but I think its a great show!

Incredibly Funny! - icing on the cake was the "blooper" during credits. I truly laughed out loud for awhile after the Michael Jackson "Man in the Mirror" bit...
USA definitely has a great slogan with the "character" thing. This show fits that perfectly!
And they have some of the best show promo ads with character crossovers and such ever.

Overall, I think the pilot doesn't live up to USA detective-show standards.

A few thoughts I have concerning the show are:

Some of the characters are unimpressive. I think the lead character, Shawn, Shawn's father, Henry, and the interim police chief, Karen Vick worked well. They all had a unique appeal to them (in my view.) Though I think Shawn's philandering was very tacky. It's not a good characteristic for a TV lead character that the show wants you to fall in love with.

I believe the worst character in the show is Carlton (apparently the lead detective. This man got on my nerves the entire show. He was obnoxiously rude, and it seemed the writers were leaving it up to him to make every illogical assumption and comment to fit the story line.

I also think his female counterpart did not fit well for the role they are setting her up to play. I think they're looking for some romantic tension between Shawn and this woman, Juliet, but I don't think their on-screen personalities and appearances warrant this relationship.

Anyway, I wasn't too impressed with this pilot. Hopefully the producers make some changes to the cast and writers; then, maybe, this show will appeal to me more. Again, this is all about my liking.

Yep me too. I watch Dead Zone and 4400 but this show actualy brought me to the site. Great job!

I thought it was a pleasant surprise. Though Carlton could stand to channel Rowan Atkinson just a little less, I think.

Shawn's philandering makes a lot of sense for the character, in my opinion. He's a very impulsive guy with uncanny powers of persuasion; it's not unreasonable that he'd be using those powers to get women into bed. It's tacky. He's tacky. It's a flaw. I like flaws. Wouldn't want to live with him, but I'll happily watch him on television.

Besides, the Shawn-Gus chemistry is the strongest in the show, which some people could find confusing without that over-the-top heterosexual element in Shawn. (How long before Shawn/Gus slashfic hits the net, do you think?)

I'm probably hoping in vain here, but I hope the writers don't go down the romantic-chemistry path with Juliet. It'd be so refreshing. Seriously, writers, I beg you. Don't do it. It's so predictable. It'll fall flat. Don't go there. You've given us this awesome pregnant police chief; I know you can manage a blonde detective who doesn't fall for the leading man.

I have to admit, while I can't say I actually identify with him, Shawn does reminds me of myself. I have ADHD, and my attentional blindness filters aren't quite set like other people's. That makes me oddly good at noticing the seemingly unnoticeable, but also leads me to say things along the lines of, "Oooh!! Pineapple!" at seemingly random intervals. (Not to mention, "Why does that guy have a rubber snake?!") My husband and I watched it together, and he kept looking over at me and grinning as he recognized this or that familiar little thing. "See?" I told him. "It's not a disorder. It's a superpower!"

Really good pilot. I recorded the show and I'm going to watch it again tomorrow. I like Shawn's zany attitude and enthusiasm, and that he also isn't doing his bit just for the paycheck. He has a purpose and wants to solve crimes, not just make a quick buck and call it a day. I don't think his character is too crazy for the show. I think he's just crazy enough.

I Loved It
The cast was all good but , unfortuately, I didn't realize the premiere episode was for 90 minutes so missed some of it and wondered if USA was going to repeat it ? I never saw the ending and would rather watch it then get any recap since although recaps are great I enjoy seeing the expressions on the faces of the characters ..

To my surprise I actually enjoyed it. I had to go brush my teeth on the first commercial so I had to start recording it so I wouldn't miss anything. Perhaps like "Monk" this show will turn out to be a great comedy detective series. I can't wait for the 2nd episode. Go "Psych"!

I absolutely loved it! Now I get two great shows to watch every Friday!!!

I really liked it! I'm a huge Dulé Hill fan--he's what brought me to the show. Anyway, at times I thought the acting was a bit over the top but overall I like it alot. The clip at the end was hysterical! And did anyone else notice that the pregnant detective played the "young" Mrs Landingham on West Wing with Dulé?
NuBnMac
This is a great show. USA knock'd it out of the park with this one. Dulé Hill & James Roday are hilarious, the script is impecable and the acting is so on point I forget I'm watching TV. This show is def. on my must see TV list, right behind Entourage & Run's House.

I LOVED this episode. The previews during the summer were getting me hooked every time I saw them and I am so glad that I decided to check it out. It is so funny and it kept me laughing the entire time. I really love the character of Shawn Spencer--I think he is quirky and he really wants to help the police, while keeping them on their toes at the same time!

I will absolutely be tuning in week to week to see what happens next. I think USA has a great show on their hands and I really hope they decide to stick by it!

i thought it was great! i LOVE Shawn!! he is soo funny and HOTTTTT! ee! i'll def be watching!

Overall, I liked the show. The way that Shawn solves crimes is quite entertaining, although kind of Monk-ish if I may say so. I have some beefs with the show though. The whole psychic deal is a little exhausting, as I often found myself frustrated that he couldn't just explain that he was just a sharp thinker/observer. Also, I hate that lead detective! Lastly, Shawn's character, although often pretty damn funny, is a little bit too in-your-face, but maybe that's just because I'm used to Monk. But besides those points which irked me and that I'll probably get over, the show was cool and I think I'll start watching.

I love this show! Can't wait for the next episode! 'nuff said.

I have been a Monk fan for a while (watched every single season and episode), and a The 4400 fan aswell (Also watched every season and episode), and I looked to the pilot of Psych with great interest. Perhaps either my expectations were too high, or whatnot, but I would say it came off to a DECENT start. The ongoing episodes will probably solidify my opinion. There was not a lot of noticeable chemistry between some characters, such as the rude detective's assistant and Shawn (sorry, haven't caught the names yet), and I would agree that the rude detective in question was rather obnoxious and stereotypical throughout the pilot, in my humble opinion.

The way they portray Shawn's observational skill is very well done and believable, and his character is likeable. Perhaps his friend Gus doubts him a bit too much and a bit too often, that kind of got on my nerves for a while, but perhaps its just in contrast to Natalie, from Monk, who is much more supportive. Should be interesting to see where this series goes, see you out there!

I loved it! I got on the web so I could thank the producers. It was really good. The characters were great and I agree that Juliet is not too cute but good! What a refreshing change! The lead detective was so obnoxious too but he is just going to be somebody that u love to hate like the cigarette man on X-files. Hilarious! And (I am black) and I don't normally like to see black people on TV rolling their eyes and constantly using eye language but the sidekick used the PERFECT eye language to get his point across..Hilarious. And it all is so real because the black guy is driving that cheap little car which is sooo true for 20something, because they have like NO money and can only afford cheap cars.
To top it all off: Corben Bernstien is the dad! (ok I'm over 40)...I just love him from the days of LA Law and other things that he has been in. So it was great to see him even though his character is going to have to lighten up a little bit.
Good job writes of Psych and USA for seeing the potential. SUPERSHOW!!!!!!!!!
Udo
I think this show has some Sherlock Holmes in it. The detective doesn't want to work with him because he's not a "real detective", and his sidekick, while a smart person, doesn't have the detective spirit, and therefore is a foil.
But naturally, that ends with the "I'm a psychic" twist. I loved the show.
