Full Version: True Believer? Matthew as Murder?

Here's a speculational theory I haven't seen explored, so will toss it out...

When Matthew questioned Lily as to her motivations, and she basically told him free daycare and housing, he said he wasn't a true believer either, but yet we KNOW Matthew has a grand master plan with Isabelle. If he's just a slick PR Marketing glitz guy out for fame and money, what then is the plan? Or was Matthew meaning he's not into the Cultic Religional end of it rather the pure Science? He hasn't enjoyed defending the Nova Group, and he's no public-eye smooth Jordan, rather a behind-the-curtain Administrator-At-Large. But yet, he does believe in something, what, we aren't yet sure. I think he just meant he doesn't believe in the Key System.

But almost right after Lily said that...she was transformed into an old lady, and later died. Did Matthew "move her out of the process" as she would be a bad influence on Isabelle? Why did Isabelle need to grow up so fast? (Well, outside of the Laura Allen incident and the obvious acting problems in dealing with babies as actors). Still some motivational need on Matthew's part as for the acceleration, assuming he caused it.

What was Lily's power? Maybe she had NO power herself, rather her power was in her pregnancy, so once the kiddo's born, if Matthew can accelerate the process, taking over the nuture role and getting Isabelle into full awareness, Lily's seriously expendable.

Hence Matthew "killed" Lily, which may or may not be a good thing. Matthew seems of the 'ends justifies the means' ethical lapse sort, but then if he's Futureman or at least in contact with such, making the puzzle pieces all fit together to keep the human race alive in the future, can be somewhat justified. Big scary seemingly contradictory ethical questions, kill so others live. Choose death, yet choosing life. Peace by War.

Here's what I'm thinking:

Matthew's Plan is:

* Speed up Issy's *physical* growth

* Get Lily out of the way so that Matthew can take over and mold Issy in his own *psycholgical* image.

Note the way Maia has a Mom (Diana). Note the way its Diana's job to *mold* Maia's conscience, and teach her right from wrong. Note the way Issy doesn't have a conscience, which is why she asks Shawn questions about good and evil (right vs wrong). Note the way Diana's sister (the one who works at the tattoo place) was a wild child. She was someone Diana didn't want Maia to become (which is why Maia asked Diana why she never told her she had a sister before).

The point is kids are inflenced by the type of company they keep, and Matthew is not a very good influence on Issy. He buys her a dress. Suggests she use it to seduce Shawn and change the color of her eyes to match the dress. In other words, he's pretty much acting like her PIMP.

Since they say prostitution is the oldest profession, (cave women trade sex for the meat the cavemen kill) perhaps this means Matt (as Issy's Pimp) is keyed into the KEY System afterall?

It might help if you think of Matt as being the SNAKE (the tempter) in the Garden of Eden. Lily's like EVE -- who eats from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil -- and for this she is punished -- when her immortality is taken away from her and she dies.

Lily's power was the same as the power of any other creator who creates a child. It was her ability to form and mold that child into becoming a responsible adult.

Matthew's job is to try to keep Issy in a *selfish* childlike state, one where she uses and abuses other people for her own advantage.

In other words, Matt's plan is getting Lily out of the way to take over her role, and mold Issy into an evil little manipulative witch -- someone who has no morals or conscience -- someone who will use other people as a way to get whatever it is that they want.

Sociopath or Psychopath are the psychological terms one uses for people who haven't developed a conscience or a proper sense of morality. This is Matthew's purpose.

This is his Plan:

The process of forming Issy into a very nasty little NARCISSISTIC monster.

Yes! I agree! Matt is very Machievellian!

Yep! These are some Very Big and Very Scary Ethical questions indeed!

Did you see the UNLOCKING the SECRETS special? Remember what Maia said to Diana in the car (after her teacher asked Maia not to come back beause of the way the flower lady was blown up in the van with a bomb)?

Maia tells Diana *someone important* was coming soon? At the time I thought she meant baby Issy. But now I'm hoping Maia meant someone else was coming who would make things better -- because I don't like the direction Ms. 666 -- or Isabelle from hell -- is headed in at all. If Matt continues to be her CO PILOT, or her navigator, then I think the journey is pretty much already over with and we're all doomed.

At least that's the way I see it.

Great message Chris! Thanks for tickeling my dendrites! I feel as if the neurons in my brain (aka synapses) (nerve endings) (brain chemicals) are wide awake now (as if I've also eaten from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil myself)!

Great question and analysis, Chris. Very insightful reply, Ula.
