I have 4 dogs!! Two are Silky Terriers, one is a Maltese and the last one is a Westhighland Terrier. So tell me what kinda dog or dogs you have...???
Evilwonderwoman
Here's a pic of 2 of my dogs: Max is the one of the Silky Terriers and Merlin is The White Westhighland Terrier
TM34567
I have always wanted a dog, but never had one. I really didn't have the opportunity to have one. My goal when I retire is to get a dog.
Evilwonderwoman
Yeah dogs are great companions and great protection too! It's been scientifically proven that having a pet will reduce your stress level...so they are good for your health too.
What kinda dog are you planning on getting??
TM34567
I would like, let's see... a black lab, a sheltie, a golden, a poodle, a pyrenese, or a mutt with a patch over his eye. I just can't decide! LOL, I should probably just run a kennel!
Evilwonderwoman
Well If I was rich and had the room I probably would have a LOT more dogs myself, bad enough I already have 4!!....oh and by the way mutts are great too, had plenty of those in my life as well...once had a coyote/German Shepard Mix, we called him "Radar" because his ears were so big...hehe .

I just lost my best friend, an English Springer Spaniel. She was 14 years old. It's been a couple of weeks, and I am still heart broken.. My husband has been determined to find me another Eng. Springer and he did. I am leaving in the morning to go to South Tx. to pick from 3 females. I can't wait.. I have seen pics and they are all so pretty. It will never replace my Belle, but I love the breed and I am looking forward to having a new baby puppy to raise.

I have a Shiztu-poo named Sugar. She turn 3 last month.Pam-Doggirl3
Evilwonderwoman
I'm sorry to hear you lost a pet, I've lost a few myself.Things will get better, the love a dog brings NEVER goes away.
Congrats on getting a new "baby". Be sure to put up pics as soon as you can,I'd love to see the new "baby".
Evilwonderwoman
Here pics of 2 more of my dogs.... this is Muffie,(technically my dad's dog)...she's a Silky terrier.

This one is poor Chacho,he's already been through 2 previous owners and sadly noone here wants him either EXCEPT for me....I love him, even though he's kinda goofy looking...hehe.....he's the sweetest dog in the world! Sorry I don't really know what he is.....most likely a mix.
TM34567
Oh, that Chacho is a cutie! I got my cat Snafu because he was the runt of the litter, and I thought "nobody else will take this poor little kitty cat". He was all white, with a big brown spot on one side - like a cow!

and k-mom, I'm sorry to hear about your Belle, it is very sad to lose a pet. How did things go when you met the three dogs?
singinbrowneyes
As a pet trainer and certified SUCKER I have more than I need. I have Weezie Who is a red heeler/shar pei mix and is 7 years old.

Then I have Rizzo. No clue what she is. A few speculations, but at this point it doesn't matter. She is a rescue case and is about 5 or 6.

My roommate has a dobie, approx 3 or 4 yrs, named Eve. In the following pic, you see my two, Eve, and Lita. Lita is the border collie mix to the far left. She is about 8 months old and is my foster. She is on petfinder.com but hasn't gotten placed, yet. And yes, this is where they all sleep....with me!

And this is my most recent foster dog, Booger. Blue heeler and about 4 or 5 months old. Smart as a whip and may be going to live with my fellow dog trainer at PETsMART.
I need to get some new pics of him, cause he is ALWAYS smiling now.

I didn't feel so bad, tho, when some nut came in the store last night. He has 22 (yes TWENTY TWO) dachshunds. One in every color and hair type!!! He's only missing a white one. Sheesh.
Evilwonderwoman
Wow, beautiful dogs! And god bless you for taking in "rescues". I've rescued plenty of "pound puppies" myself.Thank you for sharing these great pics of your dogs!
If you ever decide to post anymore, please do share them with us....afterall we're all crazy about our "children"...hehe.

P.S. Usually all my dogs sleep with me too, my bed's a lot smaller, but then again so are my dogs.
Jacee
Your dogs are all awesome!!! Aren't they so special and why do you think we love them so???? My dog, Vinny, a bulldog (wish I could post photo...he would make you smile, with only a face a mother could love) is my life.... He weighs 72 lbs and snores, burps and farts but...he means everything to me.... Jacee
Evilwonderwoman
Vinny sounds just adorable. How old is he?
TM34567
oh m'gosh, singinbrowneyes, you have some real dawg kind of dogs! Looks like you really have your hands full! and hmmmm, a 72 lb bulldog that burps & farts - jacee, that is too funny.
Even though I don't have a dog, a lot of people in my neighborhood do. Next door there's a couple of bulldogs and a black lab mix, and a visiting Westie that pops in every now & then. In just a few blocks are people with Huskies, Greyhounds, Pekes, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Beagles, spaniels, labs, and mutts of all kinds. One woman & her roommate have 4 mixed blend dogs - it's funny when she walks them, they get all tangled up.

New to this board. I currently have a Ch. English Cocker Spaniel named "Dan" whose breeder sent over for me to take through OB to get his CD but when he turned 4 it was discovered his sire had PRA so after testing all her dogs and finding Dan had it too, she told me "just get him neutered and he's all yours" so I did just that and now he's registered to me.

My second dog is a Shetland Sheepdog named "Jetz" 'cause he ALWAYS has his 'jets on'. He's a rescue too, bought at 6 wks of age from a backyard breeder, the new owners'son started having violent allergic reactions to him. I work in a pet store and this guy just popped in and asked if we bought dogs, (we don't and never will) so I took him off his hands when he was 8 wks old, now he's 9 months old and if I don't get him fixed this month Dan is going to kill him, if I don't first.

My first dog was a spitz mix named "ChiChi", then came the pugs. "Printz" was first followed by "Kim Su" who electocuted himself by hiding behind a couch and chewing on a cord, he was my baby and I was just a teen, I cried for days.

When I got married my husband and I bought a then unknown breed called The American Eskimo. "Snowy" was a great little apartment dog, never had a day of training but never left the backyard, never barked when someone passed our apt. door unless they stopped at the door. My son and Snowy became the best of friends and I would LOL watching the 2 of them playing in snow, my son, age 3 would fall down and Snowy would plow the snow with her nose until she found him and would dig him out.

My sister is married to a deaf mute and they have owned pugs all their lives. Pugs seem to become natural hearing dogs for the deaf because every one they have ever owned taught itself to alert whenever the door bell rang, the phone rang, the alarm clocked clicked before going off and and would wake my brother-in-law up before the bed would start shaking, and a whole lot of other things hearing dogs had to be taught, but never the pugs.

I left the House of Orange and joined the rebels by getting a Keeshond sight unseen (another rescue) out of Maryland. He went on to become my first Ch. Too many more followed and lived with me to list but in the '80's I was lucky enough to own a Keeshond who made Ch. before he was a year of age by beating out the Champions at dog shows. Atom became 1 of the top 10 Keeshonden in the country two years running, won a HOF issued by the Keeshond Club of America for winning over 2000 other Kees, was bred to the top winning female in Canada and his daughter was the last Kees I owned. When Atom died of cancer I was too dishearted to continue breeding.

Then came the Shiba Inu's, 2 of them. One stole my daughters heart and now lives with her but I get to babysit with Cayenne about 1 week end a month.

I have had a long and happy life with dogs but the Spitz breeds will always be my favorites.

I'm not trying to brag, just wanted to share with all of you my love of dogs and those I have had. I am an avid watcher of the Eukanuba and Westminster Shows and just for fun I sometimes go the our local show.

Jetz is in training to become an agility dog. Dan just plays couch potato with me whenever he can and finds his way around the house by using his other senses and by letting his ears brush along furniture, etc. so I keep the hair long on his ears but the rest of him is clipped short.

I am new to all of this so please forgive my ignorance. I'm going to the WKC Dog Show as a 50th birthday present to myself. I purchased reserved seats for both nights thru Ticketmaster. Will this allow me in during the day to see the individual breed judging? If not, what do I need to purchase? Thanks!

kees_lady, that is amazing. I like watching Miracle Pets - have you ever seen that show? It's about amazing things that pets do, whether it's attacking an intruder to sniffing out a cancer untrained.
ickbug, I'm sorry, but I don't know the answer to your question. Hopefully someone else will.
Farsix
I have a Pomeranian.

And sorry I don't know the answer to the dog show question either, ickbug.
kees_lady
Yes I have seen that show, it's fantastic the way a dog can pick up on things without any training while others like to be, well, ya know -- just dogs.

To answer the question about tickets to the dog show - the way a dog show works is that when you purchase a ticket to see the show you can watch all the breeds being judged on that day including the "best of breed" which follows each breed after the initial judging.

The individual breed winners then compete in the various groups they belong to; the Group 1 winners then compete for Best in Show so with any luck once you get to the show and get in you can stay until the last judging for that day is over.

With any luck you should be able to see it all. Good Luck and bring a sit-apon as your butt will be tired by the end of the day.

I have never been to WKC, how I envy you. I watch on TV but it just isn't the same 'cause you never get to see the breed judging which can be really great as the judge has to use all his knowledge of the individual breeds to pick the "1" that is the ABSOLUTE closest to the breed standard as set forth by the various breed clubs and accepted by the AKC.
soccermanic
well, i have two dogs rite now. but i had three, one was a rottweiler but we had to put her to sleep 5 years ago and my other two are a pit bull (which not all pit bulls are bad dogs and my dog luvs ppl and always wants to be petted, she's 6 years old. My other dog is a lab/boxer mostly and then a little of coyote and sum other breeds, he's 5 months and very active but puppies are so funny they do crazy things
kees_lady
Personally I don't care for 'pits' because they are just not my kind of dog but I run into lot's of pits where I work and most of them have wonderful temperaments. If owners would just realize what their dog was genetically bred to do (pits were bred to pull wagons, etc.) and work with them from puppyhood on pits wouldn't have such a bad rap. However, too many people from the wrong side of the tracks have picked up on dog fighting and pits and pit mixes are used in that sport. It's a GD shame too 'cause once they have been trained to fight there is no way to retrain them and most are euthanized. Remember a few years back Rotties had the same reputation, Chow Chow's before them, every decade has had its' baddies.

Congratulations on your birthday and have a wonderful time at WKC show!
soccermanic
yea i agree ppl r so cruel
singinbrowneyes
I'm sorry, kees, but I have to disagree. Anything a dog has been trained in can be trained out. It's just a matter of having the time and patience to work with it. I will admit, not ALL dogs can be cured. Just like people, they can have chemical imbalances. But since they can't actually communicate what is wrong with them to us, we don't always know how to help. However, being around them long enough you tend to be able to pick up on these things. I have worked with several dogs who are "dog aggressive" with great results. You just have to rework their thought process.
kees_lady
Sorry to disagree with you. I was talking about pits being trained for fighting other pits, it's a very popular sport but totally cruel. I know you can train aggression toward other dogs, people, animals, etc. out of a dog. I've even done it with my first Keeshond and they are not normally agressive toward anything.

Have you ever read the book, "Click to Calm" (can't remember the author. someone Pryor, I think) on how to use a clicker to retrain aggression out of your dog? It's a great book. Clicker training is the new "in thing" these days.

I have been a breeder since 1979 and work in a pet store where the dog trainer is also the trainer for WAGS dogs. I have probably too much experience with dogs not to know what love and time and patience can do to untrain bad behaviors but the pit breeds which from puppyhood on are encouraged to fight can only be broken of the habit with a method called the Koeller Method of Dog Training and that is not a guarantee that the pit won't attack again if it feels threatened by another dog.

There is a "golden rule" all dog owners should learn - A DOG SHOULD NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE BE ALLOWED TO BITE anyone, any living thing. Unfortunately, people put human emotions into their dogs behaviors and think that protecting a place, a food dish, favorite toy is normal or natural because people think that way, dogs only react until they are taught how not to react.

I've had English Springer Spaniels for most of my life....
I grew-up with a pair of littermate brothers 1981-1995. Kyle was liver & white, Kodi was black & white.

Then my first dog as an adult was another Springer 1995-1997. Elton was brown & white, I lost him to seizure disorder.

After many years of being dogless, I'm hoping to finally add a puppy to my family of felines this Winter

What kind of dog are you looking for? If you don't get a rescue dog, please buy from a reputable breeder, one who shows, breeds and sells with contracts and guarantees.

Can you tell I haven't checked this board in a while*lol* Well, due to some family medical issues last year I decided
to postpone getting my puppy until Fall 2007 sad.gif I've been researching lines & breeders for the past 3 years.

The first breed I fell in-love with when I was 10 years old was the Borzoi. Since I grew-up with English Springer Spaniels, I've always wished there was a breed of dog that resembled a Borzoi; was about the size of a Springer;
with a personality in-between the typical sighthound and the velcro-dog of a Springer. This ideal dog also needed a managable prey-drive to live safely with indoor cats. Over 20 years later I discovered the dog of my dreams, the
Silken Windhound wub.gif

The breed was created in the mid-1980s by Francie Stull of Austin, Texas. Francie had already bred over 200 AKC champion Borzoi. The official breed standard & breed club were created in 1999, and the stud book was closed in 2000. The breed will be eligible to apply for AKC's FSS in 3 years. In the meantime, they are shown in conformation shows along side other rare breeds at Rarities, IABCA, and National Canine Association venues. Silken Windhounds are also active in straight racing through various LGRA clubs. There are currently owners & breeders in over 20 U.S. states, plus: Canada, Finland, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany, England, South Africa, Slovenia, Japan, The Bahamas,
and the United Arab Emirates.

Those are beautiful. I've never heard of them before but I've been away from breeding and showing for so long I'm sure there are plenty of breeds I haven't seen yet. They remind me of a long-haired Whippet - do they come in any color other than white?

You probably have heard of them before they changed the name. Borzoi used to called Russian Wolfhound. My neighbor had one when I was a kid. It used to scare the bejeesus out of us. ohmy.gif

BTW, my baby is a spoiled, comical, drag queen of a Miniature Pinscher. I love him to pieces!

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's unbelievably hard to lose a family member like that. I had a wonderful dog (Malamute/arctic wolf) who I lost after nearly 12 years and I loved her dearly. I have a new dog now....a GSD...he's great, but not HER. It's funny, I was always scared of Shepherds before, but my husband really wanted one and now he's just a big ole' baby to me--not scary at all. Well, he's probably scary to strange men who come to my door to deliver stuff or sell things. He's VERY protective of his home and his people, especially me (the only woman in the house!). No, nothing will ever replace the one you had before, but it's nice to build new memories, nonetheless.
akitagrl
I have two dogs: a female akita and a male miniature poodle. Icon, the akita, is so sweet. She loves giving kisses and is a leaner. She's my baby; followed me around the house from the first day we had her. Guess, the poodle, is a little brat. He loves to sit where he knows he's not supposed to (on my grandma's couch for instance) and likes to steal bones/rawhides from Icon when she is not looking. It's sooo cute when they play together. They love to chase eachother around the house and Guess gets Icon to "talk." I love both of them.

Silken Windhounds come in any color or combination of colors that the Borzoi does, including....

black & white

light brindle

dark brindle

spotted

red

These are just a few Silken Windhounds I've met in-person and personally took photos of. There are also black & tan ones, tri-color ones, ect. Basically any color you've seen others sighthounds come in, these guys do too:~) Long-haired Whippets were used to create Silken Windhounds, but they are now a taller & heavier breed than Whippets. The intended look is more like a small Borzoi rather than a Whippet. Look out in 2010 because Silken Windhounds will be eligible for AKC-woohoo!

I have a Boxer/Staffy mix, and I also have is Wirehaired Pointing Griffons

I know this is sort of an old post, but I just wanted to say that I think Silkies are so pretty smile.gif

Sighthounds are my "thing", there is something about them that I love.

So did you ever get yours "EnchantedGypsy"?

Their names are Roxie and Sadie! smile.gif They are mostly red with black trimming their ears. They have a little blonde, and black in their undercoats. Is that called "brindle"? Right now I have 2 miniature schnauzers, both rescues.

One is a little girl named Kyra. She was abused when I got her, afraid to let you pet her. Now she is the queen of the house. Kyra is 10, I have had her since she was 4.

The other is a little boy named Maxie. he was found as a stray. He was only a puppy when I got him. He suffers from seizures. I have had him 2 years.

I found both dogs on Petfinder.

They are both spoiled to death, but thats ok.
