Full Version: What can we do?

I keep hearing on different websites that this might be the last season of The Dead Zone. They say the actors aren't on contract and they are finding new jobs. Is this true?

Is there anything we can do to save the show? I mean beside watching it, which I always do with my family. I hate to see my favorite show gone. It is the only show I have watch every episode from the beginning.

Well, one thing they said that we can do is write in letters. Lots of them. I was talkin' to a fellow forumer not long ago and we could also cook up a little something special to send along with a letter. Something that would symbolize Johnny or the show. Something that gets attention.

Also, I saw off of one show there is something called "onlinepetition" where people can sign a petition to not end a show. I think one is on there for a Canadian show called "The Collector". I found it by accident when websurfing.

We could borrow a tactic off of the Forever Knight crowd too, but that would be if we get the bad news after season 5 is over. It would take a bit of organizing too.

Thank you for the great ideas !! I will write some letters. Maybe we all should work together and do some of these things. I really hate to see it gone.

As the admin has stated in the past. The best way the TDZ returns for season 6 is only if the ratings are really good. So, lets get people watching the show and remind people that show is coming back. It seems like the casual viewer would just forget about the show after such a long break.
brattytxn
Well, maybe some letter writing wouldn't hurt either. DZ's numbers have always been rather solid, so I don't know if it's really ratings. I'd like to know how high they'd have to be. Is "steady" even enough. Big jump? Little jump?

But yes, promoting the heck out of it everywhere is a good idea to begin with. But, Mr. USA Network director, giving DZ back it's original time slot instead of 2 AM would help people know it is even a show on this network!! Especially if you want to give a fair chance because its Sweeps month in May! It is rated one of the top ten original shows on cable!

This is DZ's schedule for May:

MAY 02 03:00 AM THE DEAD ZONE THE LAST GOODBYE
MAY 09 01:00 AM THE DEAD ZONE GRAINS OF SAND
MAY 16 01:00 AM THE DEAD ZONE VANGUARD
MAY 23 01:00 AM THE DEAD ZONE BABBLE ON
MAY 30 01:00 AM THE DEAD ZONE COMING HOME

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that I sat in on an "upfront" presentation by USA Network today. They're selling the 06-07 broadcast year, which starts in September 2006, which would be Season 6 of DZ starting in June 2007. Dead Zone is still very much being promoted as one of their strongest shows, regularly winning its time slot, entering its fifth season, etc, with "new episodes in Q2 2007." So while this is by no means any kind of guarantee, especially given what we know about the contract situation, USA has definitely not given up on the show.

Wow! Thanks, NEFan! That's some of the best news we've heard in awhile! Very encouraging and hopeful!! Thanks for the info!

Yes that was fantastic news to find out that the network hasn't given up on it. So lets just keep watching people. That's the key to watch

The admin also said, these internet polls we went to, won`t help much if ever.
But did you noticed? There have been much more guests resp. "anonymous users" since TDZ obtained two good results. Maybe some of these guys just remembered the show or even noticed its existence for the first time and will watch? Polls might help, even if the network doesn`t care about them.
Are there more of these in the web?

But then again, they attract trolls, too.

These ups and downs are driving me nuts. I can only guess how pesky this must be for the Dead Zone team.

Isn`t NBC the problem or did I get something wrong?

From Kurt Iverson`s Blog :

He tells me that he just had lunch with one of the myriad of finance people that have been filling up Mike's network. But this one was a friend/acquaintance...

I'm actually not privy to our ratings thresholds, but if last year's ratings caused these cancellation rumors, it stands to reason that they would need to go up this year.

Reading Iverson's blog leads me to believe that AMH is heavily involved with other projects. Even if the network DOES want to renew the show for another season, who knows for sure whether AMH and the rest of the cast are still up for it?
brattytxn
I don't think it was so much the ratings rumors as it was the news of the actors not getting contract renewal and some going on to other projects. That was what TV Guide was hinting at and it went from there. Some speculated about NBC and such. Then there was talk of wanting series that gets brew-ha-ha that "4400" got. Actually the "4400" is based on "saving" the world too, isn'it? Just with humans and maybe aliens but there is suspicion that it is really people from the future figuring out who the ones with influence are and change them in some way. Sort of an intricate pattern set in motion?

That's kind of like the DZ if FJ is anything to show. Or at least John's powers because he changes things as they happen by seeing the future...or getting information from someone in the future. That's why I'd like to see the Amrageddon arc get a push via a marathon. It was the highlight of King's book for the second part of it anyway. It also seemed to be the reason that John acquired his gift if they want to bring in metaphysical elements.

But you know, come to think of it, DZ's numbers hold steady despite the lousy time periods and no marathon AND not having as much need to advertise. Now what does that say to us? This show's ratings have increased a bit over the years and has been rock solid.
brattytxn
Well, part of the rumor mill included that should the show be renewed, AMH gets a sweet deal in some way, implying it'd be worth his while to show up. The blog hinted that AMH was busy with this project and maybe some in the works, but with the long stretches between seasons, he'd be able to pick things up again or at least work around shooting schedules.

I agree... Online petitions are mostly worthless as are "Save My Show" type polls. Actual TV ratings are the best way to show your support for the show as the Admin suggested.

However, brattytxn suggested the best secondary way to show support for the show. The best example is the campaign that fans of the WBs Charmed launched when the WB was still undecided on renewing the show for another (final) season. The good people over at the thecharmedones.com put up the corporate mailing address for the WBs VP.. David.. (Something, can't remember) and suggest fans send a postcard or letter with a birthday candle attached to it (they called the campaign "Spell Casting"). I'm not sure how many letters the WB got because of this campaign, but the show did get another season.

I think doing something the like would be a good way to get our message through to that the show has an extremely loyal following even if it may not be the largest.

This may be the only way, beside Online polls, to suport The Dead Zone for everyone who`s not able to raise the ratings by watching the show on USA, too!
Be it because USA is cable TV or because fans live in another country.
I don`t really know about the rest of the world, but there are some DZ forums and webpages here and I`m sure people are willing to help, if they get the chance to.

Isn`t TDZ successful in Australia and South America, too?
