I believe Matt Mason to be the most original vocalist on the show this season. His voice and music style is AWESOME. He isn't like any other singer, which the others finalist are all the same to me. They look and have the same sound as the rest. I believe Matt to be successful no matter where this show goes. He seems so genuine and confident and he doesn't act it or probably doesn't even know it. Chris Young seems to think his stuff doesn't stink.. But to be honest, he is average. There isn't anything that seperates him from other singers. Matt is what I like to see, He brings the old country back with his sexy appeal.

arrogant to me. I have tried to like him because his voice is wonderful. But I can not get past the arrogance it just bugs me. If a season showbiz vet like Wynonna asks you a ?? don't you think you should answer it instead of just making some snide comment? I think Chris Young is a extremely genuine nice person. You can tell by reading the stories of him staying until the lights are turned off to sign autographs.

Umm arrogant, are you blind or are you just one of those blind Chris Young fans who can't help but put other contestants down to make your favorites look better? I've tried to be nice and for the most part I have but when you come on Matt's board and bash him it's gone a little too far. I do not like to frequent the NS general board because I like to avoid the conflict but you've made that impossible. Matt doesn't come off arrogant when he makes those comments, he's telling you like it is. He's not going to conform, why should he? Why should he make excuses for the type of music that he likes to sing? I think he's had it with people trying to change him and the songs he sings. You are mistaking arrogance for quite confidence, there's a difference. And for the record Matt stayed after his concert until the last autograph was signed so I guess he and Chris Young have a few things in common, they are both talented, humble, and have a deep appreciation for their fans. Funny how that works, I may would love for Matt to win this competition but I would never bash any of the other contestants, it's too bad more people aren't like that

Wow, I can't believe that someone thinks that Matt???!!!! is arrogant?? That shocks me. Just because he plays and sings what he wants doesn't make him arrogant, it just proves that he knows who he is and doens't need to search to find his place he has one. He is absolutely wonderful. I love him and I can't wait until his first cd comes out.

I did not come here to bash him. In fact I think his voice is amazing. He is supremely talented. I put him in the top two (with Chris) but I was just stating that I think he needs to make himself more likeable to the fans. Maybe I came off too harsh, that is not what I meant it to be, but as from watching past NS shows, look for example at Brad Cotter and George Canyon, both amazing talents, George Canyon was personable and although he hasn't released things in the states, he is winning award after award in Canada. But can we say Brad Cotter who? He never connected. I understand Matt Mason has confidence, which he should, but the masses won't buy your records if you don't give them some sort of friendliness. It was not a cut to him, I apologize if you took it to mean it that way.
And by the way, if Chris was not in this contest, I would be sending my vote to Matt. I just have a hard time with it because I always feel like he doesn't come off like he cares. Just my opinion. Hopefully he will throw the crowds a smile, maybe he's just shy.

As far as being likable to the fans, I think it depends on what you are looking for in a performer. He's been compared time and again to Johnny Cash who was seen in the same light as Matt. I've read posts from other posters who say he doesn't connect with his audience and they may speak for themselves but they absolutely do not speak for everyone. He's a very personable performer, he lives what he writes, he lives what he sings and to me that is a connection. But you are right on one thing, he has admitted that he is a shy person. I have a feeling that when he does make it big, getting an interview with Matt will be rare because that's how it is with George Strait, who btw has also admittd to being painfully shy, until you get them on stage, where they come alive. And from what I understand his fanbase is as big as Chris Young's fanbase which means I think he has connected with enough people to make it big.
BTW, I didn't mean to come off so harsh, I'm just trying to get my point across. He's not arrogant, I have first hand knowledge of that

I have tried not to be biased but now I have to speak out. I know Matt personally and have for several year. He dated one of my daughters in High School and I can say that he is one of the most humble guys I know. arrogant.....not in the least. He has always sang and wrote in a style of his own and has stayed away from the path of what others thinks he should do. He just happens to be very blest with a talent that has him on the road to his life long dream.
Best of luck Matt

well I think it's good that people have come to stick up for him. Like I said I wasn't trying to bash him, I just want him to be able to connect with the audience. I agree completely with him being compared to Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings. He has amazing song choices that I love. In fact I am so glad that NS has seen old country from their top 3 performers this year. It is a breath of fresh air to not see all of the new stuff being sung to death. But there is a big difference in him and George Strait, even though George is extremely shy, he still flashes that mega watt smile and it connects, sends your heart to your feet. I think Matt Mason is amazing and I will buy his cd, but what about the people that didn't watch the show and just see a video or him on a awards show, will they? If he doesn't connect they won't. I am not saying he won't, I truly hope he does, I wish him all the best. I just think that sometimes you have to step out of your box of comfort (humbleness, whatever) to sell yourself. If you don't sell yourself, you won't go anywhere. But again, just my opinion.
