By your standards, yes? wink.gif I don't see the problem, as long as we're not causing any trouble.

Of course you don't see a problem with it...at least one of them was your thread...and that is fine...it is your opinion...and everyone knows the saying about opinions... wink.gif

But the other ones... they weren't mine. And I saw no problem with them, either. And of course, we're both entitled to our own opinions... wink.gif

I'm not one to argue... (Wait, never mind. Of course I am.) But the three 'duplicate threads' you've mentioned have yet to be locked by an admin. And it's been about 4 days. So, maybe they're not as 'duplicate' as you thought they were? wink.gif

I know you mean well sweetie but the problem with double posting is that the other threads below it get pushed down and even bumped into the next page. It's basic logic. If you have one thread about a certain episode then why make another about the same thing? It doesn't make sense and it causes clutter. That's all Irisheyes is letting you know. It's pointless to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich after only eating half. You eat the rest right? You wouldn't go and make another after a few bites? The same applies. Why waste the space on the board when it can be avoided?

I liked your sandwich metaphor/example. It made me hungry! And I'm well aware of what Irisheyes is saying, and I'm inclined to agree with her/him (sorry, don't know your gender!) if it were the exact same topic twice, or three times over. But we're talking about a few different factors that might skew our argument. Which isn't really an argument, we're just dicussing. Of course, if they are exactly the same, what's the point? But if they are even the tad bit different... that tiny difference may actually be more practical. And it's the internet. We're not wasting space, are we? If the thread dies, it dies. No harm done.

You still are not understanding the point so maybe I should word it differently.

Let's say there is a thread called "Mariska's hair." If you make a thread called "Mariska colors her hair" then that is duplicating. There is already a thread about Mariska's hair, whether the topic contains a change, it's still about Mariska's hair.

Plus...duplicating a thread is against the rules of the board. Whether you like it or not, you or anyone else is not exempt from those rules. Just follow them and everyone will be happy. Let's not rock the boat. wink.gif

I do understand the point that you're making. I think maybe it's the other way around; you're not understand what I'm saying. I wasn't talking about so insignificant of a change as what you're talking about, either.

I'm also well aware that I'm not exempt from the rules. No one is, and I'm not saying they should be. I'm just discussing another point; which is that certain changes to a topic can rip off the label of 'duplicate thread'. That's all. But we've exhausted this, and I've yet to see the threads in question to be taken down, so I assume that speaks for itself. wink.gif I respect what you're saying, but can we agree to disagree, and drop it? I'd rather talk about SVU than duplicate threads. tongue.gif And I'm sure you would, too.

Hello. Welcome to USA Network's SVU message board. We're a crazy bunch of people and always looking to add a few more. Based on many discussions on the board, here are a few guidelines, rules of etiquette and suggestions for newbies and anyone else in need of a refresher course.

1) Don't type in all caps. It's considered yelling and you can be seen as rude. You have a shift button on you keyboard, please use it.

2) Punctuation, grammar, and spelling (your English teacher would love to know you learned to use them). Please remember that English is not the native language for many of our posters. Using netspeak or not using punctuation, capital letters, grammar, etc, can make your posts difficult to understand. Also remember that not everyone here is under the age of 20 so the netspeak looks a lot like gibberish to us and makes some posts more than difficult to read.

3) Duplicate threads. Check the entire front page to see if there's already a thread started about what you want to discuss. If you can't find one, then there's a search feature at the bottom of the main page. It's a pretty good bet that if you want to discuss a particular topic, it's already got at least one thread dedicated to it.

The Admin of USA has stated that duplicate threads will be locked. So to avoid aggrevation to yourself and others, please do a check first. Then, if your topic doesn't appear, feel free to start a new one.

4) Remember that we can't see facial expressions, hear vocal intonations or hear the laughter that someone may have been experiencing when they wrote you a reply. This means that sometimes something you might find offensive wasn't intended that way by the poster. If you find something they said to be offensive, please ask for clarification before assuming they meant to be mean. If you don't feel comfortable posting your question to the board, then send the poster a PM (click their name, then click "private message"). Don't just assume they were trying to be mean and get in their face in return. That's how board wars get started.

5) Speaking of board wars. Please don't bring difficulties on other boards here. If you're having issues with another board, deal with it there. Don't post a link to their board here and ask people to go over and read/respond/help. It'll only get ugly and I dare to say, none of us want that.

6) Remember the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Which, in plain speak means: Be nice, play well and if you're feeling grumpy or angsty, go sit in a corner until you're able to play well with others. We all have feelings and can be hurt rather easily if poked hard enough. Just because we can't see each other doesn't mean the words can't hurt.

'Kay?

If anyone has anything else to add, please feel free. This isn't anything official, just my take on things after 7 years of moderating boards and chatrooms. I hope it didn't offend anyone.

Okay, so I am new to all of this. I really don't know what you guys are talking about with the thread titles and everything. If I could get help that would be great, thanks. Another thing does anyone know if there are going to be any new expisodes of Law & Order SVU or is it all just going to be reruns? Thanks again.

I think I can help a little...Thread titles are what the different threads are all about...like the E/O thread has people who ship E/O or the OT thread is for everything not SVU...it is pretty simple once you get the hang of it...All we ask is that you do a search before you start a new topic to make sure that one isn't already started...I hope that helps...

And SVU will be in reruns until September...

Enjoy posting
