Hey all!
Just wanted to drop in and letcha know i volunteered to help out at the AWW (All Weapons Weekend) Combat Shooting Competition (Championships)
i worked the STATs on the teams, and got to fire the course (which is 6 stages/ranges long) twice with 2 different teams. i was the M203 shooter. In layman terms i was considered the Grenadier. (if you watch black hawk down-Ewan Mcgregor carries the weapon i was assigned.)
i did you guys proud. the first team i shot with ended up dominating the competition-coming in first, and despite it being a pickup team (which would normally disqualify a team)-we won, and are being given our 'Governors Dozen Marksman' patches to put on our BDU's.
My second team dominated stage 4. the only range that didn't involve any weapons.(we thought that was pretty funny) It was the Armor/Air Identification stage, and for that we each recieved a plaque-and will be presenting another plaque to our 1st Sgt this weekend (its a drill weekend) we're presenting it to our 1st sgt becuase our CO was Not entirely too thrilled that we decided to volunteer and help out with the competition.
I walked away with people calling me "203" and "Gonzo"...i ended up beating the best M203 shooter in the entire state of Az, so..yeah...i got pretty lucky. he walked up to me towards the end and we talked and had a good time, and he didn't seem too upset that i beat him-which i was glad for becuase besides being the lowest ranking person there-i didn't want to overstep my bounds or my welcome with anyone. i have some video and some pictures.
overall-everything was a great experience. we had brand new M240s that we took out of the wrappers and boxes to shoot-and man! what a beautiful weapon...but anyway...i better get going to work.
more later if you want it!
take care!
