Here's a dumb question: Did Purdy actually marry Vera Smith?
I thought he didn't but on DOS's "five question" video he said that Purdy did marry Vera.
I thought Johnny once said that Gene had asked her several times but she never married him. Gene said something like she loved him in her own way? The only place I can remember them "married" was in "Netherworld" which wasn't reality but John's mind while unconscious.

I haven't seen the "five question video," but the rest sounds accurate to me. If Purdy and Gene were married, I don't think Johnny knows about it.

In rewatching The House this afternoon I came across the answer to this question. I saw DOS five questions video but I think he was mistaken when he said that purdy married Vera. In the party scene in The House John tells Bruce that "She never married him, not even after my dad died. I know he asked her more than once."
Now like Herb's 'death, which is implied as happening when John was seven in Babble On and The House, but implied later in life in the episode Descent, there may be inconsistencies regarding Purdy and Vera. I'm inclinded to think that Purdy remained a dear friend to the day Vera killed herself but that he never actually lived with or married her. She did 'love him in her own way' as Purdy tells John in The House. I'm guessing that Herb was the love of her life however and that nothing was quite the same for Vera after she had him committed.

There was also a question about the pinky ring that Purdy wore. I can't remember if that answer was in conjunction about the marrying Vera Smith statement. But, what if the storyline later comes up that Purdy did marry Vera when she was becoming very depressed. If Gene married her, he would have the legal authority over everything since he is her husband. Could that pinky ring maybe some day turn out to be a wedding ring? Just speculating.

I suppose the ring could mean something in the future. I think Purdy gained control over everything through Vera's Will. I think she did love him in her own way as he tells John in The House. But that was not the same kind of love she had for Herb and I think that difference is what prevented her from taking the final step and actually marrying him.

In my opinion i thought that would be cool. I always wanted Purdy to turn out being John's Stepfather in ways i wanted him to turn out to be his father but i think they have totally 86 that idea but yea it would be cool in my opinion.
