Can anyone tell me what city the pilot episode was filmed in (besides SF)? My landlords told me about a show whose pilot episode was filmed in the house, but they couldn't remember the name. After mentioning part of the premise to someone (detective whose pet case is the homicide of his wife), they said that it might be Monk. I've never actually watched an episode of the show, so I don't know if they're right. I tried to find some pictures on the web to see if his house looks like mine, but I couldn't find any good ones of the house. I'm quite sure that they recreated the inside of the house on a set somewhere. Can anyone help?

Do you live in Vancouver? That's where most of the pilot was shot.

No, I actually live near San Francisco. Isn't Monk supposed to be set there? I've never been to Vancouver, but I can't imagine there's another city that could pass for San Francisco, with its steep streets and distinct architecture. They must have still done outside shots in SF, so perhaps the home shots were in the area as well. Anyway, the producers of the aforementioned as-of-yet-unknown show fixed up the detached garage to be the room where the main character kept all of the evidence for his wife's homicide. Does this sound familiar from the pilot of Monk? Maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree...

Vancouver, Toronto, and L.A. have all stood in for San Francisco in Monk. The exteriors of Monk's apartment house were shot in San Francisco at the corner of Taylor and Broadway. Monk does not have a garage. You might be thinking of The Evidence, a new network show shot in San Francisco which also has a Detective whose wife's murder is unsolved. Maybe he has a garage.

Hm, maybe. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find much information on that show. I'll keep looking, though.
Have you seen the Monk pilot? Are you sure that the garage wasn't just excluded from the rest of the series? I did find a photo of one of the characters sitting on a kitchen counter that looked suspiciously similar to my landlord's.

Hey, I think you just might be right. Thanks for that! I just found this in a (not so good) review of The Evidence:
"...Sean is haunted by the unsolved murder of his own wife. Despite a year of investigation, all he has to show for the effort is a garage full of pictures and notes about the crime..."
