I think she was nervous at first and it showed in her voice...she had a bit of a weak start at the very beginning of the song, but then she warmed up and kicked butt! I thought she totally rocked and if she were still on the show, she would be my second favorite female. I was bummed to see her go and think that Nicole had the worst performance out of the females and ALL of the finalists tonight. She should have been the one to go and sounded off-key throughout most of her song. I don't understand why they let Jewels go! I thought she would make it a lot farther darn it. I see the talent and she knows how to entertain a crowd. I think she will make it, even though she didn't make it past tonight. Have faith and keep her in your prayers...her talent will take her far!

I do agree with you on the beginning of her song and her getting better the rest of the way. I've heard her do it so well so many times that we were more in shock hearing her name be the 1st one picked!! I mean, she was totally in the top 4 tonight!!! You're right, God definetely has another plan for our Jewels.

I have to agree with you all on this one! I screamed at my tv in shock! I totally did not see that one coming!
Big and Rich were quite harsh when it came to Jewels tonight. Nothing they had to say was nice.
1. Saying she looked like the Montgomery guy with long hair. How rude! especially after they drooled over all the other girl contestants all night. They said how "hot" the other girls looked. GEEEZZZ! I guess Jewels should have shown some more skin and maybe then they would have taken more notice.
2. "not believeable" WHAT? Would it had been more believeable if she had stood there lifeless on the stage like so many other contestants did tonight. It should be about the entire performance! And she definitely brought it tonight!
3. "tone it down" Again I after respond with a WHAT? This coming from the biggest circus act in country music today! LOL!
Well it's there loss that's for sure!

That was a shocker that they eliminated Jewels on the first episode. I thought she did a awesome job. I still think you should have stayed and someone else should have been voted off.

I have seen Jewels perform many times. She opens for all the big name stars that come through the Saddle Rack in Ca.
I went online to vote but it said she was voted off. I watched all the videos of the other singer's. Jewels voice is different as she has more of a rasp which is very character making. Her pitch is always on. The other girls sound so canned like Celine Dion type clarity, faith hillish, nashville I hear has always thought they know what they are doing, and a million talented wannabes sit it their garages. Perserverance is what distinguishes. Big and Rich don't sing country, they are wannabe rockstars with twang. The Rolling Stones ARE rockstars. While Nashville can make anyone sell a million, it doesn't matter what an opinion of a fan is. The radio stations are incorporated mass media giants that tweak everything. It is a music business. Jewels is the music. My girlfriend and I were tripping, but come on Josh Gracin is a joke. Should have figured they would vote off the one most likely to take away album sales from them or their people.. Gretchen Wilson... big and rich and flava flav. Its funny because in nashville they tell what and how to sing, what to wear and to change your name.. and country radio is filled with stupid ballads and brent mason fills (brent is bad a## though) Jewels still get to rock the Saddle Rack for hundreds and hundreds of people every week open for Big Names like the show in Feb. with Dwight Y. The judges aren't telling the all because we all only know the half. Even if the nation would voted her off it doesn't matter. If you own all your music and sell just ten thousand a year minus your production you can easily make a darn good living doing what you love. One great song, one good singer, one great producer, dropped at the right time in the right hands makes some that has been working all their life an overnight star. When shooting for the stars, aim high and don't shoot your eyes out. If once you don't succeed try try again... If anything Jewels beat out about 20000 singers, and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger or at least a better writer, with more to write about. I can't say bummer... she did make it!!!!!

Get real! BIG & RICH are the best guest judges that I have ever seen! Straight forward and telling the truth, which is the reason why you folks don't like them! Well to bad - Jewel is gone and I believe the judges made the perfect decision. Jewel's stage presence was unbelievably, unbelievable and as fake as it can be!

Did you know all thr lyrics to Big & Rich songs are written by an autistic 12 year old? I'm sorry I shouldn't make fun of the handicapped.

It's not so much I was surprised or upset at Jewels going but it was what Big and Rich said that made me mad. They told her to tone it down a bit...this is from the most non-country band around with a token little person in their group and "Mr. Big" with his top hat...that's a pot calling the kettle black. Tone it down? And if they don't replace Anastasia Brown next year I don't know if I can continue to watch it...what a nasty woman. If she had an orginial thought and response I think my ears would bleed.

I must agree early in her song she was a little off but, she rocked the rest of it and her on stage presence for over came the slow start. I turned to my son and said she is my favorite female performer and I can’t wait to see her and the hot and very talented Gretchen Wilson together on stage.

Nope your wrong...I also watch American Idol and I love Simon Cowell. I'm just glad they have different guest judges each week. Singers don't necessarily know what is the best. Phil Vasser likes everybody, he's the Nashville Star equivalent of Idol's Paula Abdul.

I don't believe Nicole was the worst last night. I believe that Monique was. I liked her but last night she cracked under pressure. I think Jewels sang good but that her stage presents was way too much and that may have turned the judges off.

Actually....the reason the "Answer" was posted on web site when Californians went to "vote" is that the East Coast show aired and finished by 8 pm PST. How does this allow any of Jewels' fans to vote in except for her Nashville fans, when the whole Saddlerack didn't get to see her perform until AFTER she was voted off???
My other Q's:
-Several of the guys performing were VERY "stiff" on stage and had little stage presence (A very important part of being a performer!) and were told as much by the judges....
I can't believe 4 guys that sounded like CLONES and didn't move during their whole performance were picked??
-Monique, although great voice, I agree sounded wayyy better for American Idol, was she country at allll?? And she didn't really have much "energy" on stage....just sorta stood there. I think it would of been controversial to vote her off right away though...bad for ratings ue to they need to have one girl that isn't picked just for her looks but they will definitely vote her off soon ... just a thought.
-Is it just me, or did the judges keep emphasizing the other girls' looks rather than performance?? This is my never-ending Q I always have, do you have to be a "model" to be a female performer?
-The girl from Napa, I agree that song choice was ridiculous! Kinda cool that it showed she could be versatile but she should of maybe shown she could be versatile AFTER she intro'ed herself to the crowd with her first impression??
-Personally, I think Jewels did VERY GOOD!! I think she by FAR had the best stage persence and interaction with the audience, which she definitely has tons of practice woth 3 nights per week and opening for tons of bay area concerts. She picked a difficult song to start with, although she does this one for us a lot at the Saddlerack, and she ROCKED it by the end AND was entertaining!! Imagine that, working the crowd!!??? I agree, I can't believe Big and Rich would tell Jewels to "tone it down"???!!! What the hell?? The pot calling the kettle black??!! And she has even opened for them before!!!!
-OK, sorry, like to critique performances.....somewhat of a local band roadie as I follow several local bands around = )
And I think it sucks that california didn't get a vote??!! What the heck???

I have to say I agree and disagree with some of you... although I dont think Jewels was the best performer of the night, I thought for sure that it was going to be Nicole going home last night... I think Jewels has potential... I was sorry to see her go the first night..

I am not sure what you mean by this... All states are given the chance to vote after the show airs in your time zone.. The fact that Jewles was voted off was by the judges only... had nothing to do with when the show aired or voting by the studio or at home audience. I can imagine how upset you all are, I know how I would feel if it had been my fav.. Although there is no doubt that Jewels time will come! She will show the world one day what she has to offer!

Look she's got a marginal voice and isn't all that hawt. In fact she's got a gut - maybe should back away from the beer at the saddle rack. The Rack would be well served to get a fresh house band anyhow. I'm guessing you Jewels supporters are Saddlerack homers anyhow. The first 3 acts and the long hair dude are the bomb. Big and Rich were being nice IMO.

Actually, I live in Georgia and this past show was the first time I had ever heard of or seen Jewels perform. She's definitely made a fan of me. I love that raspy blues/country vocal that she projects. She went on that stage and gave a genuine performance and showed she could get up there and have a great time. I don't know what the judges were saying when they were telling her she was fake. That's ridiculous. Her attitude was very true to me. She was being herself and that, to me, is brave.
A gut? I suppose that in order to be a female recording artist that you have to look like a Barbie Doll these days. It's a shame. I guess Aretha can go home now. Jewels is a REAL woman. She doesn't look like she needs a sandwich. I don't think her "gut" has anything to do with her talent.
Jewels, girl, you rocked. If you ever feel the need to come to Atlanta, I have a group here that will definitely come out to see you. You have so much more going for you than this show...the best is yet to come.

Barbie doll or not, one just can not expect to go very far being out of shape and trying to make it in the entertainment business. Ask Rubin Studdard...society is very very vain...that's the honest truth.

Wow.. when did a size 4 become overweight? Thats about 8 sizes smaller than the average american women. She's not a stick like most stars these days, but no means is she fat or even chubby. Its refreshing to see someone who doesn't look like they are about to blow away in the wind.

Answer: Monique is a very beautiful woman. She may not be skin and bones but she is beautiful inside and out. And, Monique has won many awards for her Country Music performances, including the North American Country Music Association award for Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year - traditional Country and entertainer of the year - traditional Country. So YES she has been and is Country. You all take the lead of the judges too much.

I just don't understand how Jewels get an opportunity of a lifetime then doesn't show up in shape. If you knew her from the Saddlerack like I do you would understand how she's thinking. Sometimes you gotta call it like you see it. Having all these Jewels annd Rack die hards bashing Big and Rich only goes to prove you all need to learn what talent is when you see it. B-n-R are some of the most talented folks in all of Nashville...you bash me for being rude but not the folks ripping B-n-R, isn't that hypicritical?

No ones bashing your for not liking Jewels. You have the right to your own opinion of her just like they have the right to think what they want about Big and Rich.
What people are commenting on is the fact that you called a 125 pd. size 4 woman overweight and out of shape. Thats a little harsh. Personally I think its refreshing to see a couple of talented women like Monique and Jewels who are happy with what God gave them, and who don't feel the need to starve themselves the the point they look like aliens.

sorry, my bad, I figured she was closer to 150lbs - 125 is an ideal weight for a female performer IMO. I'm guessing that's what the former beauty pagent contestant weighs. I have a hard time believing that there's any reason to bash B-n-R over this.
